The film opens with a title sequence which has transitions on each title leading on to the next this makes the titles

that are appearing seem smooth and well presented to the audience. A graphic match is used on all of the characters when being introduced, they’re shown in real life then a drawing in a book, this suggests to the audience that all

the characters are part of a story and it’s going to be told through out the film

The director uses a cross cut between the protagonist running and the horse and carriage, this creates tension and enigma codes to what’s going on

After the title sequence various different shot types are used, the mise en scene opens with a tracking shot of a horse carriage an other element of the past, the opening establishes the setting which is London with long shots framing iconic landmarks of Lon like Trafalgar square, the audience then recognise the location quickly.

Sherlock Holmes opens with an action scene where two of the main characters are introduced to as partners, the audience know this because they save each others life‘s this suggests the narrative will revolve around their partnership and equilibrium

Also the antagonist is introduced to by being captured by the protagonist alongside the police, the antagonist is portrayed as being a possessed magician that the protagonist has to capture

Sherlock Holmes The Font used in the opening title sequence of Sherlock Holmes is serif, serif font associates the audience with the past and since the story of Sherlock Holmes is set in 1800’s the producer has applied this to the titles. Also the type of writing is written with an ink pen on paper this is also is associated with the past and links in with the old theme.

The film is a remake of the story of Sherlock Holmes by  Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. A London-based "consulting detective” whos use of forensic science skills to solve difficult cases.

Sherlock is set in 1800’s England, the mise en scene makes this clear to the audience by the costuming, transport and characters used, for example horses and carriage, top hats and accents
