Saint Canera, patroness of Irish Sailors, is sitting in a boat with an oil lamp, the symbol of wisdom and virginity, with a monastery on an island in the background where she sought spiritual rest. She was
refused entrance to the island but was given Eu-charist just before she died. The shamrock speaks to her Irish ancestry.

Siempre amable, siempre fuerte, Siempre presente, siempre justo:

Americans' tax dollars are in real danger of being used to pay for abortion. The Hyde Amendment, which has been credited with saving 2.5 million lives, is now facing the most serious threat to its existence since be-ing enacted 45 years ago.

EXPLORING THE WORD OF GOD The Second Sunday of Easter—Divine Mercy Sunday
April 11, 2021
Reading I Acts 4:32-35
The community of believers was of one heart and mind, and no one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they had every-thing in common. With great power the apostles bore witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great favor was accorded them all. There was no needy person among them, for those who owned property or houses would sell them, bring the proceeds of the sale, and put them at the feet of the apostles, and they were distributed to each according to need.
§§§§§§
This is a powerful reading for those of us in the US now! The results of the pandemic seem to be that we ARE NOT of one mind nor one heart! We have become “hoarders” of the worst kind. Except for small children! They love to “catch our eye” during mass and, having gotten our attention, they hold a connection with us for as long as possible! [Now, I’m sure they are simply captivated by
the masks—but I’ll take it!] Since we are still supposed to be “masked”, I’m working on catching the eye of people near me…and I smile as though my life depended on it, hoping that the smile will “make it into my eyes”! That’s the best we can do right now! We simply must connect with others assur-ing them that “we are of one mind and heart”! One of our candidates for the Easter Sacra-ments who was confirmed and made his first Communion on Holy Saturday asked the minister who baptized him in another tradi-tion for a letter of verification. The minister who is now in a Christian Church in Iowa had baptized our candidate while he was at College Heights in Joplin. His letter was simply gracious….in the tradition of the Acts of the Apostles when a “community of be-lievers were of one heart and mind.”
Happy Easter Season

A PRAYER FOR HEALING VICTIMS OF ABUSE
God of endless love, ever caring, ever strong, always present, always just: You gave your only Son to save us by his blood on the cross.
Gentle Jesus, shepherd of peace, join to your own suffering the pain of all who have been hurt in body, mind, and spirit by those who betrayed the trust placed in them.
Hear the cries of our brothers and sisters who have been gravely harmed, and the cries of those who love them.
Soothe their restless hearts with hope, steady their shaken spirits with faith. Grant them justice for their cause, enlightened by your truth.
Holy Spirit, comforter of hearts, heal your people’s wounds and transform brokenness into wholeness. Grant us the courage and wisdom, humility and grace, to act with justice. Breathe wisdom into our prayers and labors. Grant that all harmed by abuse may find peace in justice.

The music was beautiful! Thank you Vickie Barnes, Rick Holden, Mark Keaton, Kevin Linehan, Lyric Major, Louise Butterfield, Marge Nowak, Becky Haddock, Kathy Bartley, Megan Murphy, Luis Paxtor, Rudy Gomez, Jorge Mejia, Rolando Mejia, and all the parish-ioners who sang. It was wonderful to have so many voices praising God in song.
Thanks to the lectors for proclaiming the Word of God: Marisol Aviles, Pris Reed, Rita Gar-nett, Omar Juarez, Diane Strouss, Lee Ann Mur-phy, and Ana Sollenberger.
Thanks to the altar servers: Stephen Harvey, Joe Davis, Jr., and Judy Smith.
Thanks to the cross bearers: Jose Granados and Omar Juarez.
Thanks to all the ushers! Sorry, I didn’t see who all served in that capacity, so I can’t thank you individually, but we appreciate the jobs you performed: seating people, taking up the collec-tion, keeping the calm, welcoming people, light-ing candles at the Easter Vigil Mass, and more!
Thank you to the gift bearers. It is wonderful to have that back at Mass.
And thank you to anyone else I may have for-gotten to mention. There were many dedicated individuals who spent many hours preparing for the Triduum and Easter Sunday celebrations, as they do for other Masses. You are all treasures! God bless you!

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL NORMS Meeting
Wednesday, April 14 at 6:00 PM St. Canera Parish Hall
Following the comprehensive process of con-sultation with all the priests of the diocese, Bishop Rice tasked the various directors at the chancery for a renewal of the norms of a Parish Council to be in line with the pastoral needs and practices of the current day in order to move the Church of Southern Missouri away from its more “maintenance” mode of opera-tion to a more “mission” mindset to better meet our diocesan goals of 1) Growing in Holiness; 2) Forming Intentional Disciples; and 3) being Sent to Witness.
Bishop Rice signed the “Decree Promulgating the Norms for the Parish Pastoral Council” at The Catholic Center on Nov. 18, 2020.
The “Norms” have been sent to each parish in the Diocese of Springfield Cape Girardeau, and they appeared in The Mirror.
On Wednesday, April 14 at 6:00 PM, St. Canera will host a meeting with Parish Council members and other leaders of our parish; as well as the Parish Council and parish leaders of Nativity of Our Lord Par-ish in Noel and those of St. Mary’s Parish in Seneca. Representatives from the Catholic Center will also be in attendance. The pur-pose of the meeting is ensure that each Par-ish Pastoral Council has an understanding of how to implement the new Norms. Dinner will be provided.
Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his mercy endures forever.
