PV MessagesMessage froM PV Manager,

Merry Sinacore Hi! Everyone is heading here for the winter. We are hav-ing our beautiful weather, so all enjoy. As you come back to Plantation Village you will see some things have been added - such as a canopy over the pickleball courts, freshly painted walkways, and of course our new and improved office. We have new PV signs at the front gates and some new landscaping. November 9th will be a seminar for all PV Co-op residents. It will be sponsored by FLROC, FLORIDA RESIDENT OWNED CO-OP. It is a great organization that always gives us good information on Co-op issues. This seminar will be on Gov-erning Documents and Changes. So it will be helpful. It also presents us the opportunity to show off our beautiful community. So, if you happen to meet someone from an-other community, show them what makes us great. As always, Plantation Village is very unique, and it is be-cause of its people. They are the best of this community and what makes us a premier community. All the good things can be accomplished together. Again, we are fortunate to work in this great environment.

Message from Frank Fields, Co-Op President

It’s that time of year again the snowbirds are starting to trickle back. I hope they are enjoying the new improve-ments and additions to the community. The management team worked very hard over the summer. I would like to thank them for all their hard work. The co-op board continues to strive to improve our community and make PV the place to be. One of the new activities, the PV yacht club, has really taken off. It has been great fun for both men and women alike. I’m sure that many snowbirds will get boats and join in the fun. We are looking forward to another great season. As always, look out for your neighbor.

Lindy and I can tell we must be getting close to traveling south. The outside furniture has been put away and grass cutting tools have been winterized. We can start to see the bottom of the refrigerator and freezer AND yes, we had some snow flurries on Saturday morning (October 13th). Outside temperatures mean I am wearing longer shorts and longer sleeves to keep warm. I hear Hurricane Michael said hello to us on the way by and we were lucky compared to north Florida. It will be nice to pull into the village and see all the up-dates (games and social areas). It is always nice to see old friends and meet new residents and to regain the horse-shoe championship of the village. See everyone early in November!!

Shuffleboard by Barbara Dearing

Shuffleboard season is coming up soon. The season starts the first week of November and ends the last week of February, and we play on Mondays at 1:00 pm. We compete against four other mobile home parks and meet other women and have a great time. This past season we had more ladies playing for PV than we have ever had. A lot of the ladies had never played shuf-fleboard before, and they picked the game up very quickly, so do not be hesitant to join us based on experience. This season will be exciting since we will have our new roofs which cover all ten courts, unlike in the past where they only covered five. If you would like to give it a try or be a substitute player, please call Barbara Dearing at 765-606-1510 or 941-242-1055.

Hoyle Pinochle Soon Ted Ormiston will be asking if anyone wants to play. Watch for a flyer around the Mail Area.

No dance will be held in November. However, the first Saturday in December there

will be a dance.

FALL BACK!!Daylight Saving Time ends November 4th.

Change clocks back one hour.

And...Don’t forget to change the battery in your smoke detector.

Meet Your Neighbor dIANe WIeGANd

by Ted Ormiston Diane was born in Detroit, Mich-igan.  She attended Macomb Com-munity College where she received her degree in sales and market-ing.  She was married in 1971 and her husband passed away in 1993.  Her marriage was blessed by the birth of a daughter who lives in Sarasota and her daughter has en-

riched Diane’s life with a grandson and granddaughter.      Prior to leaving Michigan Diane was employed by Cham-pion Spark Plugs for seven years but gave up that job when her daughter was born.  Then she returned to the work force at Michigan National Bank for three years.   At this point in her life in 1978 Diane moved to Florida and was employed for two years at BB&T before Telecom hired her as a sales manager where she dealt with the accounts; first for Verizon and then TelSouth for 20 years.  In 1986-87 the Manatee County Chamber of Commerce named Diane “Ambassador of the Year” for her service. Diane became a resident of Plantation Village the week-end of  Hurricane Irma in 2017.  I can imagine that she wondered what she had gotten herself into! When I asked Diane if she had any hobbies she got a glow in her eyes and said, “My grandchildren.”  But she also invests a great deal of time with her dog, Sandy, who is a certified service dog, who she takes to local nursing homes to visit the residents there.   While most all of the residents of PV have their own burdens in life to deal with, Diane has an extremely taxing one in that she has dialysis every night and is on the list for a kidney transplant.  The ladies who attended some of the Ladies Night Out activities this summer really appreciate her organizing and finding fun things to do. I enjoyed the interview with Diane.  She is a nice lady and I’m sure all of Plantation Village welcomes her to our part of paradise.

Escape Bradenton A group from PV found the Escape Bradenton game a lot of fun. We hope to get some groups together to visit more escape rooms.

Activities in the Rear ViewPortrait of PV Pet Resident:

Cute As A Button, 4.25 lbs, Yorkshire Terrier by artist: Patricia Kness, PV resident.

During the winter of 2017 Bill, Buck, and Norma from our PV Bingo, came up with a unique fund raiser to offset the cost of the new bingo machine. Patricia Kness, a fairly new resident to PV and accomplished artist, agreed to donate a

“painting of a pet or person” to the winner. The fund raiser was a great success, and the ticket was drawn at the PV Bazaar in February. Norma was the only Bingo chairperson there that week-end. These three dedicate many, many hours of planning, purchasing snacks, organizing, setting up 4 hours early before bingo starts, keeping records, and cleaning up after an average of 90+ players, at each Friday game. The bingo regulars have told me on numerous oc-casions how much all the bingo volunteers are appreciated for everything they do to make their night out entertaining and fun. So, when this fund raiser was coming to a close, Norma found herself alone because Bill had previously taken a fall and had serious injuries, spending a long time in the hospital and later, a rehab facility. Buck was there every day. When the winning ticket was drawn, I happened to be there in the clubhouse. Norma pulled the ticket and looked a bit stunned, paused and then she announced: “Buck Foster is the winner”. The crowd went wild, clapping and cheering, saying no two people deserved it more! So it was that fate brought Bill and Buck a beautiful painting of their “Buttons”. About the artist: Thank you to Patricia Kness who con-tributed her time and talent. I stopped by to talk with Pat, and found a really neat studio room in her home at 191 Guava Circle. I found out that anyone can view her work on Ebay under “Patricia Kness original paintings”. While living in Minnesota, Pat spent time teaching watercolor and oil classes, she has numerous awards and recognition from various venues in states from PA to CA. Pat said if anyone wants to come over, she loves company and her lanai “studio” is fun to see!

Hurricane Michael On October 11th Hurricane Michael hit the Panhandle. Our local PV neighbor Amie Spencer, a professional pho-tographer, caught this beautiful photo at Bradenton Beach.

Bingo Bingo Bingo ! by Bill Thompson

Everything is going so well at bingo, the summer months had 90+ people showing up! Each week our head count keeps going up, and I am so happy for that. We are very happy to say that since we got our new Bingo machine everyone has been very happy with it, and how last month we installed new, larger monitors which helps players see the bingo balls much better. The BBQ cook-outs once a month are really appreciated by the Bingo players. They look forward to the next one. I can’t believe summer is over and it is November already! Thanksgiving is just around the corner. All of us at BINGO want to wish everyone a HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!! Until next time, happy Bingo’ing !!

“Painting with Cheri” The “Painting with Cheri” was held at the clubhouse a second time for men and ladies on October 11th. There were about 12 painters, and it was a fun time for all.

Daylight Savings Time: Do we “Fall Back” on November 4th this year? Be aware that there may be a change coming, but for now we have it added on the calendar!

(article reprint partial from Orlando Sentinel Sept. 2018) The “Sunshine Protection Act” that went into effect in Flor-ida in July would make daylight saving time year-round in the state — but so far the required congressional approval to make it happen has languished in the U.S. Capitol halls. U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Miami, has filed not one but two bills to make the change permanent. But if Washington fails to act, Florida’s clocks will fall back in November just as they have for years. Both bills have been referred to the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, where they have yet to be discussed. But Rubio’s office was hopeful that the bills would gain momentum as the calendar approaches No-vember and the days begin to get shorter.New Standard Time Zones Year-round DST would shift standard time in Florida 1 hour forward, effectively changing the state’s time zones.

Today, Florida observes Central Standard Time (CST) and Eastern Standard Time (EST), but adding 1 hour would move the time zones to Eastern Standard Time (EST) and Atlantic Standard Time (AST).Time in FloridaDarker Mornings, Brighter Afternoons Keeping Daylight Saving Time all year will move sunrise and sunset times in Florida 1 hour later in the day resulting in darker mornings, but also more daylight in the afternoon. Proponents argue that sunlight later in the afternoon gets people out and benefits tourism. However, later sunrises can mean that children have to walk to school in the dark. Also, critics say Florida would be out of sync with the rest of the country. A Massachusetts special commission studied the effects of moving the state’s time zone permanently to AST and concluded that the time zone change would be beneficial for the population.

South County has been ignored by the government

long enough!I was recently asked why I’m running for County Commission District 4.

I’m running for office because the state of indecision, failure to lead and inaction in South Manatee County is unacceptable. Bayshore Gardens has been long ignored,

and I intend to take action and get results starting immediately with the following:

FOR COUNTY COMMISSION DISTRICT 4

“It’s time to play hardball and fight for what’s right for South County.”

433 8th Ave. W. Palmetto, FL 34221 / 941-962-0344 / Melton4Manatee.com / [email protected] for by Melton H. Little, Democrat for County Commission District 4

• Create a plan and timeline to repair our roads.

• Fix the drainage issue once and for all.

• Get to the bottom of the Bayshore High School site toxicity concern and fix the problem.

• Ensure growth is managed correctly and does not negatively impact our local residents.

• Demand release of the $10,000,000 in existing funds slated for District 4 infrastructure.

• Build new or repair existing sidewalks.

• Replace and install street lights.

• Begin researching how we can get parks and recreational facilities for our residents built in South County.

• Guarantee that the voice of the community will be heard and result in action being taken.

• Make this a better place to live, work, and play for every resident.

• Put public needs over politics and eliminate partisan thinking.
