St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church’s Mission Statement

The people of God, in the parish of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, in union with our Pastor, are centered on the Eucharist and are a welcoming and diverse community. We are committed to proclaim the Good News of God's love by developing the spiritual growth of our parish family, encouraging active participation, personal stewardship and community outreach.

As a Parish we are planning our mission around the Seven Essential Elements of Parish Life

EVANGELIZATION (Our overall mission): Is the way in which our clergy and parishioners bring the message of the gospel to each other, to our local and broader communities, and especially to former Catholics, and the un-churched; we do this first by our actions then with invitation always offering a hospitable environment in all our ministries and organizations.

WORSHIP: Is the way our parish celebrates our weekly liturgy, sharing God’s presence in us as we are gathered, in us as we are nourished by the Word of God proclaimed and by the Eucharist, the real precious body and blood of Jesus, and from us to others as we are sent forth into the routine of our lives to be Jesus to those we meet on our journey.

WORD: Is our process of bringing alive the words and actions of the Scriptures into the faith formation of our parishioners and their children, and all others who participate in our actions of Liturgy, Catechesis, Sacrament preparation, and Education.

COMMUNITY: Is the way in which we draw parishioners together in mutual support, activities, celebration and social and spiritual growth. It is this unity that results when members become involved with one another in all the other elements of our pastoral mission.

SERVICE: As Catholics we are shown by Jesus in the gospels to be people of charity and justice, and over the centuries the Church has development a wealth of teaching on social justice and the value of human life from conception through death. We strive to practice this justice in the many ministries’ and organizations’ outreach endeavors.

STEWARDSHIP: As a Stewardship Parish each individual’s potential to use one’s gifts is vital to the individual and to the parish collectively so that there is the opportunity for all to strive to be the best version of ourselves. Simply put stewardship is our response to all the gifts God has given us.

LEADERSHIP: Our Parishioners, Staff, Councils and Commissions aid the pastor in developing leaders and plans to carry out the other six elements of our parish mission. As Baptized Catholics we are all called to be leaders, but some are appointed specific roles of leadership.

TIME & TALENT MINISTRIES “His Heart…Our Hands”

“Fostering Stewardship as a way of l i fe”

A Message from Our Pastor My Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Discipleship is the ancient and most effective form of education and formation. It is the way to follow Jesus. The disciple lives close to the Master. James and Andrew followed Jesus. Jesus turned and saw them following him and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him “Rabbi” – which means Teacher- “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” (John 1:36-39) So close is the bond between the Master and the disciple that if you kill the Master you might as well kill the disciple. In Gethsemane, Jesus said to the soldiers, “If it’s me you’re looking for, let these men go.” (John 18:8) When they let the disciples go, deep in his heart, Jesus knew his mission would succeed. Our parish is a community of disciples celebrating the presence of Jesus through liturgy and ministry. It is grace and providence that brought you to this wonderful community where you encounter and celebrate Jesus. Discipleship demands a response, and that response is Stewardship. If you open your eye to the fact that God has blessed you. God saved you and transformed your life. He has showered you with gifts both spiritual and material. Having received so much, you now feel the need to give. Stewardship is not giving to a need; it is the need to give. It is returning to God his manifold blessing to us. The blessings that we return to God is our expression of thanksgiving and gratitude benefiting countless others in our community of faith Stewardship is fueled by the fact that there is intense spiritual joy in feeling the need to give rather than needing to receive. Why? Because this was how Jesus lived his life. “No greater love a person has than to lay down his life for his friends” I would like to thank everyone who put this directory together, with special thanks for the advertisers who covered the cost in making it such a wonderful resource. May the Lord bless you and your family with the peace of Jesus Christ. Rev. David DeJulio Pastor

WHO IS A GOOD STEWARD?”

A Message from our Stewardship Commission:

Steward is someone who manages someone else’s things; we should be managing what God has given us,

whatever that may be. Each of us has been given a unique identity by God, some can dance, some can sing, some are friendly, some can teach, some are nurturers, some are quiet and are good listeners, some are helpful, some are wealthy, some are poor…no matter our identity, we should steward to all children of God who need the grace and gift we have been given. It encourages charity towards one another, no matter if it is within the church, the community or our family. We are called to discern, develop and use our identity. A good steward lives their lives for the Glory of God and the Service of others.

A good steward attends and participates weekly in the sharing of the Sunday Eucharist and the Sacraments at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. “A good steward is committed to personal spiritual growth.” A good steward is committed to living out his or her call to discipleship within the community by giving his or her time and talent on a regular basis to carry out the Lord’s work. Every fall, each good steward completes the Time & Talent form and serves in at least one area of parish ministry throughout the year. A good steward financially supports the mission and ministries of the entire parish through the Sunday and Holy Day envelopes or on line weekly giving on a regular basis. Every fall, each good steward’s household makes a sacrificial, financial pledge to support God’s work at St. Mark for the coming year. They fulfill their pledge throughout the following calendar year. Let us start today to become an even better steward of God’s given gifts to us.

As disciples, we offer our entire selves. This includes our personalities, natural talents, education, life experiences, and background. We give it all to God to be used for His purpose. This requires trust and an openness to His plan.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit by virtue of our Baptism and Confirmation. They are ours to keep, God gifts us further by giving us special gifts or charisms. As we work in ministry, our unique gifts will enfold and only then will we discover the great power and Love of God!

Confirmation (High School) – Confirmation is a deepening of baptismal gifts. The sacrament roots us more deeply in our identity as God’s children; unites us more firmly with Christ; increases in us the gifts of the Holy Spirit; binds us more closely to Church; and gives us special strength to bear witness to our faith. Preparation for Confirmation is a two-year faith formation process. Therefore, teens are called each year to participate in Catholic Social Ministry Projects, service projects within our Church community, and attend retreats and required classes.

Sacramental Preparation Gifts You’ll Give Gifts You’ll Receive

Baptism - through the waters of new life, we welcome new members into our community with great joy. As we celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism, we recall the saving power of Christ over sin and death, and the joy that the entire Church shares as they initiate new Members into our Catholic faith.

The Baptismal Font is a gate to God’s kingdom. Through it, millions of Christians in 21 centuries have become the temple of the Holy Trinity. We facilitate the parents on awareness of this extraordinary mystery of salvation.

Having in mind that the last words of Jesus recorded in the gospels are: “Go and Baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. When we facilitate the parents the preparation for this sacrament of their children we become agents of evangelization.

First Reconciliation – our children are becoming more and more aware of their own failures and mistakes. They are discovering a God who loves them very much and they feel sorry for offending Him. They learn and practice how to reconcile with our loving God through this sacrament of healing.

Contact Deacon Jose Moronta: [email protected]

When the children receive their First Reconciliation, they’re not just complying with a requirement for their First Communion. They’re celebrating a sacrament in full awareness for the first time in their lives!

Reconciliation is something that God does, oppose to Confession is something we do. This sacrament is not about confessing sins, but about obtaining more graces from God.

First Eucharist – our children participate fully in the Eucharist after receiving their First Holy Communion. This is a long awaited time; expected since our children were baptized. The parochial community rejoices when seeing our children receiving for their first time in their lives the Body and the Precious Blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Contact Deacon Jose Moronta: [email protected]

The children who get a share of the Holy Communion get full membership in the Assembly of the Children of God who meet at the Banquet of the Lord.

The Eucharist has an extraordinary power of transformation. When we facilitate a proper preparation we become agents of the grace of God.

The PMI is an inventory that examines couples attitudes and expectations toward the Sacrament of Matrimony. It is an effective tool to assist a couple in identifying their potential strengths and areas of development in their relationship. The process takes place in the home of a PMI trained couple.
