Jerry Cahn, Ph.D., J.D., Business and Leader Development Expert

“There’s got to be a better way!”

An attorney and psychologist, Dr. Cahn is a thought leader and

public speaker, strategic consultant, and trusted advisor. He

focuses his entrepreneurial and organizational skills to empower

people to build businesses and ecosystems which advance

careers and personal growth. Through Better Way Workshops

and Webinars, people find “better ways” to resolve challenges.

This sheet focuses on two topics of interest: (1) Creating a cost-

effective ecosystem by which companies provide high ROI

mentoring internships to help young people make better career

decisions and (2) Enabling Next Gen Leaders needs to address

challenges of this increasingly complex and fast-paced world. Further details on Dr. Cahn are at the end of this sheet and the Presentation Excellence Group website.

Today’s youth is experiencing severe under-employment:

• The youth unemployment rate is double that of the national average.

• 50+% of all college graduates cannot find jobs commensurate with their skills (AP)

• Too many young people do not know how to launch a viable career path (McKinsey)

“A mind is a terrible thing to waste.” Young people who have no exposure to career opportunities are

likely to settle for low paying, non-engaging jobs like flipping burgers. Demanding lots more from

schools won’t work; they already are overloaded. Creating dedicated mentoring programs for a few

select career-disadvantaged students is expensive and ignores the majority of youth in need. The

solution, as Peter Cappelli (Wharton) notes, is to engage private companies and their workplaces.

Our mission is to encourage and enable companies to increase the quantity and quality of mentoring

internships through cost-effective, holistic programs which provide staff with training, support, and tools

(such as evaluations) to ensure a high ROI. By incorporating mentoring internships into the daily routine of

companies, we can provide career-enhancing advice to millions of students inexpensively.

Ask most parents, and they’ll tell you they wish their children could get internships – where they learn about

work/careers and get advice from their supervisors/mentors. Yet, the parents’ companies provide only a

handful or internships, often only in the summer and not year-round. Through his companies,

All members of the “ecosystem” benefit from a properly designed and executed program, including:

• Company’s growth prospects – by identifying most talented people to recruit for future jobs

• Company’s community and reputation – by enabling the young people to become ‘brand ambassadors:

• Staff who are willing to mentor students while they work on special projects - increasing their own

productivity and giving them a chance to feel good about helping young people

• Students get exposure to career work-related opportunities – enabling them to learn about themselves,

develop confidence & self-esteem, and identify what future education they need to achieve career goals

• (even) Career counselors benefit – by having more options from which students can choose!

How many interns can we serve? Our founder, Dr. Cahn, has facilitated mentoring internships to 500+ high

school, college and graduate (domestic and international) students to date! That’s how we know it can work.

Mentor Our Kids’ mission is to get CEOs and HR leaders of companies of all sizes to commit to building year-

round programs. Imagine the impact on our young people and economy and the future of the United States
