Gebruik jounetot jou eie voordeel.Ek lees van ’nmanwat as jong

te houmetwat jy doen.Moenie sommer touopgooi nie. ’n Besigheidword oor tyd gebouen nie oornag nie. Sorg ook dat jy aanhouleer. Lees soveel as moontlik oor besigheiden wat suksesvolle sakepersone doen, inkoerante, tydskrifte, boeke, die internet, ens. Onthou, jy kan vir jouself werk, ... ASJY WIL.

Muratie’s new pink bubblyMuratie has released itsmaiden Rosé Cap Classique, the Lady Alice 2012, in re-sponse to countless requestsforapinkbubbly fromwom-en visiting theMuratie tast-ing room

The grapes of this bubblywere handpicked at the end ofJanuary 2012, at between 19and 20°C, and whole-bunchpressed. Only free-run juicewas used and settled for oneday at 8°C after which it wasinoculated and fermented forabout two weeks at 14–16°C. Itisablendof72%PinotNoirand28% Chardonnay and spent 26months on the lees before dé-gorgement.

Layers and layers of flavourcharacterise this classically-styled crisp dry MCC. The pro-nounced aromas of lemons, limes, almond blossom andtoasted cereal are echoed onthe palate where the frothy, persistent bubbles dance onyour tongue as the flavoursmove through more citrus, toasted buttered brioche and adistinctively salty edge, all ofit wrapped up in rich buttercream. Vibrant acidity addszest to each mouthful of round-edfruitandthefinishislongandlingering,end-ing with a final tangy twist.

It’s a wine for celebrations and commisera-tions, for drinking on its own or pairing withfood (try oysters or Gentleman’s Relish ontoast) and is certain to turn any occasion intosomething memorable and special.

Muratie Lady Alice Brut Rosé 2012 retails na-tionally for about R160.

Lady Alice SarahStanford

Muratie’s Cap Classiquehonours Lady Alice SarahStanford, who was married toasenator, andascustodiansofMuratie after they bought thefarm in 1909, they lived the lifeof the landed gentry at thetime. Life was filled with end-less festivities: luncheons, cocktails, soirées, banquets, balls and fancy dress partiesas well as hosts of shooting, hunting and tennis gather-ings. And as a high societywoman of note, Lady Alicewas adept at turning everyevent into a dance party, withjazzy tunes in the backgroundand the notes of fine wine onthenose.Muratie’sLadyAliceMéthode Cap Classique toaststhis lovely lady of pleasure!Muratie’s Iconic WinesAt Muratie, the passion for

preserving the estate’s richheritage and the intriguinghuman stories woven into thevery fabric of its centuries oldhistory, are captured in everynookandcrannyofthisfamilyfarm, where the uniqueold-world ambience is almosttangible.

Even the wines reflect a tan-gible sense of time suspended. The Melck fami-lyhashonouredtheestate’s fascinatinghistoryby naming all Muratie’s Iconic Wines after ex-traordinary characters from the farm’s colour-ful past, each with its own enchanting story de-scribed on the back label. And there are a myri-ad stories reaching as far back as the 17thcentury, making Muratie one of the oldestwineries in the Cape Winelands.

Private institutes boost educationPrivate higher education is becoming thestudyrouteofchoiceforanincreasingnumberof young South Africans, in line with interna-tional trends.

Although in the past private education attertiary level was often pursued mostly in in-stances where space at a public universitycould not be secured, or for courses of studyother than degrees, that is no longer the case.

“We have seen a definite increase in applica-tions from prospective students who elect togo the private route, partly because of the indi-vidual attention and smaller class sizes of-fered by many accredited institutions, as wellas unique course offerings. Additionally, be-cause of private institutions’ focus on work-readiness and post-qualification assistance intermsofplacement, thereputationofthesepla-ces of learning have grown significantly in re-cent years,” says Dr Felicity Coughlan, Direct-or of the Independent Institute of Education.

Coughlan saysthere has also been amarked drop in thepreviously stubborn– but false – percep-tion about compara-tive standards be-tween public and pri-vate institutions.

“The public has be-come more aware ofthe fact that all regis-teredinstitutions,re-gardless of sector, are required to meetthe stringent HigherEducation QualityCouncil accredita-tion requirements,as well as the equallystringent and oner-ous registration re-quirementsof theDe-partment of HigherEducation andTraining,” she says.

“The recent focuson the constrainedadmissions in thepublic higher educa-tion sector has gener-ated much debate

aboutalternatives forstudents. It isabsolutelycorrect that the FET sector is one that is oftenoverlooked by school leavers, and equally truethat within the higher education sector, quali-fications other than degrees are insufficientlyconsidered.

“Absent from the debate, however, has beenrecognition of the fast growing – in size andreputation – private higher education sector. As with private schooling, and as in many de-veloping economies throughout the world, theprivate higher education sector in South Afri-ca provides exciting further study options forprospective students, and dramatically in-creases the scope of access.”

Coughlan says that the experience at all ofthe campuses of The Independent Institute ofEducation and many other private providers,is that students have come to understand thevalue offered in the private sector and activelyseek the smaller campuses, flexible moderncurricula, innovative teaching and learning, models of student support and student life andfocus on the individual that can characteriseprivate higher education campuses.

She notes that, by its nature, private highereducation will in some instances be compara-tively more expensive than public higher edu-cation, as the Government has not moved inthe same direction as other developing coun-tries – such as Botswana – to fund the sectorto make its offering more widely accessible.

However, it would clearly be a fallacy to be-lieve that quality is measured by the extentto which the taxpayer funds education, shesays, and a direct fee comparison does not takeintoaccount theothervaluepropositionssuchas student support and high success rates dur-ing and after study. The suitability of the envi-ronment for particular students is not deter-mined by who paid to build it, she says.

“Many public institutions in SA are leadersin the field of research and others focus onquality teaching or are excellent universitiesof technology. However, that does not equateto them being the right environment for allstudents and all courses.

“To make the right decision about where, what and how to study, prospective studentsmuststartresearchingandreceiving informa-tion about all their options, in a context whichdoesnotcontinuetopandertohistoricmiscon-ceptions,” she says.
