Perth Youth Theatre: Hoods

Every night, the ‘hoods’ ride the train to a wrecking yard on the edge of the city. Here, in this ‘cemetery of stories’, they are storytellers with the power to fast-forward, pause and rewind.

Tonight they tell the story of Kyle, Jessie and baby Troy, three children abandoned in a deserted car park who wait, in vain, for their mother’s return. The car park is a dark and sinister place for those so young, filled with strange and familiar characters. Will these characters help them make it through the night? Will the hoods let them make it through the story?

Bob nos mae’r ‘lwffod’ yn sleifio ar drên i iard chwalu ar ymyl y ddinas. Yma, yn y ‘fynwent straeon’ hon, chwedleuwyr ydyn nhw a chanddyn nhw’r gallu i ddirwyn yn gyflym, oedi ac ail-weindio. G-Expressions

G-Expressions and screenwriter/director Alex Reynolds are collaborating again to showcase the talents of the Newport youth community.

Jess is a twenty-something talented dancer who is thrust into a parental role when her parents are tragically killed in a car crash, leaving her to care for her younger sister Tianna. Jess dedicates her life to raising her sister and also volunteering at a local community centre teaching dance to young people. When a local showcase comes to town and opens its doors to dance schools, Jess turns her focus on getting the kids finally noticed.

The story defines the true meaning of struggle, belief, family and hope, because real life is “Make or Break”.

Unwaith eto mae G-Expressions a’r sgriptiwr ffilmiau a’r cyfarwyddwr Alex Reynolds yn cydweithredu i roi stondin i ddoniau cymuned ieuenctid Casnewydd yn Make or Break. Mae’r stori’n diffinio gwir ystyr ymrafael, cred, teulu a gobaith, oherwydd “Make or Break” ydi bywyd go iawn.

THE ROYAL BED by SIÔN EIRIAN an English language adaptation of SIWAN by SAUNDERS LEWIS

The future lies in her hands...Easter 1230 and an uneasy truce exists between a divided Wales and England. At the court of the charismatic Prince of North Wales, a catastrophe is about to unfold and dreams of a united Wales will crumble…

Set in medieval Wales, it is a heart-breaking tale of the disintegration of a marriage played out against a backdrop of political intrigue. With live music and BAFTA Cymru Best Actress winner Eiry Thomas as Siwan, this world stage premiere of The Royal Bed is an unmissable opportunity for an English language audience to experience a powerful Welsh classic.

Supported by the Welsh Government and the Arts Council of Wales through the National Performing Arts Touring scheme.

Gameshow

Matt and Matthew want to be astronauts. They want to take an audience into space with them. They’ve been trying their best, but someone keeps messing it up.

Poignant, honest and moving, this show’s for you if you’ve ever wanted to be famous, tried, failed or wondered what it’d be like to be lost in space with your best friend.

This Is The Moon, That Is The Earth is an experimental journey into space exploring the giganticness of the universe and the insignificance of humanity.

Mae ar Matt and Matthew eisiau bod yn ofodwyr. Mae arnyn nhw eisiau mynd â chynulleidfa i’r gofod i’w canlyn. Fe fuon nhw’n gwneud eu gorau glas, ond mae rhywun yn cadw i wneud cawl o bethau. Mister Ellody has kept his Accordion shop going on the high street for years. Generation after generation of Ellody has quietly existed on this street. The Blues Band

Over 20 albums and 35 years have passed since 1979, when Paul Jones and Tom McGuinness expected a short shelf life for their idea of forming a pub band to ‘play the blues for beer money’. But passion is a currency everyone covets, and The Blues Band had passion by the bucketful; and fans know a good thing when they hear it. The public’s eager response to what The Blues Band thought was a hobby project took them by surprise, providing a career for life beyond the boundaries of pop, in the musical tradition they love. Pubs and beer money are a thing of the past. The Blues Band continue to be celebrated across the media and have played to wildly appreciative audiences around the globe in venues ranging from clubs through to civic halls and theatres. They’ve toured with Dire Straits and headlined at Glastonbury. Now they’ve added to their expanding catalogue of recordings with a brilliant new album, Few Short Lines. They’re the ultimate good night out.

Mae’r Blues Band yn dal i fod yn fawr ei glod ar hyd ac ar led y cyfryngau a chwaraeodd i gynulleidfaoedd oedd yn dwli arno drwy’r byd yn grwn mewn oedfannau’n amrywio o glybiau drwodd i neuaddau dinesig a theatrau. Dyma’r noson allan orau fyw fyd bosib.

After more than a decade in Britain, the German Comedy Ambassador has ‘groan’ to like puns....though he still couldn’t eat a whole one. As Henning’s assimilation is not yet complete he hasn’t lost his sense of Westphalian wonderment at the foibles of British society.

Why does everybody want to be owned by a house? What’s wrong with having the Euro? And why hold society and government responsible for personal underachievement? You’ve only got yourself to blame for not being born into a better social class.

Expect a crash course in personal accountability and have a right old laugh at the same time! Wunderbar!

Ar ôl mwy na degawd ym Mhrydain mae Llysgennad Comedi’r Almaen wedi dod yn bur hoff o fwyseiriau....ond gormod o bwdin dagith gi. Gan fod Henning heb eto gymhathu’r llwyr ni chollodd ei ymdeimlad o ryfeddod Westffalaidd yn wyneb mympwyon cymdeithas Prydain. Gewch chi ddisgwyl cwrs carlam mewn atebolrwydd personol a chwerthin ei hochor hi ar yr un pryd! Wunderbar!

Harnisch-Lacey Harnisch-Lacey Dance’s new double-bill TÂN is based on Wales’ recent journey to reclaim its cultural identity. Combining contemporary dance, breakdance and parkour, a story unfolds where the 1930s arson attack at Penyberth ignites our future. A moveable set, original footage and an original soundtrack by Bafta winner Tom Raybould will set the theatre alight, exploring themes of identity, freedom and the power of transformation. TÂN will be complemented by an extract of SPIN, a success at the Edinburgh Fringe 2014.

Yn cyfuno dawns gyfoes, breg-ddawnsio a “parkour”, mae stori’n datblygu lle mae’r ymosodiad llosgi yn y 1930au ym Mhenyberth yn tanio ein dyfodol. Bydd set symudol, pytiau gwreiddiol o ffilm a thrac sain gwreiddiol gan yr enillydd Bafta, Tom Raybould, yn rhoi’r theatr ar dân, yn chwilio themâu hunaniaeth, rhyddid a grym gweddnewid. Cyfannir TÂN gan ddetholiad o SPIN, a aeth â hi yng Ngŵyl Ymylon Caeredin 2014.

All or Nothing

Three’s A Crowd brings together six superb performing artists in this breath-taking and touching look at human relationships, emotions and how we all affect each other. Set around a reunion of friends, what really lies beneath the surface of this get together? How are the characters connected? What happens to the dynamic, to each other, when a third element becomes involved? Told with stunning imagery, thrills, spills, heartbreak, happiness and the odd bit of humour, Three’s A Crowd is an aerial dance theatre show involving harness flying, aerial acrobatics, circus, dance and theatre.

Directed by Jennifer Paterson, designed by Becky Minto, written by Zoe Venditozzi, and set to a powerful new score by Luke Sutherland. All or Nothing is Scotland’s leading aerial dance company.

Mae Three's A Crowd yn dod â chwe artist perfformio gwych at ei gilydd yn y cip syfrdanol a gwefreiddiol yma ar berthynas rhwng dyn a’i gyd-ddyn, teimladau a sut rydym i gyd yn effeithio ar ein gilydd. Aduniad ffrindiau ydi’r achlysur, ond beth sydd o dan wyneb yr aduno yma? Beth ydi’r cysylltiad rhwng y cymeriadau? Beth sy’n digwydd i’r egni, i’r naill a’r llall, pan ddaw trydedd elfen ar glawr?

Of Mice and Men Think Floyd

This extraordinary show, dubbed The Definitive Pink Floyd Experience, is renowned for its stunning celebration of one of the world’s greatest musical phenomena.

Now in their 20th year, the incredibly talented musicians who make up Think Floyd have managed to faithfully recreate all the atmosphere, visual magnitude and musical excellence of Pink Floyd live on stage. It’s no wonder they have long been regarded as The UK’s finest tribute to Pink Floyd. The brand new Think Floyd production features the whole range of classic Pink Floyd from early Syd Barrett, through Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here to The Division Bell.

Complete with an impressive laser light show, this is a must-see for all Pink Floyd fans!

Bellach ar eu hugeinfed flwyddyn, mae cerddorion anhygoel o ddawnus Think Floyd wedi llwyddo i ail-greu’n ffyddlon holl awyrgylch, maint gweledol a rhagoriaeth gerddorol Pink Floyd yn fyw ar lwyfan. Does ryfedd eu bod yn cael eu hystyried ers tro yn deyrnged orau Prydain i Pink Floyd.

“A guy needs somebody - to be near him. Don’t make no difference who the guy is, long’s he’s with you.”

Of Mice and Men tells the story of George Milton and Lenny Small, two very different men bound together by providence. Set against the backdrop of the American Great Depression, our hapless protagonists hatch a plan to leave their life of poverty behind and start anew.

It seems so simple, and perhaps that’s what is so beautiful about it, but little do they know, fate still has a hand to play.

John Steinbeck’s gripping and dramatic tale of two men with a single dream is told bravely and in stunning detail.

Hanes George Milton a Lenny Small ydi Of Mice and Men, dau ddyn gwahanol iawn ynghlwm wrth ei gilydd drwy ragluniaeth. Dirwasgiad Mawr America ydi cefnlen ein harwyr druain sy’n dyfeisio cynllun i gefnu ar eu cyni a’u caledfyd a chychwyn o’r newydd. Mae Tin Shed Theatre Co yn adrodd hanes gafaelgar a dramatig John Steinbeck, hanes dau ddyn a chanddyn nhw un freuddwyd ar y cyd, yn ddewr ac yn drawiadol o fanwl.

PanGottic Circus-Theatre

Circus-theatre inspired by Heath Robinson; for DIY enthusiasts, garden shed inventors, and the people who put up with them.

An exploration into a relationship between man, circus and contraption using a blend of clown, juggling, magic and invention, all set to a unique live soundtrack of sounds and samples taken from the contraptions themselves.

The award-winning PanGottic welcome you to the curious and surreal world of Oscar Boffin; a slightly obsessive compulsive inventor who will guide you through this Heath Robinson inspired piece of non-verbal Circus‐Theatre.

“Pangottic performed at last year’s Big Splash with his street theatre show, Thingamabob, and now he’s back with more ‘awe-inspiring and outlandish entertainment’ (What’s On Stage)!” What’s On Stage.

Mae’r cwmni arobryn PanGottic yn eich croesawu chi i fyd rhyfedd a swrreal Oscar Boffin, bathwr sy’n dioddef gan dipyn o anhwylder gorfodaeth obsesiynol, fydd yn eich tywys chi drwy’r darn yma o Theatr Syrcas ddieiriau a ysbrydolwyd gan Heath Robinson.

Newport Schools Dance

The Newport Schools’ Dance Festival was established over sixteen years ago and takes place annually, over three evenings. It was originally set up by Newport City Council’s P.E. Advisory Service to showcase the fantastic dance and P.E. work, which takes place in Newport Schools, and also to provide pupils with the opportunity to perform on a professional stage.

Over the past sixteen years, the Dance Festival has continued to grow and last year, saw more than six hundred pupils involved, from over twenty-five of Newport’s Primary and Secondary schools. Each year, teachers and pupils work extremely hard to come up with a range of stunning costumes and outstanding dance routines, resulting in four incredible evenings of entertainment for all.

Dros un mlynedd ar bymtheg yn ôl y sylfaenwyd Gŵyl Ddawns Ysgolion Casnewydd ac mae’n digwydd bob blwyddyn, dros dair noson. How the Koala Learnt to Hug HITCH

“No one is innocent!” snarls the compere. At a cabaret based on the work of Alfred Hitchcock, these are the only words we can trust. Mary Bijou Cabaret and Social Club presents HITCH. Walking the line between hilarity and horror, the cabaret includes a singing Mrs. Danvers, extolling her beloved Rebecca; a Vertigo victim walking a wire in high heels; Tippi Hedren on a Chinese Pole, beset by Birds; Marlene Dietrich, prowling the theatre, looking for an accomplice or victim - she’s not picky. With music by Tom Elstob (The Idol Rich), Bethan Cecil and Branwen Munn, the cast sing for their lives. Someone will lose their life tonight… perhaps more than one. Mary Bijou Cabaret and Social Club pushes cabaret to new frontiers.

Fancy dress is optional but highly recommended. Come as your favourite Hitchcock character…victim, villain or hapless innocent. Or maybe you fancy yourself as the ‘master of suspense’ himself.

Mary Bijou Cabaret a Social Club yn cyflwyno HITCH, cabaret wedi’i seilio ar waith Alfred Hitchcock. Yn mingamu ar hyd llinell gul rhwng digri dat ddagrau ac arswyd, mae Mary Bijou a Social Club yn gwthio cabaret hyd at derfynau newydd.

An Inspector Calls

Tin Shed Theatre Co.

A jolly evening in a prosperous family household is interrupted by a caller, a man introducing himself as a police inspector, making enquiries about a young girl’s suicide.

By the time his inspection is through, the pleasant mood of the evening has been crushed by the implication that everyone has played a vital part in the death of Eva Smith.

The Inspector reveals to the family that all our lives are intertwined with each other and sometimes the suffering and the chances of happiness of those less fortunate are affected with what we think, say and do. ‘We don’t live alone. We are members of one body. We are all responsible for each other.’

J.B Preistley’s exciting detective thriller is told bravely and in stunning detail by Tin Shed Theatre Co.

Paul Robeson is a great and famous actor, singer and civil rights campaigner. When he gets too radical and outspoken for the establishment’s liking, he is branded a traitor to his country, is harassed, and denied opportunities to perform or travel.

This rollercoaster journey through Robeson’s remarkable life highlights how his activism caused him to be disowned and disremembered, even by leaders and descendants of the civil rights movement. It features some famous songs (including a dramatic rendition of Ol’ Man River), speeches, and a spectacularly defiant testimony to the Senate House Un-American Activities Committee. One of the 20th Century’s most impressive but overlooked figures is revived in this powerful, compelling tour-de-force performance,.

Mae’r daith colli cylla yma drwy fywyd hynod Robeson yn rhoi yn yr amlwg sut y bu i’w weithredaeth beri ei ddiarddel a’i roi dros gof, hyd yn oed gan arweinwyr y mudiad hawliau sifil. Albert Hammond My People

Gwyn Emberton

Inspired by author Caradoc Evans’ controversial collection of short-stories of the same name, this new dance theatre co-production sees Gwyn Emberton and his company of international dancers delve into the dark, turbulent, and mythical world of Manteg.

Combining a powerful cinematic score by Benjie Talbott and Tic Ashfield with dynamic and intricate choreography, audiences will be taken on the haunting but beautiful journeys of some the book’s most memorable characters.

With 2015 the centenary of the book, My People is a celebration of one of Wales’ most beloved/hated books and revered/feared writers by a new choreographic voice in Welsh dance theatre.

Ysbrydolwyd y cyd-gynhyrchiad theatr ddawns newydd yma gan gasgliad dadleuol Caradoc Evans o straeon byrion o’r un enw ac yma gwelwn Gwyn Emberton a’i gwmni o ddawnswyr rhyngwladol yn cloddio i fyd tywyll, tymhestlog, a mytholegol Manteg. Albert Hammond has been writing hit songs for over forty years. Since the 1960’s there has not been a single decade in which Albert has not written multiple hit songs. His songs have been responsible for the sale of over 360 million records worldwide including over 30 chart-topping hits. Many of his most beloved songs, such as “The Air That I Breathe” and “When I Need You,” have become hits multiple times with various artists, decade after decade. Whitney Huston’s “One Moment in Time” became a worldwide anthem.Albert achieved early success as an artist and he has since built a multi-faceted career as a recording artist, songwriter and producer, earning him induction into the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 2008.

Of course he also had various No1 hits under his own performing name like “It Never Rains In Southern California”, “Down By The River”, Free Electric Band”, “I’m A Train” - to name just a few. He is now back to perform all these songs live!

Daeth llwyddiant cynnar i ran Albert fel artist ac ers hynny meithrinodd yrfa amlochrog yn artist recordio, yn gyfansoddwr caneuon ac yn gynhyrchydd, a roes iddo le yn Oriel Anfarwolion Cyfansoddwyr Caneuon yn 2008. Lost Connections - Marion Cheung

January 9 Basement Gallery

University of South Wales – BA (Hons) Performing Arts FestivalJoin us for an evening of live theatre as third year students from the BA (hons) Performing Arts degree perform moments from Anton Chekhov’s plays and stories. Chekhov has been described as a writer who makes us, “uncommonly aware in a new way of what it feels like to be alive.” By addressing the relevance of Chekhov’s writing for a contemporary audience, the third year students address the demands of staging Chekhovian naturalism in a non-conventional theatre space, exploring the concepts of scenographic design.

January 10 – 31 Art Gallery

Lost Connections – Marion CheungNine paintings open a narrative that connect children who are submerged in their own digital worlds, oblivious to their surroundings and each other to children in developing countries as they make a living from electronic waste. Apocalyptic scenarios inspired by the largest e-waste dump in the world – in Ghana contrast with interior settings and mysterious forests which risk becoming ecological nightmares. The darker side to the digital revolution leaves us to question our attitudes towards electronic gadgets and the pressure to be connected at any given moment.

The Riverfront is looking to expand its temporary exhibitions programme and is interested to hear from individuals and organisations working in a variety of media who would like to exhibit in our venue.

We are keen to support local and regional artists. If you are an artist, community group or organisation interested in booking one of our exhibition spaces please email: [email protected] for further information.
