One of the oldest and largest branches of engineering is civil engineering.

Without civil engineers our society would not be the way it is today.

Civil Engineers serve society by designing the built environment

and managing the natural environment. .

They plan, design, construct, operate and maintain civil works like

:highways, water and wastewater systems, tunnels, dams,

buildings, and bridges.

建筑工程 (construction engineering;)土木工程&建筑工程:土木工程师包括建筑、结构、桥梁

、地下等是个很大的概念,可以做更细的分类。在房屋建筑学上他要考虑房屋结构本身和建设地环境、季节变化甚至灾难给房屋带来的不利因素,把房屋设计的坚固、耐久,使居住者、使用者获得安全感;建筑工程师是专门研究房屋建筑学的,因此他要学习一些房屋结构设计的知识,也就是说学习土木(结构)工程师的部分知识外,更多的建筑师所关注的是房屋的功能设计、平面 设计、立面设计、规划设计、建筑群的总体规

划设计等等,他要考虑每座建筑功能不同如用于政治、文化、生产、居住来满足居住者和使用者的需要。他不能把庄严 的

人民大会堂毗连游乐场也不能在大会堂里面安放一处量贩式的KTV。他结合美学原理,表现在满足功能上的设计。

大约公元1200年,专门从事战争用具(破城槌、浮桥、突击塔、石弩等)开

发的人;

16世纪初,制造器械的人;

现在,运用科学、数学和经济学知识满足人类需求的人。

工程师区别于科学家,技术专家的关键在于实用性知识 。
