Transcript of The Peaks · 05/05/2020 · ver Canucks are my favorite team. The Peaks is a great Strata, and I...
A new Strata Board has been assembled as of
April 22, 2020.
Your new Board of Directors are:
Board President: David Bailey
Going into my second
year on the Strata
board, I find myself in
the Strata President
role. My initial thought
when I joined the
board last year was to
assist on various pro-
jects and be low profile, but here I am... The
current board members bring a good mix of
knowledge and experience, and I look forward
to working with them in the coming year.
Kim and I try to spend as many weekends and
holidays in the valley as possible. We like to
think we work in Calgary but live in Radi-
um. We spend our time in the summer golfing
or kayaking on Windermere Lake, and winters
skiing at Panorama or snowshoeing on the
trails in the area. When we drive through the
gap in the mountain created by Sinclair creek,
the stress just evaporates, as the sign says
when entering Radium “The mountains bring
peace to the people”. We have two children
(should say adults), our daughter also enjoys
her trips to the valley with us or with friends,
and our son lives in Toronto.
We have owned our place at the Peaks for
almost 4 years and our only regret was not
getting a place here sooner. I am originally from
B.C. growing up just outside of Penticton, so
the valley feels very familiar in many ways to
the Okanagan Valley. So yes, the Vancou-
ver Canucks are my favorite team.
The Peaks is a great Strata, and I will do
my best to make it a place all owners want
to call home.
Board Vice President: Darwin Baker
I am pleased to
be serving a
second term on
the Strata
Board. Kathy
and I are from
the beautiful
city of Saskatoon. When we meet people
in the valley and we tell them where we
are from the next question is always
“Wow how long does it take to get
here?”, well it is 866 km and it takes up
about 8 ½ - 9 hours. But as everyone
knows once you are here it is worth the
drive. We have 2 wonderful daughters and
a son-in-law (he’s ok too). We bought at
the Peaks in the fall of 2017 and have nev-
er for a moment regretted it, the Peaks is
a wonderful place and the quiet small-
town vibe of Radium is a welcome change
from the hoards of tourists in Banff and
Jasper. With access to everything we
could want for outdoor enjoyment, we
love to kayak the surrounding lakes and
enjoy cruising down the river from Inver-
mere to Radium. The hiking is endless, golf
courses are numerous and when we are
done our day we can have an evening soak
in the outdoor hot tub and maybe meet
some of our neighbors.

Board Members Continued Serving on the board is an honor and I
have learned a lot about what it takes to
run this Community we call the Peaks - we
really are all in it together. It is new to me
to be in a condo environment and one
thing you can’t deny is it is the people that
help make it a great place to be. We have
an experienced board, we are a diverse
group and most importantly we all really
care about our home, The Peaks.
Board Treasurer: Linda Nickerson
Linda Nickerson is
on the board for
the second year as
Treasurer. She and
her husband Doug
are original owners
in the Willow. Both
are retired and
Linda worked at Cargill Meat Solutions for
over 24 years in financial roles with the
last 8+ as the facility controller. Linda and
Doug reside fulltime in Okotoks, Alberta
near most of their family. Combined, they
have 5 grown children and 11 grandchil-
dren. They love the outdoors enjoying,
skiing, hiking, cycling, canoeing and camping
and whatever the grandchildren want to
do. They like to travel and have travelled a
lot since retirement. The Valley is a won-
derful home away from home that they
enjoy with family and friends.
Board Maintenance Committee
Liaison: Patrick Fitzgerald
My wife and I have
been bringing our
daughters out to
the valley every
summer for over
twenty years,
and Heather has
always said "we
must buy a property of our own". We
finally did four years ago and we are so
happy with our decision to own at The
Peaks. We have met so many lovely people
in Radium, who we now consider our dear
friends. We love the valley and plan on
retiring in here in the coming years as this
has become our second home.
Board Maintenance Committee
Laison: Wayne Loustel
It is my fourth year on
the board. I am retired
and married for 46
years with two chil-
dren. I have been an
owner at the Peaks
since the Birch was
built. I like to garden and I love old cars
and trucks. I help out with maintenance on
the buildings. I do not live there full time.
We also have property in Edgewater
where we spend some weekends in the
summer. Being on the board is very in-
formative. I learn a lot every year.
Board Member for Special Projects:
Joanne Bucklee
I moved to Radium in 2014 with my
Westie, Lachie. Since then we’ve been
kayaking, hiking, golfing, reading and travel-
ing. I split my time primarily between Cal-
gary and Radium although more and more,
Radium is my favourite. I look forward to
being on the board to learn more about
condo management and getting to know
other owners at the Peaks.
Board Secretary: Kelly McGovern
I am happy to be able
to help out again on
the Peaks Board. I was
a Board Secretary for
the 2018-2019 term
and I run our owners’
Facebook page as well.
I am a part-time Peaks resident with a per-
manent home in Airdrie. My husband and I
have owned our unit since June 2014, and
enjoy the outdoor pursuits available to us
in the Radium area. The Peaks is my happy
place.
Thanks for giving me the opportunity to
give back to our community.

The Pool is Closed
Although this is
normally the time
of year when Peaks
staff ready the pool
for summer use,
due to provincial
guidelines, the pool
and amenities build-
ing will remain
closed until further
notice.
You may notice the
pool being filled.
This is to prevent
any damage to the
pool.
If circumstances
change and we are
able to open the
pool for owner use,
you will receive
notification via the
website, email, the
Facebook group
and the newsletter.
Safety Moment: Propane heaters, open fire pits
P A G E 3 O W N E R S ’ N E W S L E T T E R
Reminder that pro-
pane heaters or open
fire pits of any type are
not permitted on the
balconies or Strata
property.
Such items are not
safe for use on the
property and have
caused problems at
The Peaks in previous
years.
Particularly in fire sea-
son, use of these pro-
hibited items can be a
hazard to our sur-
rounding forested are-
as as well.
Also, remember that
propane tanks are not
permitted to
be stored in-
side the build-
ing.
Thank you!
You may notice work getting started on the
Amenities Building roof. Budget approval was
given at the last board meeting for the re-
roofing project to move forward.
Thank you to the Maintenance Committee for
all of their work getting this project organized.
plore enhanced security op-
tions, please let us know via
our email address. We thank
those owners who have al-
ready responded, and will
ensure their voices are heard
in our discussions. If a com-
mittee is struck, it would be
extremely helpful to have 3-
4 owners (in addition to 2
board members) sit on this
committee and help shape its
direction. Many hands make
light work, as they say. If you
would like to join the com-
mittee, please let us know.

There have been several
queries of the board with
respect to enhancing securi-
ty measures at the Peaks
complex. With that purpose
in mind, the Board members
are seeking input on forming
a committee.
