Withthestoriesyouseeinthemediaabouteverythinggoingonintheworld,it’seasytofocusonthenegativethings,
ratherthanthepositiveenergythatsurroundsus.Ipurposelychosetheword“energy”becauseitissomethingofabuzzwordaroundDowntownRochesterthesedays.Energyhasmanydifferentinterpretations,butwhenwesayit,wearereferringtotheexperienceyouhavewhenyoucomedowntown.Youcanseeitinthestoresastheychangetheirwindowstoreflectwhat’snewforspring.Youcanfeelitwhenyouvisitdowntown,greetingyourfriendsandneighborsastheyjog,rideandstrolldownthesidewalks. Andspeakingofenergy,IwouldberemissifIdidn’tmentionallthegreateventshappeningdowntown.Wehavesomuchtoofferyear-round,butsummerisdefinitelyourseason.Fromthe10thseasonoftheFarmers’Markettoourfirst3DshowingatMoviesintheMoonlight,therearealotofreasonstocomedowntownallsummerlong.Asareminder,allofoureventsarefamily-friendlyandabsolutelyfree. TheGreenCityCommitteewasformedbyRochesterDDAboardmemberandlocalbusinessownerMarilynTrentwhohashighhopesforitssuccessandimpactonourcommunity.“Sharingtheplanetwith8billionpeoplecanbeabitoverwhelming,andyoufeelthatyouhaveverylittlecontroloveranything,”explainsTrent.“TheGreenCityCommitteeofRochestergivespeopleachancetomakeadifferencebymakingchangesthatwillaffectfuturegenerations.” Businesseswillbandtogetherandpoolresourcestopushgreeninitiativessuchas:bringingrecyclingbacktothecitywithbetter,moreefficientrecyclingcontainers;bikeracksfortrailriderswhovisitthedowntownarea,andconsolidatedshreddingresourcesforlocalbusinesses.Thecommitteemeetsregularlytobrainstormadditionalwaystomakeourcommunitymoreearth-friendly.

Boutique.TheLeaderDogsjoinedusinourwalkaroundtown,whichissuchaneatpartofRochestertosharewithfriends.Itwasabeautifulmorningfullofactivitydownthesidewalks.AblockoffMainwewalkedthroughthehistoricChapmanHousethatisfilledwithavarietyoflovelyhomedécoritems.There,Ipickedupsomegreatideasandwillbeheadingback!WeendedourshoppingexcursionwithafewsurprisesfromFroggy’sToyStopforthekidsand
somemagazinesfromLytlePharmacynextdoorformyfriend’slongdrive. Afterreturninghome,wegrabbedthekidsandalltookoffforamorevigorouswalk.WeheadedoutforthePaintCreekTrailthatmeandersthroughtown.ThekidsevenbroughttheirnetsandwetooktimetocatchthingsinthePaintCreek. Aswemadeourwaybackfromournatureexploration,wealldecidedthat,yes,wewerehungry.SowehoppeduponthebarstoolsatKnapp’sDairyBarforsomeseasonedfries,burgers,and,ofcourse,abunchoficy-coldshakes.Chocolatewonoutasthefavorite.
Nextonouragenda…themomsstoppedinatEugenia’sonThirdandhadmanicuresandpedicures.Inthemeantime,thedadstookthekidsovertothePaintedPotwheretheymadeuslovelyhandprintcoffeemugstoremembertheweekendby.Thentheyheadedovertothepark,wheretheywalked(Imeanran)aroundthepondandplayedontheswingsuntiltheywereexhausted!(Note:Thatmakesforaneasieradultexitlater.) Oncethebabysitterarrivedatourhouse,westartedour“grown-up”eveningadventure.WeenjoyedawonderfuldinneratKruseandMueronMainStreet,wherewesatinthefrontwindowsandwatchedthebusyscenery.Afterourdeliciousmeal,wewalkedaroundtownwhiledoingatadbitmorewindowshopping,justbecausethatisalwaysfun!Finally,wedecidedtopopintoAndiamo’sforalittleItaliancoffee,dessertandmusic.Itwasagreatwaytowindupawonderfuldaywithwonderfulfriends!
Ourgueststoldushowluckywearetoliveinsuchavibranttownthatisfilledwithsomuchactivity…andIhadtoagreewiththem. SogetoutthereandhavefunwithyourfamilyandexploreourwonderfulRochester.
