2012

1. (135E ) .

In this report, the time stated is Korean Standard Time (135E Meridian).

2. 2011 1 1981-2010 .

The normals from 1981 to 2010 have been used since January 2011.

3. 1 8(03, 06, 09, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24) .

Daily averages are computed from the 3-hourly observations measured at 03, 06, 09, 12,

15, 18, 21 and 24h.

4. 10, 1 6

.

The 10-minute, 60-minute and 6-hourly greatest values are the largest amounts of

precipitation measured in any 10-minute, 60-minute and 6-hour period, respectively.

5. 09 09 .

Evaporation is measured from 09h to 09h of the following day.

6. 10 10

.

Cloud cover is represented by the proportion of the area of sky covered with clouds, and

measured on a scale from 0 to 10.

7. 16 , .

10 ,

.

Wind directions are given in 16 directions. The mean wind speed is the monthly average

of the daily mean wind speed obtained from the total daily wind run. The daily max wind

speed is the largest value of the mean wind speeds (10-minute averages) in a day. The

daily max gust wind speed is the highest instantaneous wind speed recorded in a day.

8. (1 24)

(16) .

The maximum wind speed and the frequency in percentage for each direction are obtained

from hourly observations.

9. , (00~24)

, 3 .

The depth of snow cover represents the depth of accumulated snow that covers at least

half of the area on the ground in a day, while the depth of snowfall represents the

accumulated fresh snowfall depth in a day. The total snowfall depth represents the sum of

the depths of three-hourly fresh snowfalls.

10. 13.9(27 knots) .

The number of days with gales is the number of days with daily maximum wind speeds

(10-minute averages) exceeding 13.9 (27 knots).

11. .

The duration of sunshine is measured by a rotating-type sunshine recorder.

12. ,

.

In the last column of the first and last date of seasonal phenomena, the first number

represents the total number of days between the first and the last occurrences, and the

number in parentheses indicates the number of days for which the phenomena actually

occurred.

INTRODUCTORY NOTE

13. , , , , , , , , ,

.

1) , , , .(,

, )

2) , , .

3) 1km .

4) , .

The number of days with phenomena is the monthly sum of days for snow, sleet, snow

pellet, hail, fog, frost, freezing, haze, yellow sand and thunderstorm.

1) The number of snow days indicates the total days with snow, snow shower, snow

grains, or snow storm.(Snow days of the annual meteorological data includes the days of

sleet or snow pellet)

2) The number of hail days indicates the total days with ice pellets, small hai,l or hail.

3) The number of fog days indicates the total days of fog with visibility less than 1km.

4) The number of thunderstorm days indicates the total days of thunderstorm or thunder.

14. 2000 1 1

, .

As automatic weather observation has been in operation at all surface synoptic stations

since January 1. 2000, the station index has been changed at some stations. The new

station index is shown in the list of surface synoptic stations.

15. 2008 9 187 188 .

The Seongsan Weather Station number has been changed from 187 to 188 since

September. 2008.

16. 2008 8 1 (105) ,

, (104) .

Due to the changes of observational elements from Gangneung Weather Station(no.105),

eye observational elements such as the number of days for weather conditions and mean

cloud amount, etc. are no longer available as of August 1. 2008. Furthermore, the

Bukgangneung Weather Station(no.104) newly started meteorological observations from August

1. 2008.

17. 2008 11 1 (251) , (203), (232), (235),

(245), (247), (256), (279), (284) ,

.

The Gochang Weather Station(no.251) newly started meteorological observations on

November 1. 2008. Due to the changes of observational elements at Icheon(no.203),

Cheonan (no.232), Boryeong(no.235), Jeongeup(no.245), Namwon(no.247), Suncheon(no.256),

Gumi(no.279) and Geochang(no.284) Weather Stations, eye observational elements such as

the number of days for weather conditions and mean cloud amount, etc. are added from

November 1. 2008.

18. 2010 7 (155) (155) .

The Masan Weather Station name is changed from Masan(155) to Changwon(155) since

July. 2010.

19. 2010 12 251 172 .

The Gochang Weather Station number is changed from 251 to 172 since December. 2010.

20. 2011 1 11 (99), (121), (127), (203), (247), (279)

, .

Due to the changes of observational elements from Munsan(no.99), Yeongwol(no.121),

Chungju(no.127), Icheon(no.203), Namwon(no.247) and Gumi(no.279) Weather Stations, eye

observational elements such as the number of days for weather conditions and mean cloud

amount, etc. no longer available as of January 11, 2011.

- 3 -

21. 2011 4 256 174 .

The Suncheon Weather Station number is changed from 256 to 174 since April. 2011.
