PHILANTHROPY

GiveAPushWeekend

AnnualTotalDonatedtoPUSHAmerica:

On February 19 through the 21, Theta Sigma teamed up with PUSH America for the third consecutive year to help Camp Harmon. Camp Harmon is a campground for disabled children and adolescents located in Boulder Creek, California. This year, brothers Jaime Varela, Brent Freeman, Anthony Samperio, Ryan Kennedy, David Lopez, Bryan Garcia, Brandon Bell, and Reed Gabrielson attended GAP weekend. Our team of dedicated young men built three stables for a lamb, pig, a goat and a structure for storing hay. They also participated in an empathy dinner, which gave brothers a glimpse of the struggles people with disabilities face when simply eating. As a standing tradition at Camp Harmon, Gabrielson was announced the “top builder” of the year.

The Climb to the Top

Joey Buss, 20, took center stage at Alpha Phi’s ninth annual Mr. Heartthrob competition. The male pageantry, which was held in Wilson High School on February 25, was put on to benefit Women Cardiac Care. The event consisted of a choreographed group dance, question and answer time, and individual performances ranging from monologues to solos covering a range of musical artists. Although the contestants were all talented, none shined like Busses’ barbershop arrangement of the classical acapella song “anytime you want me.” Buss, along side his quartet; “The Vagrants” stole the hearts of every woman in the audience and the judges, which ultimately led to his title of Mr. Heartthrob 2010. This victory is a milestone for Pi Kappa Phi since Sigma Alpha Epsilon previously dominated the title for the past five years.

SCHOLARSHIP

President and Dean Scholars

Order of Omega was founded at the University of Miami in fall of 1959 by a group of outstanding fraternity men, who felt that individuals in the Greek community should be recognized for their academic excellence to the fraternity system and the university. The purpose of this society is to recognize members of the Greek community who have attained high standards in academics and involvement in the Greek community. In order to qualify, members must at least be in their third year at CSULB with 60 or more graded course units.

Theta Sigma is pleased to have seven brothers be inducted into Order of Omega this year.

These seven men are the epitome of brothers who bring credit to the fraternity by striving to

attain the highest possible standards of scholarship.

InterFraternity Council SPRING RECRUITMENT Richard Jasminski, vice president, took recruitment to a new level for Theta Sigma. He

instilled a new rush week schedule that included a mini-golf course inside the fraternity house and a batting cage event. Jasminski also kept the old tradition alive at Big Daddy Cigar Shop. This semester Theta

Sigma was able to recruit the most men in IFC with 16 new associate members. The second highest fraternity recruited eight members.
