Far far away there lived a crow and a swan. They liked to talk together. The crow asked the swan, “Do you know where is Lithuania?” The swam answered, “Follow this path and you come to Lithuania.”

Even they were friends, the crow was jelous that the swam was so white, “How does it come that you always are white?” “I bathe and wash every day,” replied the swan.

Crow started to begrudge because swan was with white feathers but he was with black feathers.

Kai atėjo naktis varna miegančią gulbę apipylė žemėm, purvu.

When the night came the crow

poured the dirt and soil onto the

sleeping swan.

In the evening when the swan was

sleeping the crow started to pepper

it with mud.

Ir rytą gulbė buvo murzina, išpurvinta.

The next morning the swan woke

up all dirty and soiled.

She thought - the swan will be as

black as she was because of that.

She bathed and washed and

became even whiter.

But the swan washed all of the mud

off and was white again.

The crow wanted to be white too,

so she decided to wash. She

jumped into the water and nealy

drowned.

The crow started to wash herself

too, but still she wasn’t as white as

the swan.

Išlipus į krantą džiovinosi ir kranksėjo: “Kran-kran, aš nemurzina, kran-kran aš juoda.” Apsidairė ir pamatė, kad gulbės nėra. Kitą dieną varna laukė, kol gulbė atskris ir vėl jos galės pasikalbėti.

She scrambled onto the shore and said, “Cow-cow, I am not dirty. Cow-cow, I am black.” She looked around but couldn’d see the swan. She sat down to wait for the swan so they can talk again.

Kiek varną beprausi vistiek bus juoda.

No matter how much you wash the crow it is always black.
