Global e-commerce industry, driven by the rapidly rising internet penetration, attractive discounts and more efficient delivery networks, is expected to grow faster this year with the introduction of new technologies, like 5-G.

According to data released by Canada-based e-commerce platform Shopify and Germany-based Statista, global retail e-commerce revenue is expected to hit US$4.5 trillion to US$4.9 trillion by 2021.

The UK Office for National Statistics has even predicted that 95% of purchases will be made online by 2040 with consumers increasingly relying on online shopping.

Citing Statistics, Shopify Plus has reported that Asia tops the world in terms of online sales in 2019 with US$831.7 billion, followed by North America’s US$552.6 billion, Europe’s US$346.5 billion, Australia’s US$18.6 billion, Africa and the Middle East’s US$18.6 billion and South America’s US$17.7 billion.

A further breakdown shows China ranks first in the world’s10 biggest e-commerce markets. Led by e-commerce subsidiaries of Alibaba group, including Taobao, Alibaba.com, Tmall and others, China is projected to receive US$740 billion worth of online sales.

After reigning the e-commerce world for more than a decade, the U.S., led by e-commerce giants like Amazon and eBay, is currently the world’s second largest e-commerce country with US$561 billion in annual online sales.

The United Kingdom makes it to third place with US$93

billion, despite its small size, while Japan ranks fourth with US$87 billion.

Germany ranks fifth with US$77 billion, though it is Europe's second largest e-commerce market after the UK. South Korea comes in sixth with US$69 billion, followed by France’s US$55 billion, Canada’s US$44 billion, Russia’s US$19 billion and Brazil’s US$16 billion.

Shopify Plus noted that by 2023, retail e-commerce sales in Asia-Pacific are projected to be greater than the rest of the world combined. This is due to (1) rapid urbanization and technological advancements, (2) more than 85% of new middle-class growth residing in APAC, and (3) a host of government and private-led initiatives in China.

Platforms, there are five major trends in 2019.

1. Personalization and Customer EngagementCompared to traditional retail shopping, online stores do

not have a retail clerk who can recommend products based on your interests, tastes, and preferences. To mimic this experience, e-commerce companies leverage personalization opportunities throughout the shopping journey. Using personal online data such as search queries, page visits, and purchase history, brands transform their online stores to best serve the customer’s needs and interests, according to Ecommerce Platforms.

2. AI, Assistants & ChatbotsArtificial intelligence (AI) plays an important role in the

e-commerce market as it does to other sectors. While AI assistants can handle a number of tasks typically assigned to a human, such as managing inventory or handling inquiries, chatbots can fulfil a number of customer service needs, from answering questions about a product to discussing a complaint. AI and chatbots also learn from customer conversations and evolve to better assist in a user’s personalized e-commerce experience.

3. B2B E-commerce Is ExplodingIn a survey of 500 B2B organizations, BigCommerce found

that 80% accepted orders and payment via their website, further proving the growth of e-commerce in B2B industries moving forward. Research also found that 50% B2B buyers desired personalization when searching for online suppliers with whom to build relationships, according to Ecommerce Platforms.

4. Interactive Product VisualizationInteractive product visualization technology, such as

virtual reality, 3D imaging, augmented reality and more seeks to bring the tangible in-store experience to online consumers and alleviate their hesitation prior to purchasing. It enables them to interact with a product from the comfort of their smartphones.

5. More Custom Retail ExperiencesWhile interactive product technology, personalization, and

chatbots all work to replicate that feeling online, no technology can truly replace every detail of an in-store experience. This explains why Amazon is launching stores, named “4-Star,” throughout the US. At these stores, one can interact with Amazon’s devices and top products in person.

更將到達7,400億美元。而在電子商務市場領先全球超過十年的美國,在亞馬遜和eBay等電子商務巨擘的領頭下,今年預計市場規模將到達5,610億美元,是目前全球排名第二大的電子商務國家;英國儘管規模較小,仍以930億美元排名第三;日本則以870億美元排名第四;德國以770億美元排名第五;韓國以690億美元排名第六;之後是法國的550億美元、加拿大的440億美元、俄羅斯的190億美元和巴西的160億美元。

Shopify Plus表示,基於「城市化規模快速成長和技術的進步」、「亞太地區居住超過85%的新中產階級」及「中國政府與民間公司的推廣」三大關鍵,到2023年,亞太地區的零售電子商務銷售額預計將超過世界其他地區的總和。

以回答有關商品的各項問題,更進一步可以受理客訴。AI和聊天機器人可以從客戶對話中學習,並協助消費者發展更完善的

個性化電子商務體驗。

3. B2B電子商務仍快速成長在針對500家B2B服務的公司調查中,BigCommerce發現

有80%的人透過他們的網站接受了訂單和付款,進一步證明了B2B商業模式仍維持快速成長。Ecommerce Platforms研究發現 ,有50%的B2B買家希望與供應商能有更具個人化的消費體驗。
