Teachers' Conference 2010 Dear Principals/ Teachers
It gives us immense pleasure to announce that TeacherSITY, in active partnership with NCERT,CBSE & AWES, is holding a day long conference of school teachers of India. The Teachers' Conference, first ever and of innovative kind, is a well‐designed platform to showcase the practices of teachers, encourage researches by the teachers, empower teachers to realize the theoretical import of their practices, and enable them to emerge as scholars of India. In the rut of routine professional lives, everything teachers do is almost taken for granted. All the instances of teachers' experiments/innovations in the class room, the challenges and constraints that teachers deal with in the school set up, the endeavors and arrangements that the teachers stumble upon to make headways: merit national attention.
As an institution, the Teachers' Conference aims at cultivating a national conscience toward the self‐respect of teachers, by giving their intellectual efforts a platform and audience. It also entails facilitating the teacher‐presenters with necessary mentoring, supervision and necessary reading sources for their researches and development of the research‐papers. However, the Teachers' Conference is not to repeat the shortcomings of trainings and professional development programmes; hence, in this forum teachers speak while the educationists , policy makers, university professors & teacher educators learn. Last, but not the least, that the institution of Teachers' Conference, held‐biannually, offers a structured arrangement for the intellectual enhancement, professional socializing, and felicitation for teachers' scholarship.
The Teachers' Conference 2010 would be attended by the teachers from all over India, as paper‐presenters and as participants of the discourse. We take the pleasure of inviting your teachers to get registered for the conference as paper presenters or as participants. Details of the registration process and the guidelines for paper presenters will be available on our website www.teachersity.org and NCERT's website www.ncert.ac.in on 5th September 2010. Teachers who wish to present papers during the conference would be mentored and helped in preparing their papers by mentors from NCERT & TeacherSITY.
Who Can Participate/Present: The conference is open for all the school teachers of India from any level‐ (PRT,TGT & PGT) to write & present research papers or just participate.
Registration: You can get registered for it on‐line or by sending a printed registration form with the details. Registration form can be downloaded from the websites of NCERT & TeacherSITY. There is no registration fee.
Selection Process Of The Presenters: The teachers applying for presenting a paper would write a short piece on the chosen theme on the space given in the registration form. The write up would be examined by the working committee and the selected presenters would be intimated about it.

Teachers' Conference 2010 13th November 2010
Guidelines for the Mentors & Mentees
The objective of the mentoring process is to instill and invoke a researcher in the teacher, who can reflect upon his/her practices in a systematic manner, and build up knowledge about the same to share with the audience of the teachers and educators.
The distribution of mentors & mentees would be done by the working committee, in accordance with the theme of the research chosen by the mentees and the specialization of the mentor. There will be, hence, some subject‐specific mentors as well as some generic mentors, in the group of mentors finalized by NCERT & TeacherSITY. The interaction between the mentors and the mentees would be through e‐mail/phone and wherever possible through personal interaction also.
Basic Role Of The Mentors in this Process are:
Pre‐Research • Draw a plan of action*, in consultation with the mentees, for research; including stages
of pre‐research writing, observation & reflection, reading of relevant literature, writing‐ during‐ the research, and final writing.
• To provide the mentees with the relevant literature, in accordance with the chosen theme, and make it sure that the mentees read the same. Also, discuss the suggested literature threadbare for the convenience of the mentees' understanding.
• Solicit the understanding of the mentees in writing, at regular intervals. • Correcting the understanding of the mentees without discouraging him/her. • To encourage mentees to put ideas and practices in words, by discussing the
issue/theme threadbare. • Encourage mentees to think critically, be able to formulate ten fundamental questions
(research questions) for the research on the chosen theme.
During Research • To encourage the mentees to note down details of observations and reflection;
especially, orient the thinking and writing of the mentees to the practices and actions, so that the reflections have empirical references & verifiable data.

• To enable the mentees to be analytical, by engaging in a critical discussion on the observations and reflections of the mentees whereby each aspect of the research is objectively questioned.
• The mentor should also bring in the balance between/ synthesis of theory and practice in the research paper, by suggesting the researcher to connect the practices of teachers with the theory learnt from the literature.
• To encourage the mentees to produce at least three rough drafts of the researched writing. The mentor should read draft critically and offer suggestions.
Post‐Research
• Help the mentees finalize the paper; point out logical errors, analytical mistakes, factual doubts, or problems of the arguments if not substantial, so on; at least two drafts before the final draft is produced.
• Also, help the mentees design the presentation of the paper in the conference within an ideal time limit of 15 minutes, by highlighting the most cardinal parts of the paper.
Role of the Mentees would be following:
• At the stage of working out plan of action, the mentees could design and help the mentors decide on the plan of action.
• At every stage, the mentees should feel free to interact with the mentors, discuss the research, and remind the mentors for quicker responses, if need be.
• At every stage, there should be readiness to incorporate the suggestions of the mentors. • At every stage, there should be readiness to write any number of draft according to the
plan of action. • At every stage, the mentees should be willing to maintain originality of thoughts &
should refer to actions/practices of teaching.
* PLAN OF ACTION, as mutually drawn by the mentor and the mentees should take care of the following‐
• Convenience of the mentees, in terms of the frequency of interaction, mode of interaction, numbers of drafts to be written by the mentees.
• An optimum flexibility should be maintained in order to avoid the dead‐ends for the mentees, and the mentees should be encouraged to voice the difficulties if any

• Flexibility, however, should not mean a compromise on the systematic and rigorous research work; thus, within the flexible plan of action, the mentor should try to get a standard research done and the paper produced.
Kinds of Papers for this Conference:
• Action Research paper: based on the experiments/innovations you executed in your teaching practice
• Idea based papers: theoretical analysis with reference to concrete evidences
A common guideline for the design of the Papers • A background of the research, as to why the theme was chosen, what were the main
motives, inspiration, objectives/some theoretical background & some philosophical insights (in approx. 250 words)
• A concept note on what exactly the researcher wants to do in the research/ what is the context, location, and other detail of the place/ who are the respondents or what is going to generate the data/ what are main questions around which the research is woven, and the methodology for (the way by which) conducting the research, etc. (in approx. 250 words)
• The research in the empirical context‐ as to what was done and what were the main findings/interpretation of data/ generalized suggestions emerging from the research (in approx. 400 words)
• Justify as to why this research/findings are appropriate for everybody to know/link the same with the larger discourse on the issue, connecting it with he starting point of the paper (in approx. 200 words).
• In addition to the main text (in approx. 1100 words), every paper must carry a detail of the references at the end of the paper. If need be, endnotes/footnotes could also be added.
A common guideline for the Abstracts of the Papers
• Abstract of the paper shall have a clear and self explanatory title • It should be restricted to the limit of 300‐400 words (not less then 300 and not more
than 400) • it should inform the reader about, 'what would be the researched paper about, why is
this paper important, how and where the research for this paper would be done and who all will be the respondents/resource persons for the same.
