• Arts Camp • Can be undetaken as long as students have taken an Arts course during the year as a prerequisite. The camp is an accredited program which counts towards courses for graduation.

Year 9 DANCEFitness, fun and performance! Learn intermediate dance techniques such as turn, kicks combos, leaps and traveling patterns in multiple different genres contemporary, jazz and hip-hop. Build an understanding of foundations and choreographic concepts and have multiple opportunities for live performance, both at the school theatre and professional venues as well as an excursion to a live professional dance performance.Year 10 DANCE (Semester 1)We will explore jazz, street and hip hop. Invited guest artists will come into the class to improve your techniques. You will be given the opportunity to perform and view live performances. Bepreparedtobefitter,stronger,moreconfidentanduponstage– this is a performance art! This is a single semester unit.

Year 10 DANCE ENRICHMENT (Semester 2)You will learn contemporary, jazz and hip hop technique, as well as choreographic techniques. Practical lessons will culminate in performance both in the school theatre and professional theatres. The theory component centres on understanding and critiquing professional contemporary dance works. The course entails technologyintegrationwhereyouwilllearnmusicmixingandfilmprojection.

Year 11 CERTIFICATE 2 in DANCEThe Certificate 2 Dance course is a practically based coursewhere you will develop your physical competencies in dance through techniqueexplorationand refinement.Youwill developyour ability to work in teams as well as your leadership skills, through choreography and performance. You will incorporate artistic expression into dance performances and develop creative arts industry knowledge.

Year 12 CERTIFICATE 3 in DANCEn entertainment.

The Certificate 3 in Assistance Dance Teaching course isprovided to meet the learning needs of the experienced and accomplished dancer. Students will refine their performanceand dance techniques in commercial and contemporary genres, develop music ideas and listening skills and an understanding of the roles and expectations of assistant dance teachers. Pre-requisite:technicalproficiencyinatleastonegenreandabasicawarenessofasecond.Anappropriate levelofphysicalfitnessand an ability to retain and sequence movement material.arts industry knowledge.

Year 9 DRAMAStudents learn essential performance skills in voice and movement. Through the study of Commedia dell Arte andMelodrama students progress improvisation skills, story-telling and learn stage combat in this physically active, creative subject. This course builds on existing knowledge and prepares students for further Drama study. Students will have the opportunityto participate in the whole-school production and The ArtsShowcase-PULSE.

Year 10 DRAMA 1 (Semester 1)Students study script based works, improvisation, and key historical figures and concepts of Drama. The conventionsof these dramatic forms help students grow their range of performanceskills invoiceandmovement. Drama isahighlyactive course requiring dedication and self-discipline. Students may attend a range of theatrical performances and participate in whole-school productions whilst learning to work in a team of backstage and onstage roles.

Year 10 DRAMA 2 (Semester 2)Drama students continue to develop their understandings ofvoice and movement techniques enriching their performance repertoire. Students study texts from Bertolt Brecht, the Theatre of theAbsurd andRealism, and learn about the developmentofAustralianDrama. Therewillbeopportunities toattend thetheatre and to work with practising professionals in the performing arts. Students continue to develop their creative capabilities in using the lighting and sound equipment and learn how to realise this creative vision in production.

Year 11 ATAR DRAMAStudents develop their understandings of this vibrant and active art form, engage in drama processes such as improvisation, play-building, text interpretation, playwriting and dramaturgy which allows them to create original drama and interpret a range of texts written or devised by others. Their work in this course includes production and design aspects and increasingly, students use technologies such as digital sound and multimedia. They present drama to a range of audiences and work in different

performance settings.its 1 & 2 . Year 12 ATAR DRAMA Unit Three - The

focus for this pair of units is to reinterpret dramatic texts, context,

forms and styles for contemporary audiences through applying

theoretical and practitioner approaches. Students work on the

reinterpretation of text, participate in backstage roles for the

wholeschoolproductionandmay takepart in theATARNIDA

Tour to Sydney. The DramaATAR course builds confidence,

empathy, understanding about human experience, and a sense

of identity and belonging. These are invaluable qualities for

contemporary living.

Year 9 PHOTOGRAPHYThis unit is an introduction to the foundations of Photography. Students will learn to handle small digital cameras and experiment with photographic composition. Students demonstrate their understanding through a variety of interesting photographic tasks that bring out their creative response to the concepts learned. Photography encourages students to print and exhibit their best images as part of the course.Year 10 PHOTOGRAPHY -Traditional Darkroom (Semester 1) This one semester course focuses on the art of photography using traditional camera and darkroom processing materials and equipment. Students develop understanding of photographic principles; this is an excellent foundation for any serious photographer. Year 10 PHOTOGRAPHY- Analogue & digital (Semester 2)

This semester long course integrates both analogue and digital photography. Students aim to produce images that are technicallyprecise.DigitalphotographyandPhotoshopimagemanipulation is combined with studio technique in this fusion of creativity, experimentation and precision.Year 11 ATAR- DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHYThis course relates to product & cultural design. It is a digital course where students learn how a design can transmit the values and beliefs of different groups of people. Students create products for a client with an understanding of message and meaning and also examine visual language. Students develop focussed skills in digital technologies and Photoshop software.

Year 11 GENERAL DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHYStudents are equipped with fundamentals for personal design. StudentsgainanintroductiontodigitalphotographyandDesigntheory. This includes design elements, principles and the design process. Students will develop skills in digital technologies and Photoshop software.

Year 12 ATAR DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHYCommercial&InfluentialDesign:adigitalcoursethatfocuseson how society communicates values in contexts. The communication of political ideals, messages, information and values on behalf of a client is a part of this course. Students develop high-end skills in digital technologies and Photoshop software.Year 12 GENERAL DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHYAdigitalphotographycourse,thefocusisonhowDesigncancreate and maintain a sense of identity for the individual and different groups of people who share common values, attitudes, beliefs, behaviour and needs. YEAR 9 MEDIAThis is a fun, practical semester long unit focusing on the development of Media skills and Media language. Students will make film productions and learn film production techniques.Students will learn about the media saturated world in which they live. Students also maintain a journal for ideas and the documentation of media production processes.YEAR 10 MEDIA PRODUCTIONThe central focus of Year 10 Media production is to provide students with the skills and knowledge to perform a broad range of functions inmedia,whichmayincludejournalism,radio,filmandtelevisionproduction. Students work independently and in teams to develop their talents and abilities as required by the media industry. This course is highly recommended for students considering enrolling in Year 11 Media courses.YEAR 10 FILM MAKINGStudents enhance their skills in camera operation, audio recording andediting.TheylearnAdobeAfterEffectsskillstocreateinnovativespecial effects pieces and GarageBand to manipulate sound. Students study popular culture: and engage with complex media language to deconstruct and create television shows. Through learning about journalism, students analyse representations, photojournalism, iconic images and undertake study into the representation of groups and issues within media work.

YEAR 11 GENERAL MEDIA PRODUCTION & ANALYSIS Students studyMassMedia and develop the filming and editingskills required to construct and deconstruct narratives. Students also explore how point of view is constructed in media texts. Throughout the year students learn practical graphic manipulation skills using Adobe Photoshop, sound manipulation usingGarageBandandfilmcreationusingAdobePremiere.

Year 9 MUSICThe course focuses on consolidating basic music literacy skills and developingperformanceconfidence.Therearetwooptions-eitherone period per week or two periods per week, both of which are year long. To continue with SIM based lessons students must be enrolled in one of these options and be involved in at least one school based large ensemble.Year 10 MUSIC (Single period)This is a single period, year long class which runs before school and is suited to students interested in the endorsed unit (PIMS) inYear11&12ortheYear11Certificate2inMusicinYear11.StudentsconsideringATARwillneedtoenrolinthe10CMusiccourse. Students continue with a large school based ensemble and their instrumental lesson.

Year 10 MUSIC This four period a week, year long course allows students to select either/boththeMusicATARortheCertificate2inMusicandIndustryin Year 11. Students continue with instrumental lessons (private or SIM), participate in a large ensemble and perform at the music

nights.

Year 11 ATAR MUSIC final

ThecoursefocusisWesternArtMusic,butstudentscanstudytheir

instrumentinadifferentcontext-eitherWesternArt,Contemporary,

Jazz or Musical Theatre. Students may choose a different instrument

as their main study if they learn a second instrument privately. The

course is divided into 50% from the instrumental music and 50%

from the written component.

Year 11 CERTIFICATE 2 in MUSICThecertificatecourseisanAustraliawiderecognizedqualificationof one year duration. Students focus on developing skills on their chosen instrument and there is opportunity to create small

ensembles which rehearse during class sessions.

Year 12 ATAR MUSIC finalTheclassfocusremainsonWesternArtMusic.Studentsselecttheir

performancecontext for theWACEpractical -eitherWesternArt,

Contemporary, Jazz or Musical Theatre. Performance recitals are

longer and the compulsory genre changes.

Year 12 CERTIFICATE 3 in MUSIC final

This qualification is a pathway for students who have already

completed theCertificate II inMusic Industry inYear 11, or have

completedATARyear11andcandemonstratecompetenceonone

ormoreinstruments.Thequalificationreflectstheroleofindividuals

who apply a broad range of competencies in a varied work context

in the music industry, using some discretion, judgement and

theoretical knowledge. Units to be studied include a focus on

improving performance skills, music styles and genres, including

general composition skills.

Year 9 VISUAL ARTThis highly practical, fun, one semester course provides students with a variety of art studio 2D & 3D experiences.The course helps students build their confidence in the artsthrough developing their skills and techniques in drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and printmaking. AJournal will also be used for presentation & assessment.

Year 10 VISUAL ART AStudents refine their practice in the arts by further developingskills in drawing, painting and sculpture. Though greater awareness of compositional techniques students are able to gain greater success through effective communication of visual language. Students begin to improve their articulation of viewing and discussing artworks.Year 10 VISUAL ART BThefocusofthisunitisFineArts,encouragingartisticexcellence.Studentslearneffectivedesigndevelopmentprocesses,finishingtechniques, critical analysis, art history and investigation writing skills.TheyearlongprogramservesasdirectpreparationforATARVisualArtcourseandishighlyrecommendedasaprerequisite.

Year 11 ATAR VISUAL ARTStudents consider differences arising from cultural diversity, place, gender, class and historical period in their art making and interpretation. There is an equal focus and preparation on practical and written examinations. Students also explore identity issues related to personal, social, cultural or gender in their art making and interpretation.

Year 11 GENERAL VISUAL ARTThis course focuses on art making and interpretation based on personal life experiences. Students also explore their local environment for art ideas and inspiration. The course has a 70% focusonpractical artmaking,with30%ofartwritingand

responding.

Year 12 ATAR VISUAL ART Recommendedfor Students explore and respond to two themes; Commentaries and

Points of View. There is equal focus and preparation on practical

and written external examinations. Students engage with social

and cultural purposes of art making and interpretation. Students

also research the works of Contemporary, Australian and

International artists, developing personal responses related to the

two themes.

Year 12 GENERAL VISUAL ART ntertainment

The course promotes innovative practice. Students are encouraged

to explore and represent their ideas and gain an awareness of the

rolethatartistsanddesignersplayinreflecting,challengingand

shaping societal values. Students are encouraged to appreciate

the work of other artists and engage in their own art practice.
