自 1989 年成立以來，香港公開大學一直致力為有意

追求學問及理想前途的年青學子及在職人士提供開放

及靈活教育。迄今，本校有約一萬名全日制學生及逾

九千名兼讀制學生，並已培育超過十二萬名不同學科

的畢業生。

本校深信，每個人都擁有接受教育的權利，遂於 1992 年在社會賢達、慈善機構、工商和專業團體的熱

心捐助下，成立「學生資助基金」，讓有志學習者不會因各種原因，特別是因經濟困難而被拒諸進修門

外的人士，同時亦鼓勵學業成績出眾的學生繼續努力。過去，本校以獎學金、學科優異獎及助學金的形

式積極為學生提供各種經濟上的獎勵及支援。在辦學初期，以上獎項主要為在本校修讀兼讀制課程 ( 遙

距學習 ) 的在職成年人士而設。自 2001 年本校首辦全日制課程起，基金亦開始增設多個獎學金及學科

優異獎予全日制學生。2018-19 年度「學生資助基金」共派發獎、助學金超過八百二十萬港元，其中約

四百六十位學生獲頒獎學金或學科優異獎以嘉許其優秀的學術表現，另有逾三百九十位學生獲發助學金

以繼續其學業。

自 2011 年至今，已有逾三千六百名公大學生獲政府「自資專上獎學金計劃」頒發多個獎學金。這些獎項

不僅是政府對本校學生卓越表現的獎勵，亦是對自資院校努力及成就的肯定。本年度共有八百三十四位

公大學生獲有關計劃頒授超過一千三百六十萬港元的獎學金，本校獲獎學生人數及金額本年度再創高峰。

對每位學生而言，獎項的價值遠超於其金額，因為每個獎項都是對他們過去努力的一種肯定和支持，更

給予他們信心和力量去達成學習目標，讓他們有機會締造更美好的前景。本校謹此衷心感謝各位善長的

贊助，讓基金積極發揮作用，協助更多有志人士踏進大學之門。誠盼各界繼續支持香港公開大學，與我

們攜手育才，發揚「有教無類」的精神。

Since its inception in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) has been offering open and flexible education to the community, from young secondary school leavers to working adults who are keen to acquire knowledge for a brighter future. To-date, the OUHK has a student population of about 10,000 full-time students and over 9,000 part-time students, and more than 120,000 learners have graduated from our wide range of programmes.

Upholding the belief in 'Education for All' , the OUHK established the 'Student Assistance Fund' in 1992 under the auspices of philanthropists, charities, businesses and professional bodies to ensure no aspiring learner will be deprived of the opportunity for higher education due to financial limitations. The fund also aims to reward outstanding students who have strived for academic excellence. Scholarships, course prizes and bursaries were offered to students of part-time programmes (distance learning) in the early years as the majority of OUHK students were adult learners who work full-time. The University further extended the offer of scholarships to include full-time students in 2001. In 2018-19, the Fund granted scholarships and course prizes to reward about 460 outstanding students and over 390 bursaries to support needy students to continue their studies. A record total of over HK$8.2 million was distributed this year.

Since 2011, over 3,600 OUHK students were awarded various scholarships under the Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme (SPSS) established by the Hong Kong Government. These awards represent public recognition of the excellence and distinctive achievement of our students and their endorsement of the efforts of self-financing institutions. This year, a total of 834 OUHK students received the above scholarships, with a total value of over HK$13.6 million. Both the number of awardees and the amount of scholarships reached record high for the University this year.

To every OUHK student, the value of each award goes way beyond its monetary value as it represents not only the support and recognition of their hard work, but also drives them closer to their study goals. We are most honored and grateful to have the unwavering and enthusiastic support from our friends in the community, who have enabled the continued growth of the Fund, sustaining the encouragement and boosting the confidence of our students. We hope to enlist more support from donors and friends so that more worthy learners from OUHK can be recognized and rewarded.

Self-financing Post-secondary ScholarshipThe Self-financing Post-secondary Scholarship Scheme was set up in 2011 by the Self-financing Post-secondary Education Fund of the Hong Kong Government to offer scholarships and awards to students pursuing full-time self-financing sub-degree or undergraduate programmes at self-financing tertiary institutions. The Scheme aims to promote quality and sustainable development of the self-financing post-secondary education sector. There are five types of scholarships established under the Scheme, namely: Best Progress Award, Endeavour Scholarship, Outstanding Performance Scholarship, Reaching Out Award and Talent Development Scholarship. 林澤宇於中學時期開始對化學及科學方面產生濃厚興趣，希望日後從事化驗工作。他在大學選科時發現公開大學開辦的「檢測和認證榮譽理學士」課程，不論是課程內容或是收生要求均切合自己需要，所以便決意報讀。

澤宇表示自己中學成績平平，亦不太習慣同學之間激烈競爭的風氣，幸好在入讀公大後，他發現大學師生之間關係融洽友善，對不同學術課題均可坦誠討論及分享，而非只著眼於分數的高低，讓他開始感受到探求學問的樂趣，成績亦慢慢進步。

今次是澤宇第二次獲頒獎學金，他對此感到十分榮幸，並衷心感謝贊助機構的慷慨捐獻及支持。他形容，獲獎是對他學習能力的一大肯定，提升自信心之餘，亦鼓勵他訂立更遠大的目標，一步步邁向成功。

澤宇下學年即將升讀四年級，他有意於畢業後報讀碩士課程，繼續深造。他將善用獎學金準備升學事宜，如報考 IELTS 國際英語水平測試及報讀有關課程作準備。此外，澤宇亦會以獎學金報考小提琴九級考試，他亦希望邀請母親一同出外旅遊，以答謝她一直以來的細心照顧，讓他可專注學業，爭取優異成績。

Mr Lam Chak Yu Nelson has developed a strong interest in chemistry and science subjects during secondary school and he wished to forge a career in science as a laboratory technician since then. Later when Nelson was searching for university programme, he found that both the curriculum contents and the admission requirements of the ‘Bachelor of Science with Honours in Testing and Certification’ programme offered by the OUHK best suited him, so he decided to enrol.

Nelson’s academic result was just fair at secondary school and he was overwhelmed by the fierce competition among schoolmates. Fortunately, he found that the relationship between teachers and students at the OUHK was very close. Everyone was encouraged to openly discuss and share their views and they do not simply emphasize academic grades. Gradually, Nelson began to discover the joy in the pursuit of knowledge and obtained improvement in academic performance.

This is the second time that Nelson was awarded scholarships at the OUHK and he feels much honoured to have received the awards. He is also very thankful to his donors for their generous donation and support. Nelson sees the scholarships as an important affirmation of the efforts he has spent, and they also help boost up his confidence and motivate him to set a more ambitious goal.

Nelson will be in his final year of study soon and he plans to pursue a Master’s degree after graduation. He will make good use of the scholarship money to apply for the IELTS Test and other related courses so as to get prepared for the postgraduate study. Nelson will also use the money to take the Grade 9 violin exam and invite his mother for a vacation trip as a token of appreciation for her support all along.

「六十後」的吳貴芳成長於香港只有兩間大學的年代，當時只有精英才獲得升讀大學的機會，而成績一般的她就只能如大多數的中學畢業生一樣，早早投身職場。貴芳畢業後於一間製衣公司負責採購工作，生活逐漸穩定，但她那未圓的大學夢一直是她的心結。為了不讓人生留下遺憾，她於 2016 年報讀公開大學的「工商管理學士」兼讀制課程，重返校園。

放下書包多年的貴芳在進修初期曾遇到不少挑戰與困難，如時間分配、聽不明白導師的英文解說、不懂得上網交功課及借閱參考書等等。她唯有將勤補拙，多上幾堂導修課，以求加深對課程內容的了解，同時在女兒的幫助下，慢慢熟習運用電子學習工具。此外，她亦遇上了一班好同學，大家互助互勉下，學習漸上軌道。貴芳現時已修畢所有學分，預計於今年年底完成課程，屆時將與女兒一同戴上四方帽，披上畢業袍。

首次獲得獎學金的貴芳感到十分開心，表示得獎是對她努力學習的肯定。她十分感謝公大，讓她有機會圓夢。貴芳希望獎、助學金贊助人能夠繼續支持大學及有志求學之士，鼓勵更多人積極進修，裝備自己。她亦非常感激一直以來支持她的家人，讓她無後顧之憂，勇敢追求夢想。

Belonging to the ‘post-60s generation’, Ng Kwai Fong Fion grew up in the era when there were only two universities in Hong Kong. At that time, only elites would have a chance to receive higher education. Being an average student, Fion had no choice but entered the workforce soon after completing her high school studies. She started working at a clothing company as a merchandiser. Though her life became more stable, her dream to pursue university education remained intact. To achieve her life goals with no regrets, Fion decided to return to school and enrolled the part-time business administration programme at the OUHK in 2016.

Having left school for so many years, Fion encountered quite a number of challenges and difficulties at the beginning of her studies, including time management, understanding of teachers’ explanation in English as well as the use of online systems to submit homework and borrow reference books. In order to gain a better understanding of the course content, Fion spent more time on studying and attended more than one tutorial class for each course. Meanwhile, with the help of her daughter, she gradually got familiar with the use of e-learning tools. She was also glad to have a group of supportive classmates, helping her better manage her studies. Fion has just completed all the credits required and she is expecting to wear a graduation cap and gown with her daughter together at the end of this year.

This is the first time that Fion receives scholarships from the University and she is thrilled about it. She said that the award is an important recognition of her hard work and she sincerely thanked the OUHK for offering a chance for her to realize her dream. Fion hopes that scholarship and bursary donors will continue to support the University, in order to encourage more people to pursue further studies for self-advancement. She also expressed her deepest gratitude to her family members for their enthusiastic support.
