Stories 

In 2013, I was convinced by Mr. Yuichi Imai to organize a concert for his artist, Sachiko Miyashita. I 

happily accepted as it was a great and fantastic event for me to have such a wonderful audience. I 

was thinking to arrange it out to be more than just a concert. So, I started set up guitar competition 

in the afternoon and then the concert in the evening. With assistance from the Thailand Guitar 

Society, first prize winner will be qualified to the final round of the Asia International Guitar Festival 

and Competition. This make the competition more interesting to top level players. Thanks to 

Thailand Guitar Society. 

The TGS Guitar Competitions 2014 and 2015 were very successful. Moreover, both winners 

Chinnawat Themkumkwun and Worrapat Yansupap won first prize in the Asia International Guitar 

Festival and Competition 2014 and 2015. 

Third year,2016, was also another successful year with more sponsors, Visesnut fine instrument case 

and The Thai Guitar Makers. Thanks to all sponsors, TGS staffs, and Mr. Yuichi Imai. 

My 1981 mathematics teacher, assistance professor Chaowalit Soongyai, who is now director of 

Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit Demonstration School Secondary, recently asked me to 

arrange guitar concert for the school. With pleasure, I offered the director and his music department 

to have this event in the school. The title has been changed to CGO Guitar Competition. Venue is the 

school’s Mini Theatre. I love Satit Prasarnmit. 

CGO stands for Classic Guitar Orchestra. The orchestra consists of alto, prime, bass, contra bass and 

chembalo guitars. With variety of sizes and sounds they are perfect combination in terms of 

dynamic, tone color and special effects. Originally, I was encouraged by Mr. Sumio Kurosawa and 

Mr. Yuichi Imai to organize the orchestra. They once invited me to attend the JGA guitar festival in 

Japan. CGO now has 15 members with age range from 18 to 65 years old. Nationalities are Thai, 

Japanese and Dutch. CGO intends to play concerto and orchestral music. Classical and popular music 

are also arranged to play. 

Shin‐Nihon Guitar Ensemble, conducted by Mr. Touru Kobayashi, is invited by Mr. Imai. The group 

has many more members, but only seven members come this time. 

I wish audience enjoy this kind of orchestral music. Hopefully it becomes more and more popular 

soon.

Prasarnmit Demonstration School Secondary 

Srinakharinwirot University Prasarnmit Demonstration School Secondary or “Satit Prasarnmit” is the 

original Thai school model as a testing and demonstration school of Srinakharinwirot University, 

where the most innovative education procedures have been created and demonstrated.  

With strong fundaments especially the support from Srinakharinwirot University, the school alumni, 

new facilities and modern technologies, students are well creatively educated and ready to spend 

their quality lives in a growing modern society. 

Base on “Learning how to learn”, students have developed in the ways of creative thinking, problem 

solving, communication, collaboration, creativity and innovation.  

Music is one of the fifteen majors offered in Satit Prasarnmit. Our orchestra, The Satit Prasarnmit 

Orchestra, conducted by professional full time teacher, Mr. Kittisak Prasertkul, always impresses 

audience in every concert. Concerning the classical guitar is getting more popular these days, we 

also offer classical guitar program in high school (pre‐college) level.  

With 250‐ elevated seat concert hall, the Mini Theatre, we are proud to welcome all classical guitar 

lovers here. The hall is not only well designed in sound acoustic but also in sound prove air 

conditioned. No amplifier is necessary for classical concert. Audience can enjoy the natural acoustic 

sound.  

Wishing CGO Guitar Competition 2017 great success, all competitors get good experience and all

Juries shall score each competitor in 4 categories which are: 

1. Musical     35% 

2. Technique     30% 

3. Sound Quality   20% 

4. Repertoire     15% 

Score A, B, C and D must be given to every competitors in all 4 categories. Any blank score is 

considered D. 

Calculation A   = 4 (The Best) 

    B+ = 3.5 

    B   = 3 

    C+ = 2.5 

    C   = 2 

    D+ = 1.5 

    D    = 1 

Scores in every categories will be averaged among all juries then multiplies by the % weight. 

When sum up the weighted average scores we will get individual score for ranking. Rank all 

competitors by the score. 

Tie score will be judged by comparing score in Musical first then Technique and so on. If still tie, 

majority vote shall be done by juries. 

The first prize winner must have at least 3.00 score average, otherwise will be considered as 

second prize winner without the first. 

Score sheet will be collected right after last competitor finished and cannot be changed after 

collection. 

No discussion will be made among juries. 

Score sheet will not be shown to public. Only prize ranking will be announced to public.

  Born in Tokyo and began studying the classical guitar at the age 11. Kobayashi studied classical guitar and guitar ensemble at Japan Guitar Music Academy under Hiroki Niibori. He graduated from the School in 1981 with the premier prix. He studied conducting technique under Shun‐ichi Kikuchi. 1980 First prize in the 10th All Japan Guitar Competition ensemble section. 1988 Kobayashi and Shin‐Nihon guitar ensemble has performed in Taiwan. He is number one school’s Guitar ensemble teacher in Japan. He incumbent is the private Senzoku music collage lecturer. Kanagawa prefectural Tama high school guitar ensemble lecturer. Saitama prefectural Kawagoe high school classics guitar lecturer. Coach of the Sophia University guitar ensemble. etc, Many schools have taught him,won the contest. He is representative of the Japan Association of Educational Music. Conductor of Shin‐Nihon Guitar Ensemble(SNGE).

Alto guitar(Violin1st&2nd) ‐ The alto guitar is tuned a 5th higher than the prime(classical guitar) 

guitar. The short scale makes it possible to play high technique music. It is the most popular guitar in 

the guitar orchestra.  

Prim guitar(Viola) ‐ This is the traditional guitar using nylon strings. 

Bass guitar(Cello) ‐ It is tuned a 4th lower than the prime guitar and 1 octave lower than the alto 

guitar. It takes an important part with the alto and prime guitar in a guitar orchestra. The rich sound 

with strong dynamic is attractive to the human heart. 

Contrabass guitar(D.B.) ‐ As the contrabass guitar is tuned 1 octave lower than the prime guitar, it is 

possible for a player to use the same music scores. The length of the strings is the longest of the 

orchestral guitars. The rich sound with a hard core builds a bridge between the bass guitar and the 

guitarron. It pushes the sounds of the bass family to the back of concert halls. 

Guitarron(D.B.or Timpani) ‐ The Guitarron is tuned 1 octave lower than the prime guitar. The strings 

are very thick, and the body is very big. The sound is so unique completely unlike the others. It is the 

most important guitar in a guitar orchestra because the rich and warm sound wraps the whole 

sound of the guitar orchestra in its deep bosom. It has the same range as the contrabass guitar. The 

dynamic style of playing attracts people's attention everywhere. 

Alto cembalo Guitar ‐ It is tuned a 5th higher than the prime guitar, and creates a splendid sound 

when played with needles. It is necessary to play baroque music. By changing the thickness of the 

needles and the position of play, even the sound of the mandolin and the zither can be created. 

CGO (Classic Guitar Orchestra) ‐ Founded in 2016, consists of alto cembalo, alto, prime, bass, and 

contra bass guitars. With variety of sizes and sounds they are perfect combination in terms of 

dynamic, tone color and special effects. Encouraged by Mr. Sumio Kurosawa and Mr. Yuichi Imai to 

organize the orchestra. CGO now has 16 members with age range from 18 to 65 years old. 

Nationalities are Thai, Japanese and Dutch. CGO intends to play concerto and orchestral music.

Padet Netpakdee ‐ a Thailand‐Based Classical Guitarist 

 

Born in Chiang Mai, a province in the northern part of Thailand 

that is rich in arts and cultures, Padet began exploring music 

through traditional and regional musical instruments. He started 

taking formal classical guitar lesson at the age of ten with local 

instructors: Pracha Jaitae and Manoon Ploypradab. The receipt of 

Gold Medal Prize at the age of fourteen from the Thailand Youth 

Music Competition which was an all‐instrument competition, and 

the first prizes from Yamaha Thailand Music Festival in the years 

1999 to 2003 consecutively ensured him to pursue a career in 

music. 

Padet went to College of Music, Mahidol University (Bangkok, 

Thailand), majoring in classical guitar performance, and received a Bachelor of Music degree with 

first‐class honors in 2009. There, he studied with the pioneers of classical guitar teaching in the 

country: Suvich Klinsmith, Leon Koudelak, and Nalin Komentrakarn; and Dr. Paul Cesarczyk who has 

effectively contributed to advancing his perspectives in the world of classical guitar and academics. 

During his bachelor study, Padet started giving private lessons and found teaching as his calling in 

addition to his enjoyment in performing. 

In 2010, Padet applied and was offered a scholarship to continue his study in the Master of Music 

program at Conservatorium Maastricht (Maastricht, the Netherlands) where he studied with 

maestro Carlo Marchione and had his musical ideas and techniques solidified. There, he shared 

experiences and classrooms with many top‐class musicians from Europe and other countries. 

In 2013, Padet studied with maestro Sergio Assad in the Professional Studies Diploma Program at 

San Francisco Conservatory of Music (California, USA). He also received coaching from David 

Tanenbaum and Marc Teicholz. 

His interest in music and studies is furthered to arranging and composing music, orchestration and 

transcription; and not limited to classical trainings. 

Now, Padet is serving as an adjunct faculty of classical guitar at Princess Galyani Vadhana Institute of 

Music, a conservatory that offers degrees in music in high professional level.

The Shin‐Nihon Guitar Ensemble Junior 

Shin‐Nihon Guitar ensemble founded in 1989. Our conductor, Touru Kobayashi treats the ensemble 

like "One guitar". We make the music in good balance, good sounds for special music experience. In 

order to pursue the art of guitar ensemble, we played the songs of the different styles. All guitars 

which we use made by Sumio Kurosawa for players themselves. 

Guitar Ensemble is still the world of the future, we carefully nurture the music.
