ABSTRAK
Pengendalian Mesin Pemilah Kentang Berdasarkan Berat Berbasis Mikrokontroller Arduino Uno
Lasmini Puspita Sari
Kentang merupakan salah satu jenis tanaman umbi yang dapat memproduksi makanan bergizi lebih banyak dan lebih cepat, namun membutuhkan hamparan lahan sedikit dibandingkan dengan tanaman lainnya. Kentang memiliki ukuran yang berbeda-beda ada yang besar dan ada yang kecil. Kehidupan sehari-hari masih banyak sistem yang masih banyak mempergunakan tenaga manusia sehingga membutuhkan waktu yang relatif lebih lama. Pada kenyataan para pedagang kentang umumnya tidak dapat memilah kentang berdasarkan berat.bedasarkan hal tersebut akan dirancang dan dibuat alat pemilah kentang berdasarkan berat. Pembuatan alat ini mengunakan sensor Load Cell sebagai pengukur beban berat kentang. Hasil bacaan dari sensor Load cell akan ditampilkan ke LCD kemudian sensor mengirim data ke mikrokontroler Arduino uno. Untuk menjalankan konveyor mengunakan motor DC.

BAB I
PENDAHULUAN
1.1 Latar Belakang
Kentang merupakan tanaman sayuran yang dikonsumsi umbinya . Kentang segar
adalah umbi kentang dalam keadaan utuh, bersih dan segar. Kentang dengan
pergolongan 4 macam ukuran berat toleransi diatas dan dibawah, ukuran berat masing
masing 5% (bobot) maksimum.Menurut ukuran berat kentang tergolong dalam 4
pergolongan; kecil 50 gram kebawah, sedang 51 -100 gram, besar 101 – 300 gram
dan sangat besar 301 keatas [SNI 01- 3175- 1992]
Kentang berada pada peringkat ke tiga tanaman yang dikonsumsi masyarakat
dunia setelah beras dan gandum (International Potato Center, 2013). Kentang
mempunyai karbohidrat dan kadar air yang cukup tinggi, sumber vitamin C, dan B1,
serta beberapa mineral seperti fosfor, kalium, dan zat besi, Direktorat Teknologi
Pengolahan Hasil Hortikultura (2004).
Selama ini produktifitas kentang di Indonesia masih tergolong rendah,
perlunya teknologi dan inovasi diharapkan mampu menunjang produktifitas dan
menghasilkan keuntungan optimal. Hasil olahan kentang yang sering dijumpai antara
lain, perkedel, donat kentang, dodol kentang, kentang goreng, kripik kentang, dan
chip kentang. (Ir.Rahmat Rukmana, 1997).

Pemasok kebutuhan kentang segar untuk pasar industri, supermarket, dan
sebagainya. Harus dilandasi dengan SNI 01-3175-1992. Dengan alasan, memasok di
supermarket hanya mengenal kelompok atau kelas A dan AB yang perkilogramnya
hanya berisi 4-8 buah saja. Perlu diketahui kentang ada 4 kelas (bukan verietas),
yakni kelas A dengan jumlah 4-5 buah per kg, kelas B dengan jumlah 6–7 buah per
kg, kelas C dengan jumlah 8-10 buah per kg, dan kelas D dengan jumlah 11-14 buah
per kg. berdasarkan latar belakang yang telah dituliskan bahwa pengelompokan atau
4 kelas kentang sesuai dengan berat SNI 01-3175-1992 yang telah ditentukan yang
memiliki 4 golongan berat yang berbeda beda.
Kehidupan sehari - hari masih banyak sistem yang masih mempergunakan
tenaga manusia sehingga membutuhkan waktu yang relatif lebih lama, sebagai
contohnya dapat dilihat dalam penyeleksian kentang bedasarkan beratnya. Pada
dasarnya sistem ini masih banyak memiliki kekurangan dalam mempergunakan
tenaga manusia. Alat yang masih digunakan satu tempat penampungan masih satu
tempat, menyebabkan kentang yang dipilahkan tertupuk pada satu tempat satu sama
yang lain pada konveyor tersebut sehingga tidak sesuai dengan berat kentang yang
menyebabkan dilakukan pemilihan ulang.
Dari fenomena di atas, ada dorongan yang kuat bagi penulis untuk merancang
dan membuat suatu mesin pemilah kentang ini baik hanya sebagai kontrol maupun
merupakan suatu sistem mekanik yang terkontrol. Kainginan Untuk menciptakan

sesuatu yang canggih dan otomatis semakin meningkat dengan tujuan agar dapat
tercipta berbagai kemudahan yang dapat membantu berbagai kegiatan manusia.
Dalam perancangan alat ini penulis mengunakan satu konveyor dengan 4
tempat penampungan yaitu bedasarkan berat kentang agar tidak tertumpuk satu
sama lain dengan diatur dan dikontrol dengan menggunakan minimum sistem
Mikrokontroler Arduino.
Dari permasalahan yang tergambar diatas, penulis bermaksud mencoba
merancang dan membuat suatu alat pemilah kentang. Sehingga dengan demikian
penulis akan mencoba untuk mengajukan ide tersebut yang dirancang dalam bentuk
tugas Akhir yang berjudul : “Pengedalian mesin Pemilah Kentang Berdasarkan
Berat Berbasis Mikrokontroler Arduino uno”
1.2 Rumusan Masalah
Dalam penulisan tugas akhir ini penulis mengemukakan beberapa pokok
permasalahan yang diharapkan nantinya dapat ditemukan solusi pemecahan
masalahnya. Pokok permasalahannya antara lain;
1. Bagaimana mengaplikasikan Load cell sebagai pengukur berat.
2. Bagaimana cara kerja alat pemilah kentang tersebut yaitu dengan berdasarkan
klasifikasi berat (gram) sesuai dengan ketentuan SNI 01-3175-1992?
3. Bagaimana cara mengatur atau mengontrol suatu alat pemilah kentang tersebut
dengan mengunakan mikrokontroler Arduino uno?

1.3 Tujuan
Adapun tujuan yang ingin dicapai dalam penulisan tugas akhir ini adalah :
1. Dapat mendiskripsikan prinsip kerja alat pemilah Kentang berdasarkan berat
(gram) dengan mengunakan mikrokontroler Arduino.
2. Dapat mengetahui dan menjalankan proses dari alat pemilah kentang yang telah
dibuat dengan mengunakan mikrokontroler Arduino uno.
3. Mengetahui proses dan cara kerja mikrokontroler Arduino yang digunakan
sebagai alat pembuatan alat pemisah kentang tersebut.
4. Dapat memberikan kemudahan kepada setiap orang untuk pemilah kentang yang
dilakukan dan Mempermudah kentang yang hendak dipisahkan berdasarkan
berat yang telah ditentukan.
1.4 Ruang Lingkup dan Batasan Masalah
Agar pembahasan mengenai tugas Akhir lebih terarah dan fokus, Maka penulis
memberi batasan terhadap tugas akhir ini yaitu:
1. Berapa macam berat kentang yang akan terbaca oleh sensor Load Cell?
2. Bagaimana mengendalikan pintu pemilah kentang saat pengukuran berlangsung?
3. Bagaimana perubahan tahanan dan tegangan saat perubahan berat pada load cell?
4. Berapa kecepatan motor DC untuk mengerakkan konveyor untuk masuk kepintu
pemilah kentang?

1.5 Sistematika Laporan
Untuk mengetahui gambaran dari judul tugas akhir ini, maka penyusuanan
laporan tugas akhir disusun dalam bentuk sub-sub Bab, adapun sistematika Laporan
adalah sebagai berikut :
1. Bab I. Pendahuluan: Bab ini membahas penjelasan tentang latar belakang,
tujuan, perumusan masalah, batasan masalah, manfaat, metode penyelesaian TA
dan sistematika penulisan.
2. Bab II. Tinjauan Pustaka: Bab ini berisi penjelasan teoritis tentang
“pengendalian mesin pemilah Kentang bedasarkan beratnya dengan mengunakan
mikrokontroler Arduino uno”
3. Bab III. Perencanaan Dan Pembuatan Alat: Bab ini membahas tentang
perencanaan dari alat yang dibuat seperti : deskripsi kerja, perencanaan mekanik
alat, perencanaan program dari mikrokontroler.
4. Bab IV. Pengujian Dan Analisa: Bab ini Membahas hasil pengujian alat dan
menganalisa hasil percobaan dari alat tersebut.
5. Bab V. Kesimpulan Dan Saran: Bab ini menguraikan kesimpulan dan saran dari
hasil penelitian yang telah penulis lakukan

BAB II
LANDASAN TEORI
2.1 Mikrokontroler
Mikrokontroler merupakan keseluruhan sistem komputer yang dikemas menjadi
sebuah chip di mana di dalamnya sudah terdapat Mikroprosesor, I/O Pendukung,
Memori bahkan ADC yang mempunyai satu atau beberapa tugas yang spesifik,
berbeda dengan Mikroprosesor yang berfungsi sebagai pemrosesan data (Budiharto,
2004).
Cara keja mikrokontroller
Prinsip kerja mirokontroller adalah sebagai berikut:
1. Bedasarkan nilai yang berada pada register program counter, mikroontroller
mengambil data pada ROM dengan address sebagaimana nilai yang tertera pada
program counter. Selanjutnya program counter ditambah nilainya dengan1
(instrument) secara otomatis. Data yang diambil tersebut adalah urutan instruksi
program pengendali mikrokontroller yang sebelumnya telah dibuat oleh pemakai.
2. Instruksi tersebut diolah dan dijalankan. Proses pengerjaan bergantung pada jenis
instruksi: bisa membaca, mengubah nilai-nilai pada register, RAM, isi port, atau
melakukan pembacaan dan dilanjutkan dengan pengubahan data.

3. program counter telah berubah nilainya (baik karena penambahan otomatis
sebagaimana pada langkah 1 diatas atau pengubahan pada langkah 2). Selanjutnya
yang dilakukan mikrokontroller adalah menulang kembali siklus ini pada langkah
1. Demikian seterusnya hingga power dimatikan.
Dari pengertian diatas dapat disimpulkan bahwa pada dasarnya unjuk kerja
mikrokontroller sangatlah bergantung pada urutan instruksi yang dijalankanya, yaitu
program yang ditulis di ROM. (rachmad setiawan, 2006)
2.2 Pengenalan Arduino uno
Arduino uno adalah salah satu produk berlabel Arduino yang sebenarnya adalah
suatu papan elektronik yang mengandung mikrokontroller Atmega 328 (sebuah
keeping yang secara fungsional bertindak seperti sebuah computer). Peranti ini dapat
dimanfaatkan untuk mewujudkan rangkaian elektronik dari yang sederhana hingga
kompleks. Pengendalian LED hingga pengontrolan robot dapat di implementasikan
dengan mengunakan papan yang berukuran relatif kecil ini (lihat gambar 1). Bahkan
dengan penambahan komponen tertentu, peranti ini bisa dipakai untuk pemantauan
jarak jauh melalui internet, misalnya penantauan kondisi pesien rumah sakit dan
pengendalian alat-alat dirumah.

Arduino uno mengandung mikroprosesor (berupa Atmel AVR) dan dilengkapi dengan
oscilatorn16MHZ (yang memungkinkan operasi berbasis waktu dilaksanakan dengan
tepat), dan regulator (Pembangkit tegangan ) 5 volt. Sejumlah pin tersedia di papan.
Pin 0 hingga pin 13 digunakan untuk isyarat digital, yang hanya bernilai 0 dan 1. Pin
A0-A5 digunakan untuk isyarat analog. Arduino uno dilengkapi dengan static random-
acces memory (SRAM) berukuran 2KB untuk memegang data, flash memory
berukuran 32KB, dan erasable programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) untuk
menyimpan program.
Adapun data teknis bord arduino UNO adalah sebagai berikut;
1. Mikrokontroller : ATmega328
2. Tegangan Operasi : 5V
3. Tegangan input (recommended) :7-12 V
4. Tegangan Input (limit) : 6-20 V
5. Pin digital I/O :14 (6 diantaranya pin PWM)
6. Pin analog input : 6

8. Arus DC untuk pin 3.3 V : 150 Ma
9. Flash memory : 32 KB dengan 0.5 KB digunakan untuk bootloader
10. SRAM : 2 KB
11. EEPROM : 1 KB
12. Clock Speed : 16 MHz
2.3 Sensor Load Cell
Load cell adalah alat yang mengeluarkan signal listrik proporsional dengan gaya
/ beban yang diterimanya. Load cell banyak digunakan pada timbangan elektronik.
Load cell memiliki tegangan keluarannya sangat kecil yaitu satuan tegangan load cell
adalah mili volt. Load cell memiliki 4 buah kabel dimana dua kabel sebagai eksitasi
dan dua kabel lainnya sebagai sinyal keluaran ke kontrolnya.
2.3.1 Prinsip cara kerja dasar Load cell
Load cell dikelompokan sebagai transduser gaya (force transducer). Alat ini
mengubah gaya atau beban/berat menjadi sinyal elektrik. Strain gage adalah bagian
utama dari load cell. Strain gage adalah sebuah alat yang memiliki nilai tahanan yang
dapat berubah apabila alat mengalami penekanan. (koestoer Artono, 2004)
Gage-gage tersebut terbuat dari lembaran logam yang sangat tipis yang sudah
mengalami pengerjaan panas dan terikat secara kimia pada sebuah lapisan dielektrik

yang tipis. Lalu “gage patches” tersebut terpasang atau diletakkan pada elemen
regang (strain elemen) dengan alat perekat yang telah diformulasikan secara khusus.
Posisi yang sesuai dari gage, prosedur pemasangan (mounting procedure) dan
material yang digunakan semuanya memiliki efek yang dapatdiukur pada cara kerja
keseluruhan dari load cell tersebut. (Koestoer Artono, 2004)
Spesifikasi sensor Load Cell :
1. Kapasitas 1 kg
2. Zero Balance ± 0.1000 mV / V
3. Nilai Output 1.0 ± 0.15mV / V
4. Tegangan operasi maksimum 10V
Konfig kabel :
Input : Merah (Power +), Hitam (Power -)
Output : Hijau (Signal +), Putih (Signal -)

2.4 Modul HX711
Modul HX711 adalah modul yang memudahkan untuk membaca load cell dalam
pengukuran berat. Modul ini berfungsi untuk menguatkan sinyal keluaran dari
sensor dan mengonversi data analog menjadi data digital. Dengan
menghubungkannya ke mikrokontroler, maka dapat membaca perubahan resistansi
dari load cell. Setelah proses kalibrasi akan memperoleh pengukuran berat dengan
keakuratan yang tinggi. Berikut adalah gambar dari bentuk modul HX711adalah
sebagai berikut:

2.5 LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) 16 x 2 karakter
LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) merupakan perangkat display yang paling
umum dipasangkan ke mikrokontroler, mengingat ukurannya yang kecil dan
kemampuan menampilkan karakter atau grafik yang lebih baik dibandingkan
display 7 segment ataupun alpanumerik (Budiharto, 2008).
Pada bab ini aplikasi LCD yang akan digunakan ialah LCD dot matrik dengan
jumlah karakter 16 x 2. LCD sangat berfungsi sebagai penampil yang nantinya akan
digunakan untuk menampilkan status kerja alat.
Adapun fitur yang disajikan dalam LCD ini adalah :
a. Terdiri dari 16 karakter dan 2 baris.
b. Mempunyai 192 karakter tersimpan.
c. Terdapat karakter generator terprogram.
d. Dapat dialamati dengan mode 4-bit dan 8-bit.
e. Dilengkapi dengan back light.
2.5.1 Cara kerja LCD 16 X 2 Karakter
Pada aplikasi umumnya RW diberi logika rendah “0”. Bus data terdiri dari 4-
bit atau 8-bit. Jika jalur data 4-bit maka yang digunakan ialah DB4 sampai dengan
DB7. Sebagaimana terlihat pada table diskripsi, interface LCD merupakan sebuah
parallel bus, dimana hal ini sangat memudahkan dan sangat cepat dalam pembacaan
dan penulisan data dari atau ke LCD. Kode ASCII yang ditampilkan sepanjang 8-bit
dikirim ke LCD secara 4-bit atau 8-bit pada satu waktu, jika mode 4-bit yang

digunakan , maka 2 nibble data dikirim untuk membuat sepenuhnya 8-bit (pertama
dikirim 4-bit MSB lalu 4-bit LSB dengan pulsa clock EN setiap nibblenya), Jalur
kontrol EN digunakan untuk memberitahu LCD bahwa mikrokontroller mengirim
data ke LCD. Untuk mengirim data ke LCD program harus menset EN ke kondisi
high”1” dan kemudian menset dua jalur kontrol lainnya (RS danRW) atau juga
mengirimkan data ke jalur data bus.

2.6 Motor DC
Motor Listrik merupakan alat yang mengubah energi listrik menjadi energi
mekanik, energi mekanik ini digunakan untuk misalnya, memutar impeller pompa,
fan atau blower, menggerakkan kompresor, mengangkat bahan, dan lain-lain. Motor
listrik juga digunakan di rumah (mixer, bor listrik, kipas angin) dan di industry.
Motor DC memerlukan tegangan yang searah, pada kumparan medan untuk dirubah
menjadi energi mekanik.

Kumparan medan pada motor DC disebut stator (bagian yang tidak berputar)
dan kumparan jangkar disebut rotor (bagian yang berputar). Motor DC digunakan
pada penguna khusus dimana diperlukan penyalaan torque / beban motor yang tinggi
atau percepatan yang tetap untuk kisaran kecepatan yang luas.

Gambar diatas merupakan bentuk fisik dari motor DC, motor DC mempunyai tiga
komponen utama yang bentuknya, yaitu:

a. Kutub medan
Motor DC memilikidua kutub medan magnet yaitu kutub utara dan kutub selatan
yang stasioner dan dynamo yang menggerakkan bearing pada ruang diantara
kutub medan.
b. Dinamo
Dinamo pada motor DC berbentu slinder, dihubungkan kearah pengerak untuk
mengerakkan beban. Bila arus masuk menuju dynamo, maka arus ini akan
menjadi elektromaknetik.
c. Commutator
Kegunaan kmponen ini pada motor DC adalah untuk membalikkan arah arus
listrik dalam dynamo, Commutator juga membantu motor DC dalam hal transmisi
arus antara dynamo dan sumber daya.
Keuntungan pengunaan motor DC adalah sebagai pengendalian kecepatan, yang tidak
mempengaruhi kualiitas dan pemasokan daya. Motor DC umumnya dibatasi untuk
pengunaan berkecepatan rendah, pengunaan daya rendah hingga sedang, ini
dikarenakan sering terjadi masalah dengan perubahan arah arus listrik mekanis pada
ukuran yang lebih besar. Motor DC juga relatif lebih murah dari pada motor AC.
Untuk perhitungan putaran (rpm) motor DC menggunakan rumus :

2.6.1Driver motor DC
L298 adalah transistor yang dapat digunakan sebagai driver motor DC. Rangkaian
driver motor DC dengan IC L298D dapat digunakan untuk mengendalikan motor DC
dengan arus maksimum hingga 4A. Dengan IC driver motor DC L298D dapat
digunakan untuk mngendalikan 2 buah motor DC sekaligus secara independent.
Kemampuan tiap driver motor DC dalam IC L298D ini adalah 4A untuk masing-

masing drivernya. Berikut ini bentuk Transistor L298 yang digunakan sebagai driver

2.7 Power supply
Power supply adalah Perangkat elektronik yang dapat merubah tegangan listrik
(AC) yang tinggi menjadi tegangan listrik (DC) yang rendah. Tetapi ada juga adaptor
yang dapat merubah tegangan listrik yang rendah menjadi tegangan listrik yang tinggi.
Accumulator (aki), dan baterai merupakan salah satu contoh penyuplai daya (power
supply). Keuntungan dari adaptor disbanding dengan baterai maupun accumulator

adalah sangat praktis berhubungan dengan ketersediaan tegangan, karena adaptor dapat
di ambil dari sumber tegangan AC yang ada di rumah, dimana pada zaman sekarang
ini setiap rumah sudah menggunakan listrik, selain itu, adaptor mempunyai jangka
waktu yang tidak terbatas jika ada tegangan AC, tegangan AC ini sudah merupakan
kebutuhan primer dalam kehidupan manusia.
2.7.1 Bagian – bagian power supply
Sebuah adaptor yang baik memiliki bagian bagian sebagai berikut:

Penjelasan dari blok diagram diatas adalah :
a. Bagian input tegangan
Input tegangan pada power supply adalah berupa tegangan arus bolak balik (AC)
220V.
b. Bagian step down
Bagian ini berfungsi menurunkan tegangan AC 220v dari bagjan input menjadi
tegangan AC yang lebih rendah misalnya: 5v, 12v. Komponen yang terdapat pada
rangkaian ini adalah:
Transformator atau transformer atau trafo adalah komponenelektromagnet
yang dapat mengubah taraf suatu tegangan ACke taraf yang lain.
c. Bagian Rectifier

Penyearah setengah gelombang (rectifier) adalah bagian dari power supply yang
berfungsi untuk mengubah sinyal tegangan AC (Alternating Current) menjadi
tegangan DC (Direct Current). Komponen utama dalam penyearah gelombang
adalah diode yang di konfigurasikan secara forward bias. Dalam sebuah power
supply tegangan rendah, sebelum tegangan AC tersebut diubah menjadi tegangan
DC, maka tegangan AC tersebut perlu diturunkan mengunakan trafo step down.
d. Bagian Filter
Bagian ini berfungsi menyaring arus DC yang masih berdenyut (atau yang masih
mengandung arus AC) sehingga menjadi rata.
e. Bagian Stabilizer
Bagian ini berfungsi untuk menstabilkan tegangan DC. Komponen yang terdapat
pada bagian ini adalah diode zener dan IC yang di dalamnya berisi rangkaian
regulator atau IC regulator.
f. Bagian Regulator
Regulator adalah rangkaian regulasi atau pengatur tegangan keluaran dari sebuah
catu daya agar efek dari naik atau turunnya tegangan tidak mempengaruhinya
tegangan catu daya sehingga menjadi stabil. Selain untuk menjaga kestabilan
tegangan output regulator juga digunakan untuk mencegah terjadinya hubungan
singkat.
2.8 LED (Light Emiting Dioda)
Menurut Ganti Depari, (1992 H8). LED adalah singkatan dari Light Emiting Dioda,
merupakan komponen yang dapat mengeluarkan emisi cahaya. Pada dasarnya LED itu

merupakan komponen elektronika yang terbuat dari bahan semi konduktor jenis dioda
yang mampu memancarkan cahaya. LED merupakan produk temuan lain setelah
dioda. Strukturnya juga sama dengan dioda. Untuk mendapat emisi cahaya pada
semikonduktor, doping yang pakai adalah galium, arsenic dan phosphorus. Jenis
doping yang berbeda menghasilkan warna cahaya yang berbeda pula.

2.8.1 Prinsip kerja LED
Elektron yang melewati sambungan PN juga mengalami transmisi level energi,
sehingga dioda juga bisa memancarkan radiasi energi juga. Frekuensi dari radiasi
energinya ditentukan oleh struktur Kristal dari bahan semionduktornya dan elemen-
elemen lain yang menyusunnya. Beberapa sambungan semikonduktor terdiri dari
beberapa kombinasi unsur kimia, sehingga bisa memancarkan radiasi energi pada
speaktrum cahaya tampak karena electron mengalami perubahan level energi. Dalam
bahasa sederhananya , sambungan ini bisa memancarkan cahaya ketika mengalami
bias maju (forward bias). Sebuah dioda yang di desain supaya bisa memancarkan
cahaya seperti lampu disebut dengan light emiting diode ( dioda yang memancarkan
cahaya) atau lebih dikenal dengan singkatan LED.

Dioda silikon yang mengalami bias maju menghasilkan panas pada saat elektron
pada didaerah tipe N mengalami rekombinasi antara elektron dan hole ini berada
dalam daerah aktif, dan menghasilkan foton. Proses ini dikenal dengan istilah
elekroluminesocence. Agar foton ini dapat dihasilkan, maka tegangan yang
dihubungkan ke LED harus lebih besar dari tegangan teriernya. Beberapa LED
berwarna memiliki tegangan maju ( forward voltage) sekitar 1V hingga 5V bahkan
lebih.
2.9 Photo Dioda
Photodioda adalah dioda yang bekerja berdasarkan intensitas cahaya. Jika
photodioda terkena cahaya maka photodioda bekerja seperti dioda pada umumnya,
akan tetapi jika tidak mendapatkan cahaya maka photodioda akan berperan seperti
resistor dengan nilai tahanan yang besar sehingga arus listrik tidak dapat mengalir.

Photodioda merupakan sensor cahaya semikonduktor yang dapat mengubah
besaran cahaya menjadi besaran listrik. Photodioda merupakan sebuah dioda dengan
sambungan PN yang dipengaruhi cahaya dalam kerjanya. Cahaya yang dapat
dideteksi oleh photodioda ini mulai dari cahaya infra merah, cahaya tampak, ultra
ungu sampai dengan sinar-X, karena photodioda terbuat dari semikonduktor P-N
junction maka cahaya yang diserap oleh photodioda akan mengakibatkan terjadinya
pergeseran foton yang akan menghasilkan pasangan electron-hole dikedua sisi dari
sambungan.
Photodioda digunakan sebagai penangkap gelombang cahaya yang dipancarkan
oleh infrared, besarnya tegangan atau arus listrik yang dihasilkan oleh photodiode
tergantung besar kecilnya radiasi yang dipancarkan oleh infrared.
2.10. Pneumatik
Udara merupakan sumber daya alam dan sangat mudah didapatkan sehingga
pada realisasi dan aplikasi teknik sekarang ini udara banyak digunakan sebagai
penggerak untuk mengontrol peralatan dan komponen – komponennya yang kita
kenal sekarang ini dengan PNEUMATIK. Pneumatik berasal dari kata yunani:
pneuma = udara. Jadi pneumatic adalah ilmu yang berkaitan dengan gerakan maupun
kondisi yang berkaitan dengan udara.
Perangkat Pneumatik bekerja dengan memanfaatkan udara yang dimampatkan
(compressed air). Dalam hal ini udara yang dimampatkan akan didistribusikan

kepada sistem yang ada sehingga kapasitas sistem terpenuhi. Untuk memenuhi
kebutuhan udara yang dimampatkan, diperlukan compressor (Pembangkit udara
bertekanan). Debit yang diukur adalah m3/menit.

Tekanan udara yang dibutuhkan pada alat pengontrol pneumatic seperti silinder,
katup serta peralatan lainnya adalah 6 bar, supaya efektif dan efisien dalam
pengunaannya (range alat 3-10 bar). Dan untuk memilihara keawetan peralatan
haruslah diperoleh udara kering, yaitu agar tidak terjadi korosi pada pipa saluran
udara, pelumasan yang ada tidak terbawa uap air, tidak terjadi kontaminasi bila udara
mampat langsung kontak dengan produk yang sensitif seperti cat dan makanan.

2.11. Belt Konveyor
Belt conveyor merupakan mesin dengan aksi continu dan dari segi lain termasuk
conveyor yang merupakan bagian penarik fleksibel. Prinsip dasar belt conveyor
adalah memindahkan material atau barang diatas belt yang berjalan dengan
mengunakan motor sebagai sumber tenaga dan diteruskan oleh puli penggerak.
Kemudian idler (komponen pelucur dibawah belt) akan ikut bergerak sebagai
penyangga belt.

Keuntungan Belt Conveyor :
1. Aliran pengakutan berlangsung secara terus menerus, tampa terputus sehingga
kerja lebih maksimal.

2. Cocok digunakan untuk membawa material dalam jumlah besar baik dalam
jarak yang jauh maupun dekat.
3. Dapat membawa material dalam arah yang tanjakan tampa membahayakan
operator jika dibandingkan mengunakan truk atau kareta diatas rel.
Kelemahan belt conveyor :
1. Sabuk sangat peka terhadap pengaruh luar, misalnya timbul kerusakan pada
pinggir dan permukaan belt, sabuk bisa robek karena batuan yang keras dan
tajam atau lepasnya sambungan sabuk 2.
2. Apabila satu saja komponennya tidak berfungsi maka perpindahan material
tidak dapat berjalan.
3. Biaya perawatannya sangat mahal.
2.12 Multimeter
Alat ukur Multimeter adalah sebuah alat ukur elektronik yang mempunyai
multi fungsi yaitu sebagai Amperemeter, Voltmeter dan Ohmmeter. Multimeter ini
digunakan umum oleh para teknisi maupun mahasiswa dalam sebuah laboratorium
elektronika untuk mengukur besarnya tegangan listrik searah, mengukur tegangan
Iistrik bolak-balik, mengukur tahanan, memeriksa komponen-komponen
elektronika dan digunakan sebagai alat bantu pada troubleshooting (mencari

2.12.1 Rangkaian Dasar Amperemeter
Rangkaian amperemeter adalah rangkaian yang berfungsi untuk mengukur
besarnya arus listrik pada sebuah rangkaian listrik dalam hal ini adalah arus searah.
Rangkaian ini menggunakan d'Arsonval meter untuk mengetahui besar arus yang
hendak diukur. Pada rangkaian pembagi arus berlaku Hukum Ohm:

2.12.2 Rangkaian Dasar Voltmeter
Rangkaian voltmeter adalah rangkaian yang berfungsi untuk mengukur
besarnya tegangan suatu komponen atau tegangan suatu titik terhadap titik yang lain
pada rangkaian listrik. Rangkaian voltmeter dapat mengukur besar tegangan searah
maupun tegangan bolak balik.

BAB III
METODE DAN PROSES PENYELESAIAN
3.1 Block Diagram Sistem

Dalam bagian ini akan dibahas perancangan dan pembuatan sistem pemilah
kentang secara otomatis dengan perangkat tambahan yaitu pemisah antara kentang
yang besar dan yang kecil sesuai berat (gram).
3.1.1 Deskripsi Kerja
Pada bagian ini akan membahas secara umum bagaimana sistem kerja dari alat
pemilah kentang berbasis mikrokontroller Arduino ATmega 328.

Pembuatan alat pemilah kentang bedasarkan beratnya ini dimaksudkan untuk
membantu kelancaran proses produksi yaitu dengan cara memisahkan kentang –
kentang secara otomatis. Mula – mula ditentukan klasifikasi beratnya dari kentang
yang hendak dipilahkan lewat keyboard dan ditampilkan ke LCD. Kemudian kentang
– kentang yang akan dipilahkan dilewatkan konveyor untuk dikirimkan ke alat
penimbang. Sebagai sensor berat digunakan sensor load cell sebagai pengukur beban
berat kentang. Berat kentang yang didisplaykan pada LCD. Setelah diperoleh data
beratnya, Kentang tersebut akan didorong menuju ke alat pemilah untuk di pilahkan
bedasarkan klasifikasi berat yang ditentukan, sebanyak empat golongan berat dengan
berat minimum 0,05 kg dan maksimum 0,3 kg, dengan ketelitian 0,001 kg.
Keseluruhan mekanisme alat pemilah kentang ini diatur dan dikontrol dengan
mengunakan minimum sistem mikrokontroler Arduino ATmega 328.
3.2 Perancangan perangkat keras
3.2.1 Sensor Berat (Load cell)
Pada perancangan sensor berat, digunakan sensor load cell yang akan
memisahkan berat kentang yang telah ditentukan (gram). Sensor berat load cell akan
dipasangkan pada mikrokontroller Arduino ATmega 328 untuk diolah datanya
sehingga menghasilkan keluaran data berupa data digital. Kondisi sensor berat pada
alat ini akan selalu aktif, Mikrokontroller akan membaca data dari berat kentang
yang akan dipilahkan. rangkaian sensor berat dapat dilihat pada gambar berikut ini.

3.2.2 Rangkaian Sensor Fotodioda
Pada perancangan alat ini, sensor fotodioda digunakan sebagai sensor jumlah/
penghitung, yang berfungsi menghitung jumlah kentang yang akan masuk ke
pengepakan. Rangkaian sensor penghitung mengunakan komponen yang terdiri atas
fotodioda sebagai penerima cahaya dari led dengan mendeteksi adanya kentang dan
led sebagai pemancar cahaya yang langsung diterima oleh fotodioda. Komponen
lainnya adalah resistor 220 ohm untuk hambatanarus agar LED menyala dalam
keadaan stabil dan resistor 10 Kohm pada fotodioda sebagai penghambat arus yang
mengalir ke mikrokontroller pada saat kondisi fotodioda off (tidak terkena cahaya)
sehingga didapatkan logika high. Prinsip kerja sensor fotodioda pada rancangan
sensor penghitung ini adalah nilai resistansinya akan bekurang apabila terkena
cahaya. Rancangan sensor penghitung pada alat ini yaitu dengan memasang fotodioda
dan led secara berhadapan dengan jarak antara fotodioda dan led led yaitu 9 cm pada
pada masing – masing 3 buah pintu dan 10 cm untuk 1 pintu. Berikut gambar
rangkaian sensor penghitung dapat dilihat pada gambar berikut ini.

Pembacaan sensor photodiode di inputkan pada kentang. Photodiode akan
selalu aktif pada dua kondisi terhalang dan tidak terhalang. Pada saat kondisi
terhalang mikrokontroler akan diberikan logika high sehingga counter akan
menghitung (+1) dan tampil pada LCD. Sedangkan tidak terhalang counter tidak
menghitung atau tetap pada hitungan sebelumnya dan LCD tidak menghitung.

3.2.3 Rangkaian LCD 16x2 Karakter
Penggunaan LCD pada alat ini adalah untuk menampilkan keluaran dari system
yang dibuat. LCD yang di gunakan adalah LCD 16x2 maka karakter yang bisa
ditampilkan hanya dua baris yang masing-masingnya berjumlah 16 karakter, LCD
memiliki 7 pin saluran yang dikontrol langsung dari pin IC Arduino. Rangkaian
skematik LCD dapat dilihat pada gambar berikut ini.

3.2.4 Pneumatik untuk Penggerak Pintu
Pada sistem alat ini untuk pengepakan mengunakan pneumatik Dengan
menggerakkan pintu pemilah yang telah diatur dengan mengunakan relay, maka pintu
akan berputar sesuai derjat yang telah ditentukan. Dalam perancangan pintu yang
telah dikendalikan mengunakan relay. Dimana Komponen relay menggunakan
prinsip elektromagnetik sebagai penggerak kontak saklar, sehingga dengan
menggunakan arus listrik yang kecil atau low power, dapat menghantarkan arus listrik
yang memiliki tegangan lebih tinggi.
Perangkat Pneumatik bekerja dengan memanfaatkan udara yang dimampatkan
(compressed air). Dalam hal ini udara yang dimampatkan akan didistribusikan
kepada sistem yang ada sehingga kapasitas sistem terpenuhi. Untuk memenuhi
kebutuhan udara yang dimampatkan, diperlukan compressor (Pembangkit udara
bertekanan). Debit yang diukur adalah m3/menit.
Unit pengatur merupakan bagian pokok yang menjadikan sistem pneumatik
termasuk sistem otomasi. Karena dengan unit pengatur inii hasil kerja dari sistem
pneumatik dapat diatur secara otomatis, baik gerakan , kecepatan, urutan gerak, arah

gerakan maupun kekuatannya. Dengan unit pengatur ini sistem pneumatik dapat
didesain untuk berbagai tujuan otomatis dalam suatu mesin pemilah kentang secara
otomatis. Fungsi dari unit pengatur ini adalah untuk mengatur atau pengendalian
jalannya penerusan tenaga fluida hingga menghasilkan bentuk kerja (usaha) yang
berupa tenaga mekanik.
Dalam sistem Pneumatik, Silinder penggerak yang digunakan adalah silinder
kerja ganda. Silinder Kerja Ganda adalah apabila langkah kerja terjadi pada kedua
belah sisi piston. Jadi udara mampat memdorong pada sisi depan maupun sisi
belakang secara bergantian.

3.2.5 Rangkaian Motor DC
Pada sistem alat ini Driver motor DC menggunakan IC L298D, digunakan
untuk mngendalikan 2 unit motor DC secara independent, aplikasi driver motor DC
menggunakan IC L298D seperti pada gambar dibawah ini, dapat digunakan untuk
mengendalikan belt konveyor. Untuk membuat driver motor DC dengan IC L298D
cukup sederhana dan hanya menambahkan dioda dumper untuk tiap driver H-bridge
IC L298D seperti pada gambar rangkaian driver motor DC dibawah. Untuk
menggunakan rangkaian driver motor DC IC L298D dibawah pin enable (EN) untuk
motor 1 (1EN) dan motor 2 (2EN) dihubungkan ke VCC.
Kemudian untuk motor DC 1 dikontrol oleh pin 1A1 dan 1A2 dengan
memberikan logika HIGH atau LOW pada pin tersebut, begitu juga untuk motor DC
2 dengan jalur kontrol adalah pin 2A1 dan2A2. Rancangan motor DC yang
dihubungkan ke mikrokontroller dapat dilihat pada gambar berikut ini.

Rangkaian power supply merupakan sumber tegangan DC bagi rangkaian
mikrokontroller Atmega 328. Rangkaian catu daya memanfaatkan tegangan dari PLN
sebesar 220 Volt AC. Komponen penyusunan perancangan catu daya ini diantaranya
trafo stepdown, diode, kapasitor, potensiometer, dan resistor. Fungsi dari trafo pada
perancangan catu daya ini adalah menurunkan tegangan yang masukkannya dari
sumber 220VAC menjadi 12VAC.

3.3 Pembuatan mekanik
Prinsip kerja dari alat ini adalah kentang yang telah diletakkan satu persatu di
belt konveyor yang sedang berjalan. Sensor berat yang berada pada jalur belt
konveyor akan mendeteksi berat kentang, dimana berat kentang yang telah ditentukan
akan masuk pada pintu 1, pintu 2, dan pintu 3 dan pada lebih berat kentang yang telah
ditentukan maka kentang akan berada pada jalur lurus. Motor DC (pendorong) akan
mendorong kentang. Selanjutnya, sensor fotodioda akan mendeteksi masuknya
kentang, dan akan menghitung kentang satu persatu hingga jumlah yang telah
ditentukan. Berikut gambar design mekaniknya.

Pada alat ini terdapat dua buah motor DC. Prinsip kerja masing masing motor
yaitu, motor DC 1 akan menggerakan belt konveyor, sedangkan motor DC 2 sebagai
pendorong kentang dengan menggerakan pintu pemilah yang akan memindahkan
kentang kedalam pengepakan.

3.4 Perancangan Perangkat Lunak
Secara keseluruhan sistem ini beroperasi dengan menyamakan antara kerja
perangkat lunak dengan perangkat keras. Proses pertama diberikan input sensor berat
(Load cell) untuk mikrokontroller. Untuk proses kedua adalah input sensor Load cell
akan membaca data yang ditimbangkan pada sensor tersebut, data yang di dapatkan,
akan di olah oleh mikrokontroller. Untuk proses ketiga, input sensor berat dijadikan
sebagai pengerak / pengendali pintu dengan mengunakan pneumatik dan berdasarkan
berat yang didapatkan. Dan semua data yang didapatkan akan ditampilkan di LCD.
Untuk menerima input dan mengatur output, maka mikrokontroller memerlukan
sebuah program dan program tersebut membutuhkan sebuah susunan algoritma.
Algoritma program sistem ini adalah sebagai berikut:

3.5 Arduino uno
Pada pembuatan tugas akhir ini alat pendeteksi berat kentang untuk pemilah
mengunakan bahasa pemograman yaitu bahasa C dengan alasan mudah dipahami dan
dirancang karena bahasa C sudah bahasa tingkat tinggi. Coumpiler dilakukan dengan
mengunakan softwere Arduino (IDE).
Setelah perancangan diagram alir, maka selanjutnya adalah pembuatan program
dengan bahasa dan Arduino. Proses pemrograman diawali dengan menulis program
sumber (source code). source code kemudian di-compile dan akan menghasilkan
kode- kode yang dapat dimengerti oleh mikrokontroller. File dengan ekstitensi*.ino
ini yang nantinya akan didownload ke mikrokontroller. Berikut program keseluruhan
dari alat yang dibuat mengunakan program Arduino uno.

HASIL DAN PEMBAHASAN
4.1. Pengujian Alat
Untuk mendapatkan hasil pengukuran, dilakukan pengukuran pada alat
pengukur berat, alat yang dihubungkan dengan power supply dengan masukan 5 volt,
kemudian Alat pengukur berat mengunakan Sensor berat. Sensor berat akan
melakukan kalibrasi dengan HX711, Kemudian pengambilan data dan mengeluarkan
output berupa tampilan pada LCD (Liquit Crystal Display) berdasarkan program pada
mikrokontroller Arduino Atmega 328.
Pada pengujian yang dilakukan dengan menimbang berat pada satuan 1 gram
sampai dengan 300 gram dengan cara memberi beban pada sensor berat, dari beban
yang ringan hingga beban yang terberat dari beban yang ditimbang. Berdasarkan pada
blok diagram sistem, pengukuran dimulai pada sensor load cell kemudian
mikrokontroller, dan mengeluarkan output berupa tampilan pada LCD (Liquit Crystal
Display).

4.2 Pengujian Sensor Load Cell
Pengujian pada sensor dilakukan dengan memberikan beberapa macam berat
pada sensor Load Cell dengan cara memberikan beban pada sensor, yaitu dengan
berat dari 0 gram sampai dengan 300 gram. Untuk mengetahui berapa Vout yang
dihasilkan, maka diukur kaki Vout dari sensor Load cell. Dari penimbang yang terdiri
atas 4 bagian yang dilakukan dengan mengunakan multimeter digital maka
didapatkan hasil sebagai berikut:

4.2.1 Analisa Output pada load cell
Pada beban kecil 39.23 gram terdapat tegangan 452 mV pada sensor load cell
yang diukur. Dan pada beban 37.70 gram tegangan pada Load Cell dan mengalami
kenaikan tegangan sebesar 645 mV. Kemudian pada pengujian dengan beban sedang
83.09 gram terdapat tegangan 568 mV dan pada beban 73.96 gram tegangan pada
Load Cell dan mengalami kenaikan tegangan 438 mV sampai dengan pengukuran
beban besar, dan pada diberikan beban yang lebih besar, dengan beban lebih dari 300
gram. Maka tegangan semakin bertambah. Jadi dapat disimpulkan semakin berat
beban yang diukur semakin tinggi tegangan yang didapatkan.

4.3 Pengujian LCD
Pada tampilan LCD 16x2 ini, dibaris pertama akan menampilkan hasil jenis berat
kentang yang lewat melalui sensor berat (load cell) yaitu perhintungan berat kentang
yang lewat melalui sensor load cell yaitu nilai berat (gram). Sedangkan pada baris
kedua akan menampilkan hasil kentang dan counternya Dengan tampilan sebagai
berikut.

4.4 Pengujian Motor DC

PENUTUP
5.1 Kesimpulan
1. Pada output Load Cell (Sensor berat) pada beban kecil sampai dengan beban
lebih besar mengelami kenaikan tegangan (mV) yang mana data sensor load cell
yang didapatkan dalam pengukuran Dapat disimpulkan semakin berat beban
yang diukur semakin tinggi nilai tegangan output pada sensor Load Cell.
2. Pada tampilan LCD 16x2 dibaris pertama, akan menampilkan hasil jenis berat
kentang yang lewat melalui sensor berat (load cell) yaitu perhintungan berat
kentang yang lewat melalui sensor load cell yaitu nilai berat (gram). Sedangkan
pada baris kedua, akan menampilkan hasil kentang dan counternya

5.2 Saran
1. Untuk pembuatan alat ini hanya sampai dengan pengukuran beban berat
kentang untuk pemilah, untuk selanjutnya alat ini bisa dikembangkan untuk
proses pemilah kentang, langsung untuk paprik kentang maupun untuk
perusahaan yang mengelola kentang dan siap untuk diproduksikan .
2. Untuk sensor berat (Load Cell) sebagai pengukur berat, sensor ini sangat
sensitif terhadap sentuhan atau goncangan pada saat pengukuran beban berat
kentang, dan sensor berat ini harus dikalibrasikan dahulu sebelum melakukan
pengukuran berat kentang.

The Arduino Uno pinout is printed in the silkscreen on the top of the part. While this pinout is a good start, it does not explain the complete story – but it does give a good beginning. At first you use mainly the pins in the female headers at the edge of the board (top and bottom in the photo), plus USB and maybe power
• Tx and Rx are serial UART pins used for RS-232 and USB communications • I2C is another serial communications method using a bidirectional data
line (SDA) and a clock line (SCL) • SPI is another serial communications method using one line for the
master to transmit (MOSI – Master Out Slave In), another for the master to receive (MISO), and a third as a clock (SCK)
• A/D in Analogue to Digital this input converts an analogue voltage in to a digital representation
• PWM (Pulse Width Modulator) is used to create a square wave with a specific duty cycle (high time vs low time)
• ICSP is the In Circuit Serial Programming – another way to program the processor
• Vcc is the voltage supplied to the processor (+5VDC regulated from the higher input voltage)

The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega328 (datasheet). It has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog inputs, a 16 MHz crystal oscillator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started. The Uno differs from all preceding boards in that it does not use the FTDI USB-to-serial driver chip. Instead, it features the Atmega8U2 programmed as a USB-to-serial converter.
"Uno" means one in Italian and is named to mark the upcoming release of Arduino 1.0. The Uno and version 1.0 will be the reference versions of Arduno, moving forward. The Uno is the latest in a series of USB Arduino boards, and the reference model for the Arduino platform; for a comparison with previous versions, see the index of Arduino boards.

The Arduino Uno can be powered via the USB connection or with an external power supply. The power source is selected automatically.
External (non-USB) power can come either from an AC-to-DC adapter (wall-wart) or battery. The adapter can be connected by plugging a 2.1mm center-positive plug into the board's power jack. Leads from a battery can be inserted in the Gnd and Vin pin headers of the POWER connector.
The board can operate on an external supply of 6 to 20 volts. If supplied with less than 7V, however, the 5V pin may supply less than five volts and the board may be unstable. If using more than 12V, the voltage regulator may overheat and damage the board. The recommended range is 7 to 12 volts.
The power pins are as follows:
• VIN. The input voltage to the Arduino board when it's using an external power source (as opposed to 5 volts from the USB connection or other regulated power source). You can supply voltage through this pin, or, if supplying voltage via the power jack, access it through this pin.
• 5V. The regulated power supply used to power the microcontroller and other components on the board. This can come either from VIN via an on-board regulator, or be supplied by USB or another regulated 5V supply.
• 3V3. A 3.3 volt supply generated by the on-board regulator. Maximum current draw is 50 mA. • GND. Ground pins.
The Atmega328 has 32 KB of flash memory for storing code (of which 0,5 KB is used for the bootloader); It has also 2 KB of SRAM and 1 KB of EEPROM (which can be read and written with the EEPROM library).
Each of the 14 digital pins on the Uno can be used as an input or output, using pinMode(), digitalWrite(), and digitalRead() functions. They operate at 5 volts. Each pin can provide or receive a maximum of 40 mA and has an internal pull-up resistor (disconnected by default) of 20-50 kOhms. In addition, some pins have specialized functions:
• Serial: 0 (RX) and 1 (TX). Used to receive (RX) and transmit (TX) TTL serial data. TThese pins are connected to the corresponding pins of the ATmega8U2 USB-to-TTL Serial chip .
• External Interrupts: 2 and 3. These pins can be configured to trigger an interrupt on a low value, a rising or falling edge, or a change in value. See the attachInterrupt() function for details.
• PWM: 3, 5, 6, 9, 10, and 11. Provide 8-bit PWM output with the analogWrite() function. • SPI: 10 (SS), 11 (MOSI), 12 (MISO), 13 (SCK). These pins support SPI communication, which,
although provided by the underlying hardware, is not currently included in the Arduino language.
• LED: 13. There is a built-in LED connected to digital pin 13. When the pin is HIGH value, the LED is on, when the pin is LOW, it's off.
The Uno has 6 analog inputs, each of which provide 10 bits of resolution (i.e. 1024 different values). By default they measure from ground to 5 volts, though is it possible to change the upper end of their range using the AREF pin and the analogReference() function. Additionally, some pins have specialized functionality:
• I2C: 4 (SDA) and 5 (SCL). Support I2C (TWI) communication using the Wire library.
There are a couple of other pins on the board:
• AREF. Reference voltage for the analog inputs. Used with analogReference(). • Reset. Bring this line LOW to reset the microcontroller. Typically used to add a reset button to
shields which block the one on the board.

The Arduino Uno has a number of facilities for communicating with a computer, another Arduino, or other microcontrollers. The ATmega328 provides UART TTL (5V) serial communication, which is available on digital pins 0 (RX) and 1 (TX). An ATmega8U2 on the board channels this serial communication over USB and appears as a virtual com port to software on the computer. The '8U2 firmware uses the standard USB COM drivers, and no external driver is needed. However, on Windows, an *.inf file is required..
The Arduino software includes a serial monitor which allows simple textual data to be sent to and from the Arduino board. The RX and TX LEDs on the board will flash when data is being transmitted via the USB-to-serial chip and USB connection to the computer (but not for serial communication on pins 0 and 1).
A SoftwareSerial library allows for serial communication on any of the Uno's digital pins.
The ATmega328 also support I2C (TWI) and SPI communication. The Arduino software includes a Wire library to simplify use of the I2C bus; see the documentation for details. To use the SPI communication, please see the ATmega328 datasheet.
The Arduino Uno can be programmed with the Arduino software (download). Select "Arduino Uno w/ ATmega328" from the Tools > Board menu (according to the microcontroller on your board). For details, see the reference and tutorials.
The ATmega328 on the Arduino Uno comes preburned with a bootloader that allows you to upload new code to it without the use of an external hardware programmer. It communicates using the original STK500 protocol (reference, C header files).
You can also bypass the bootloader and program the microcontroller through the ICSP (In-Circuit Serial Programming) header; see these instructions for details.
The ATmega8U2 firmware source code is available . The ATmega8U2 is loaded with a DFU bootloader, which can be activated by connecting the solder jumper on the back of the board (near the map of Italy) and then resetting the 8U2. You can then use Atmel's FLIP software (Windows) or the DFU programmer (Mac OS X and Linux) to load a new firmware. Or you can use the ISP header with an external programmer (overwriting the DFU bootloader).
Rather than requiring a physical press of the reset button before an upload, the Arduino Uno is designed in a way that allows it to be reset by software running on a connected computer. One of the hardware flow control lines (DTR) of the ATmega8U2 is connected to the reset line of the ATmega328 via a 100 nanofarad capacitor. When this line is asserted (taken low), the reset line drops long enough to reset the chip. The Arduino software uses this capability to allow you to upload code by simply pressing the upload button in the Arduino environment. This means that the bootloader can have a shorter timeout, as the lowering of DTR can be well-coordinated with the start of the upload.
This setup has other implications. When the Uno is connected to either a computer running Mac OS X or Linux, it resets each time a connection is made to it from software (via USB). For the following half-second or so, the bootloader is running on the Uno. While it is programmed to ignore malformed data (i.e. anything besides an upload of new code), it will intercept the first few bytes of data sent to the board after a connection is opened. If a sketch running on the board receives one-time configuration or other data when it first starts, make sure that the software with which it communicates waits a second after opening the connection and before sending this data.
The Uno contains a trace that can be cut to disable the auto-reset. The pads on either side of the trace can be soldered together to re-enable it. It's labeled "RESET-EN". You may also be able to disable the auto-reset by connecting a 110 ohm resistor from 5V to the reset line; see this forum thread for details.
The Arduino Uno has a resettable polyfuse that protects your computer's USB ports from shorts and overcurrent. Although most computers provide their own internal protection, the fuse provides an extra layer of protection. If more than 500 mA is applied to the USB port, the fuse will automatically break the connection until the short or overload is removed.
The maximum length and width of the Uno PCB are 2.7 and 2.1 inches respectively, with the USB connector and power jack extending beyond the former dimension. Three screw holes allow the board to be attached to a surface or case. Note that the distance between digital pins 7 and 8 is 160 mil (0.16"), not an even multiple of the 100 mil spacing of the other pins.
Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP).

Once you have downloaded/unzipped the arduino IDE, you can Plug the Arduino to your PC via USB cable.

If the producer elects to replace such products, the producer shall have a reasonable time to replacements. Replaced products shall be warranted for a new full warranty period.

1.4 Customer agrees that prior to using any systems that include the producer products, Customer will test such systems and the functionality of the products as used in such systems. The producer may provide technical, applications or design advice, quality characterization, reliability data or other services. Customer acknowledges and agrees that providing these services shall not expand or otherwise alter the producer's warranties, as set forth above, and no additional obligations or liabilities shall arise from the producer providing such services.
1.5 The Arduino products are not authorized for use in safety-critical applications where a failure of the product would reasonably be expected to cause severe personal injury or death. Safety-Critical Applications include, without limitation, life support devices and systems, equipment or systems for the operation of nuclear facilities and weapons systems. 1.6 Customer acknowledges and agrees that it is solely responsible for compliance with all legal, regulatory and safety-related requirements concerning its products and any use of Arduino products in Customer's applications, notwithstanding any applications-related information or support that may be provided by the producer.
2. Indemnification
The Customer acknowledges and agrees to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the producer from and against any and all third-party losses, damages, liabilities and expenses it incurs to the extent directly caused by: (i) an actual breach by a Customer of the representation and warranties made under this terms and conditions or (ii) the gross negligence or willful misconduct by the Customer.
3. Consequential Damages Waiver
In no event the producer shall be liable to the Customer or any third parties for any special, collateral, indirect, punitive, incidental, consequential or exemplary damages in connection with or arising out of the products provided hereunder, regardless of whether the producer has been advised of the possibility of such damages. This section will survive the termination of the warranty period.
4. Changes to specifications
The producer may make changes to specifications and product descriptions at any time, without notice. The Customer must not rely on the absence or characteristics of any features or instructions marked "reserved" or "undefined." The producer reserves these for future definition and shall have no responsibility whatsoever for conflicts or incompatibilities arising from future changes to them. The product information on the Web Site or Materials is subject to change without notice. Do not finalize a design with this information.

11. FUNCTION DESCRIPTION11.1 System Interface
This chip has all two kinds of interface type with MPU : 4-bit bus and 8-bit bus. 4-bit bus and 8-bit bus is selected by DL bit in the instruction register.
11.2 Busy Flag (BF)When BF = “High”, it indicates that the internal operation is being processed. So during this time the next instruction cannot be accepted. BF can be read, when RS = Low and R/W = High (Read Instruction Operation), through DB7 port. Before executing the next instruction, be sure that BF is not high.
11.3 Address Counter (AC)Address Counter (AC) stores DDRAM/CGRAM address, transferred from IR. After writing into (reading from)DDRAM/CGRAM, AC is automatically increased (decreased) by 1. When RS = “Low” and R/W = “High”, AC can be read through DB0 – DB6 ports.
11.4 Display Data RAM (DDRAM)DDRAM stores display data of maximum 80 x 8 bits (80 characters). DDRAM address is set in the addresscounter (AC) as a hexadecimal number.

11.7 Cursor/Blink Control CircuitIt controls cursor/blink ON/OFF at cursor position.
11.8 Outline To overcome the speed difference between the internal clock of ST7066 and the MPU clock, ST7066 performs internal operations by storing control in formations to IR or DR. The internal operation is determined according to the signal from MPU, composed of read/write and data bus (Refer to Table7).Instructions can be divided largely into four groups:
1) ST7066 function set instructions (set display methods, set data length, etc.)2) Address set instructions to internal RAM3) Data transfer instructions with internal RAM4) Others

Recovery time should be 24 hours minimum. Moreover, functions, performance and appearance shall be free
from remarkable deterioration within 50,000 hours under ordinary operating and storage conditions room
temperature (20+8°C), normal humidity (below 65% RH), and in the area not exposed to direct sun light.
13.4 Precaution for using LCD/LCM LCD/LCM is assembled and adjusted with a high degree of precision. Do not attempt to make
any alteration or modification. The followings should be noted.
General Precautions:1. LCD panel is made of glass. Avoid excessive mechanical shock or applying strong
pressure onto the surface of display area.2. The polarizer used on the display surface is easily scratched and damaged. Extreme care
should be taken when handling. To clean dust or dirt off the display surface, wipe gently with cotton, or other soft material soaked with isoproply alcohol, ethyl alcohol or trichlorotriflorothane, do not use water, ketone or aromatics and never scrub hard.
3. Do not tamper in any way with the tabs on the metal frame.
4. Do not make any modification on the PCB without consulting AMOTEC
5. When mounting a LCM, make sure that the PCB is not under any stress such as bending
or twisting. Elastomer contacts are very delicate and missing pixels could result from
slight dislocation of any of the elements.
6. Avoid pressing on the metal bezel, otherwise the elastomer connector could be deformed
and lose contact, resulting in missing pixels and also cause rainbow on the display.7. Be careful not to touch or swallow liquid crystal that might leak from a damaged cell. Any liquid crystal
adheres to skin or clothes, wash it off immediately with soap and water.
Static Electricity Precautions:1. CMOS- LSI is used for the module circuit; therefore operators should be grounded whenever
he/she comes into contact with the module. 2. Do not touch any of the conductive parts such as the LSI pads; the copper leads on the PCB and
the interface terminals with any parts of the human body.

3. Do not touch the connection terminals of the display with bare hand; it will cause disconnection or defective insulation of terminals.
4. The modules should be kept in anti-static bags or other containers resistant to static for storage.5. Only properly grounded soldering irons should be used.6. If an electric screwdriver is used, it should be grounded and shielded to prevent sparks.7. The normal static prevention measures should be observed for work clothes and working
benches. 8. Since dry air is inductive to static, a relative humidity of 50-60% is recommended.
Soldering Precautions: 1. Soldering should be performed only on the I/O terminals.2. Use soldering irons with proper grounding and no leakage.3. Soldering temperature: 280°C+10°C4. Soldering time: 3 to 4 second.5. Use eutectic solder with resin flux filling.6. If flux is used, the LCD surface should be protected to avoid spattering flux.7. Flux residue should be removed.
Operation Precautions:1. The viewing angle can be adjusted by varying the LCD driving voltage Vo.2. Since applied DC voltage causes electro-chemical reactions, which deteriorate the display, the applied pulse waveform should be a symmetric waveform such that no DC component remains. Be sure to use the specified operating voltage.
3. Driving voltage should be kept within specified range; excess voltage will shorten display life.4. Response time increases with decrease in temperature.5. Display color may be affected at temperatures above its operational range.6.Keep the temperature within the specified range usage and storage. Excessive temperature and humidity could cause polarization degradation, polarizer peel-off or generate bubbles.
7. For long-term storage over 40 C is required, the relative humidity should be kept below 60%,and avoid �

What do you have to know?A load cell is a force sensing module - a carefully designed metal structure, with small elements called strain gauges mounted in precise locations on the structure. Load cells are designed to measure a specific force, and ignore other forces being applied. The electrical signal output by the load cell is very small and requires specialized amplification. Fortunately, the 1046 PhidgetBridge will perform all the amplification and measurement of the electrical output.
Load cells are designed to measure force in one direction. They will often measure force in other directions, but the sensor sensitivity will be different, since parts of the load cell operating under compression are now in tension, and vice versa.
How does it work - For curious peopleStrain-gauge load cells convert the load acting on them into electrical signals. The measuring is done with very small resistor patterns called strain gauges - effectively small, flexible circuit boards. The gauges are bonded onto a beam or structural member that deforms when weight is applied, in turn deforming the strain-gauge. As the strain gauge is deformed, it’s electrical resistance changes in proportion to the load.
The changes to the circuit caused by force is much smaller than the changes caused by variation in temperature. Higher quality load cells cancel out the effects of temperature using two techniques. By matching the expansion rate of the strain gauge to the expansion rate of the metal it’s mounted on, undue strain on the gauges can be avoided as the load cell warms up and cools down. The most important method of temperature compensation involves using multiple strain gauges, which all respond to the change in temperature with the same change in resistance. Some load cell designs use gauges which are never subjected to any force, but only serve to counterbalance the temperature effects on the gauges that measuring force. Most designs use 4 strain gauges, some in compression, some under tension, which maximizes the sensitivity of the load cell, and automatically cancels the effect of temperature.
InstallationThis Single Point Load Cell is used in small jewelry scales and kitchen scales. It’s mounted by bolting down the end of the load cell where the wires are attached, and applying force on the other end in the direction of the arrow. Where the force is applied is not critical, as this load cell measures a shearing effect on the beam, not the bending of the beam. CalibrationA simple formula is usually used to convert the measured mv/V output from the load cell to the measured force:
Measured Force = A * Measured mV/V + B (offset)
It’s important to decide what unit your measured force is - grams, kilograms, pounds, etc.
This load cell has a rated output of 1.0±0.15mv/v which corresponds to the sensor’s capacity of 5kg.
To find A we use
Capacity = A * Rated Output
A = Capacity / Rated Output
A = 5 / 1.0
A = 5
Since the Offset is quite variable between individual load cells, it’s necessary to calculate the offset for each sensor. Measure the output of the load cell with no force on it and note the mv/V output measured by the PhidgetBridge.

CapacityThe maximum load the load cell is designed to measure within its specifications.
CreepThe change in sensor output occurring over 30 minutes, while under load at or near capacity and with all environmental conditions and other variables remaining constant.
FULL SCALE or FSUsed to qualify error - FULL SCALE is the change in output when the sensor is fully loaded. If a particular error (for example, Non-Linearity) is expressed as 0.1% F.S., and the output is 1.0mV/V, the maximum non-linearity that will be seen over the operating range of the sensor will be 0.001 mV/V. An important distinction is that this error doesn’t have to only occur at the maximum load. If you are operating the sensor at a maximum of 10% of capacity, for this example, the non-linearity would still be 0.001mV/V, or 1% of the operating range that you are actually using.
HysteresisIf a force equal to 50% of capacity is applied to a load cell which has been at no load, a given output will be measured. The same load cell is at full capacity, and some of the force is removed, resulting in the load cell operating at 50% capacity. The difference in output between the two test scenarios is called hysteresis.
Excitation VoltageSpecifies the voltage that can be applied to the power/ground terminals on the load cell. In practice, if you are using the load cell with the PhidgetBridge, you don’t have to worry about this spec.
Input ImpedanceDetermines the power that will be consumed by the load cell. The lower this number is, the more current will be required, and the more heating will occur when the load cell is powered. In very noisy environments, a lower input impedance will reduce the effect of Electromagnetic interference on long wires between the load cell and PhidgetBridge.
Insulation ResistanceThe electrical resistance measured between the metal structure of the load cell, and the wiring. The practical result of this is the metal structure of the load cells should not be energized with a voltage, particularly higher voltages, as it can arc into the PhidgetBridge. Commonly the load cell and the metal framework it is part of will be grounded to earth or to your system ground.
Maximum OverloadThe maximum load which can be applied without producing a structural failure.
Non-LinearityIdeally, the output of the sensor will be perfectly linear, and a simple 2-point calibration will exactly describe the behaviour of the sensor at other loads. In practice, the sensor is not perfect, and Non-linearity describes the maximum deviation from the linear curve. Theoretically, if a more complex calibration is used, some of the non-linearity can be calibrated out, but this will require a very high accuracy calibration with multiple points.
Non-Repeatability The maximum difference the sensor will report when exactly the same weight is applied, at the same temperature, over multiple test runs.
Operating TemperatureThe extremes of ambient temperature within which the load cell will operate without permanent adverse change to any of its performance characteristics.
Output ImpedanceRoughly corresponds to the input impedance. If the Output Impedance is very high, measuring the bridge will distort the results. The PhidgetBridge carefully buffers the signals coming from the load cell, so in practice this is not a concern.
Rated OutputIs the difference in the output of the sensor between when it is fully loaded to its rated capacity, and when it’s unloaded. Effectively, it’s how sensitive the sensor is, and corresponds to the gain calculated when calibrating the sensor. More expensive sensors have an exact rated output based on an individual calibration done at the factory.

Safe OverloadThe maximum axial load which can be applied without producing a permanent shift in performance characteristics beyond those specified.
Compensated TemperatureThe range of temperature over which the load cell is compensated to maintain output and zero balance within specified limits.
Temperature Effect on SpanSpan is also called rated output. This value is the change in output due to a change in ambient temperature. It is measured over 10 degree C temperature interval.
Temperature Effect on ZeroThe change in zero balance due to a change in ambient temperature. This value is measured over 10 degree C temperature interval.
Zero BalanceZero Balance defines the maximum difference between the +/- output wires when no load is applied. Realistically, each sensor will be individually calibrated, at least for the output when no load is applied. Zero Balance is more of a concern if the load cell is being interfaced to an amplification circuit - the PhidgetBridge can easily handle enormous differences between +/-. If the difference is very large, the PhidgetBridge will not be able to use the higher Gain settings.

24-Bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) for Weigh Scales
DESCRIPTION Based on Avia Semiconductor’s patented
technology, HX711 is a precision 24-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) designed for weigh scales and industrial control applications to interface directly with a bridge sensor.
The input multiplexer selects either Channel A or B differential input to the low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA). Channel A can be programmed with a gain of 128 or 64, corresponding to a full-scale differential input voltage of ±20mV or ±40mV respectively, when a 5V supply is connected to AVDD analog power supply pin. Channel B has a fixed gain of 32. On-chip power supply regulator eliminates the need for an external supply regulator to provide analog power for the ADC and the sensor. Clock input is flexible. It can be from an external clock source, a crystal, or the on-chip oscillator that does not require any external component. On-chip power-on-reset circuitry simplifies digital interface initialization.
There is no programming needed for the internal registers. All controls to the HX711 are through the pins.

Analog Inputs Channel A differential input is designed to
interface directly with a bridge sensor’s differential output. It can be programmed with a gain of 128 or 64. The large gains are needed to accommodate the small output signal from the sensor. When 5V supply is used at the AVDD pin, these gains correspond to a full-scale differential input voltage of ±20mV or ±40mV respectively.
Channel B differential input has a fixed gain of 32. The full-scale input voltage range is ±80mV, when 5V supply is used at the AVDD pin.
Power Supply Options Digital power supply (DVDD) should be the
same power supply as the MCU power supply.
When using internal analog supply regulator, the dropout voltage of the regulator depends on the external transistor used. The output voltage is equal to VAVDD=VBG*(R1+R2)/ R1 (Fig. 1). This voltage should be designed with a minimum of 100mV below VSUP voltage.
If the on-chip analog supply regulator is not used, the VSUP pin should be connected to either AVDD or DVDD, depending on which voltage is higher. Pin VFB should be connected to Ground and pin BASE becomes NC. The external 0.1uF bypass capacitor shown on Fig. 1 at the VBG output pin is then not needed.
Clock Source Options By connecting pin XI to Ground, the on-chip
oscillator is activated. The nominal output data rate when using the internal oscillator is 10 (RATE=0) or 80SPS (RATE=1).
If accurate output data rate is needed, crystal or external reference clock can be used. A crystal can be directly connected across XI and XO pins. An external clock can be connected to XI pin, through a 20pF ac coupled capacitor. This external clock is not required to be a square wave. It can come directly from the crystal output pin of the MCU chip, with amplitude as low as 150 mV.
When using a crystal or an external clock, the internal oscillator is automatically powered down.
Output Data Rate and Format When using the on-chip oscillator, output data
rate is typically 10 (RATE=0) or 80SPS (RATE=1).
When using external clock or crystal, output data rate is directly proportional to the clock or crystal frequency. Using 11.0592MHz clock or crystal results in an accurate 10 (RTE=0) or 80SPS (RATE=1) output data rate.
The output 24 bits of data is in 2’s complement format. When input differential signal goes out of the 24 bit range, the output data will be saturated at 800000h (MIN) or 7FFFFFh (MAX), until the input signal comes back to the input range.
Serial Interface Pin PD_SCK and DOUT are used for data
retrieval, input selection, gain selection and power down controls.
When output data is not ready for retrieval, digital output pin DOUT is high. Serial clock input PD_SCK should be low. When DOUT goes to low, it indicates data is ready for retrieval. By applying 25~27 positive clock pulses at the PD_SCK pin, data is shifted out from the DOUT output pin. Each PD_SCK pulse shifts out one bit, starting with the MSB bit first, until all 24 bits are shifted out. The 25th pulse at PD_SCK input will pull DOUT pin back to high (Fig.2).
Input and gain selection is controlled by the number of the input PD_SCK pulses (Table 3). PD_SCK clock pulses should not be less than 25 or more than 27 within one conversion period, to avoid causing serial communication error.

Reset and Power-Down When chip is powered up, on-chip power on
rest circuitry will reset the chip.

When PD_SCK pin changes from low to high and stays at high for longer than 60µs, HX711 enters power down mode (Fig.3). When internal regulator is used for HX711 and the external transducer, both HX711 and the transducer will be
powered down. When PD_SCK returns to low, chip will reset and enter normal operation mode.
After a reset or power-down event, input selection is default to Channel A with a gain of 128.
Application Example Fig.1 is a typical weigh scale application using
HX711. It uses on-chip oscillator (XI=0), 10Hz output data rate (RATE=0). A Single power supply (2.7~5.5V) comes directly from MCU power supply. Channel B can be used for battery level detection. The related circuitry is not shown on Fig. 1.
