Surah  Al  Muminoon

Surah  Al  Muminoon  is  a  Makki  Surah  revealed  before  Hijra  of  the  Prophet  SAW.  It  was  revealed  to  strengthen  the  believers  and  to  keep  them  firm  on  the  faith.  In  this  Surah,  Allah  is  telling  us  about  all  of  His  signs  to  strengthen  the  belief.

We  will  see  the  different  means  to  increase  faith.  In  this  Surah  we  are  told  about  Prophet  Nuh  that  is  a  practical  example  of  a  believer  and  disbeliever.  Allah  is  giving  his  support  to  the  believers  at  all  times  and  He  made  the  disbelievers  to  be  defeated.

Today  we  will  continue  with  the  story  of  Prophet  Nuh  A.S

SECTION  IV:  STORY  OF  PROPHET  NUH  (AYAH  23  -‐31)

 Ayah  27  contd.

“So We inspired to him, "Construct the ship under Our observation, and Our inspiration, and when Our command comes and the oven overflows, put into the ship from each [creature] two mates and your family, except those for whom the decree [of destruction] has proceeded. And do not address Me concerning those who have wronged; indeed, they are to be drowned. Allah   inspired   the  Prophet  Nuh  A.S.   to  construct  and  build   the   ship  under  His  Observation.  The  other  inspiration  is  that  Allah  is  telling  Prophet  Nuh  the  signs  of  destruction  that  is  the  water  will  gush  from  the  oven.  After  the  sign  comes  then  he  instructed  Prophet  Nuh  to  board  two  mates  of  the  creatures  and  the  believers  onto  the  ship.  Except  for  the  wife  and  son  of  Prophet  Nuh  who  will  be  separated  from  his  household.    Allah  caused  Prophet  Nuh  and  his  wife  and  son  to  be  separated  due  to  their  disbelief.  Belief  is  what  makes  us  united  and  disbelief  causes  separation.  La  ilaha  ilal  la  unites  the  believers.  Allah  knows  who  are  believers  and  who  are  disbelievers.  This  is  the  separation.  That   is  why  Allah  will  not  allow  a  person  with  one  atom  of   faith   to  be  drowned;  only   those  who  have  100%  disbelief  in  their  hearts  were  drowned.

طبنى فى ٱٱلذيین ظظلمواا ـ ووال تخ means  “And  do  not  address  Me  concerning  those  who  have  wronged”

Allah   is   commanding   Prophet  Nuh  A.S   not   to   address  Allah   regarding   those  who   have  wronged  themselves.   Prophet  Nuh  A.S.   called   on   his   son   to   come  with   him,   but   he   said   “I  will   go   to   the  mountain  and  it  will  protect  me  from  the  water”.  His  son  trusted  his  mind  instead  of  trusting  Allah.  He  thought  he  could  climb  the  mountain  and   it  will  protect  him  from  the  disaster.  Prophet  Nuh  replied  to  him  that  no  one  would  be  saved  today  except  those  who  have  special  mercy  of  Allah.  His  son  was  drowned  along  with  the  disbelievers.

Surah  Al  Muminoon,  Class  11

PAGE  3

! The  ship  resembles  the  salvation  for  the  believers.    ! The  waves  of  the  ocean  resemble  the  destruction.  The  “fitnas”  (trials)  in  the  life  are  like  the

waves.

There  is  no  way  of  salvation  except  for  obeying  Allah  and  His  Messenger  SAW.  We  should  not  rely  on   anyone   except   Allah.   We   are   going   through   so   many   fitnas   in   life   and   it   is   a   cause   of   our  destruction.  There  is  nothing  that  will  save  us  from  the  trials  fitna  of  the  Duniya  and  the  Akhirah  except  La  illa  ha  illal   la.    Surah  Muminoon  is  telling  us  if  we  want  to  be  saved  from  drowning  we  need  to  follow  Allah  and  his  messenger  SAW.

,means ظظلمواا  “  who  have  done  wrong”.

This  refers  to  the  disbelievers  who  did  not  obey  Allah  and  His  messenger.  Allah  is  the  All  Wise,  He  will  never  treat  a  believer  similar  to  a  disbeliever  because  that  would  be  injustice  and  Allah  is  never  unjust  –   it  negates   the  wisdom  of  Allah.  Allah  will  not   save  a  disbeliever.   Ibrahim  A.S  wanted   to  intercede   for  his   father,   but  no  one   can   intercede   for   a  disbeliever.  That   is  why  we  need   to   take  ourselves  out  from  the  Zulm,  because  no  one  can  intercede  for  the  Zalimeen.

غرقونن ,means إإنہم م  “verily  they  are  to  be  drowned”.

Allah   is   the   All-‐Knowing   of   who   is   deserving   of   punishment.   Therefore  we   should   always   try   to  purify  our  hearts,  and  not  deceive  ourselves.  We  don’t  want   to   say  we  are  believers  when  we  are  not,   or  we   love  Allah  when  we   don’t,   or  we   follow   the   Sunnah,  when  we   don’t.    We   should   not  drown   in   the   fitna  of   the  Duniya;   in   the   fitna  of   the   sin,   in   the   fitna  of   the  Shirk,   in   the   fitna  of  Children  and  general  disobedience.  Allah  is  all-‐aware  of  everyone’s  heart.  Allah  knows  who  is  the  one  deserving  salvation.

Ayah  28

“And when you have boarded the ship, you and those with you, then say, 'Praise to Allah who has saved us form the wrongdoing people."

Allah  is  telling  Prophet  Nuh  A.S.  step  by  step  what  he  is  supposed  to  do  once  he  has  embarked  on  the  ship.

means فإذذاا ٱٱستويیت أأنت وومن معك  “And  when  you  have  embarked,  you and  whoever  is  with  you”

,means فإذذاا  “when”

,means ٱٱستويیت  “boarded”.  “raised/  climbed”  (on  the  ship)

To  climb  on  the  ship  shows  that  it  is  high  and  tall

Who  is  climbing  on  the  ship?

,means وومن معك  “you  and  those  with  you” It  is  Nuh  and  the  believers  who  are  with  him.  And  it  shows  that  we  need  to  climb  for  belief.  This    is  why   the   believers   are   elevated.   The  more   one   has   belief,   the  more   he   is   elevated.    When   one   is  elevated  then  the  Duniya  and  the  matters  of  the  Duniya  are  very  small  for  him.

,means على ٱٱلفلك  “on  the  ship”.

The   shape   of   the   ship   is   that   it   is   floating.   This   indicated   the   belief   keeps   you   floating   and   not  drown.

Surah  Al  Muminoon,  Class  11

What  is  the  Dua  that  needs  to  be  said  when  climbing  on  the  ship  that  is  an  inspiration  from  Allah?

FIRST  DUA

,means فقل ٱٱلحمد #  “All  praises  and  thanks  are  due  to  Allah”

They  need  to  praise  Allah  for  saving  them  from  drowning.  All  praise  is  due  to  Allah  because  of  His  perfection  and  bounties  upon  us.  We  praise  Allah  because  He  is  perfect  in  His  majesty,  perfect  in  His  greatness,  etc.  All  praise  to  Allah  for  the  belief.

لميین ـ ٮنا من ٱٱلقومم ٱٱلظ means ٱٱلذىى نج  “Who  has  saved  us  from  the  people  who  are  Zalimoon”

This   shows   us   that   the   believers   attribute   all   perfection   to   Allah   who   saved   them   from   the  Zalimoon  people.  The  believers  do  not  attribute  the  salvation  to  themselves.

! That  is  why  the  dwellers  of  paradise  will  say  ‘Alhamdulillah’  that  Allah  saved  us  from  sins,  from   Zulm.   The   wrongdoers,   the   Zalimoon,   are   disobeying   Allah   and  He   saved   us   from  making  Zulm,  and  for  this  we  need  to  praise  Allah.

! When  we  see  someone  sinning,  we  should  not  feel  proud  but  we  need  to  praise  Allah  that  He  saved  us  from  falling  into  the  same  sin.  Allah  did  not  make  us  drown.  The  test   in  the  Duniya  is  la  ilaha  illal  la  and  we  need  to  attribute  all  of  the  blessings  to  Allah.  We  will  be  saved  from  the  punishment  when  we  are  saved  from  the  Zulm.  For  example,  when  we  see  someone  worshiping  a  cow,  we  should  not  feel  proud  or  make  fun  of  such  people.  Instead  we  need   to   thank  Allah   that  He  did  not  make  us   a   cow  worshipper,   and  we  need   to   ask  Allah  to  keep  us  firm  on  the  guidance.

Surah  Al  Muminoon,  Class  11

Ayah  29

“And say, 'My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing place, and You are the best to accommodate [us]."

SECOND  DUA

This  is  the  second  part  of  the  Dua

ا باررك بب أأنزلنى منزال م means ووقل رر  “  And  say   ‘My   lord,  Cause  me  to   land  at  a  blessed  landing  place”

After   first   praising   Allah   that  He   saved   them,   and   then   they   want   to   land   on   a   blessed   landing  place.

منزال     means  “landing  place”

As  a  human,  we  want  to  land  on  the  ground,  even  if  we  are  flying  first-‐class,  we  want  to  land;  we  don’t  want  to  be  roaming  in  the  air  or  on  sea.

There  is  a  Dua  in  the  Fortress  in  the  Muslim  when  landing  in  a  country.  The  Dua  is  as  below:

O  Allah,   Lord  of   the   seven  heavens  and  all   they  overshadow,  Lord  of   the   seven  worlds   and  all   they  uphold,  Lord  of  the  devils  and  all  they  lead  astray,  Lord  of  the  winds  and  all  they  scatter.  I  ask  You  for  the  goodness  of  this  town  and  for  the  goodness  of  its  people,  and  for  the  goodness  it  contains.  I  seek  refuge   in  You   from   its  evil,   from  the  evil  of   its  people  and   from  the  evil   it   contains.  –  Hisnul  Hasin  from  Tabarani.

ا باررك م    means  “blessed’.

Allah  is  the  only  Owner  of  the  Barakah.  We  want  to  set  foot  and  begin  good.

means ووأأنت خيیر ٱٱلمنزليین  ”and  You  are  the  Best  of  those  who  bring  to  land’”

After  Nuh  made  the  Dua,  Allah  responded  and  accepted  their  supplication  (Dua)  by  making  them  to  land  in  a  blessed  land.

Surah  Al  Muminoon,  Class  11
