• China-Europe: 2,000 trains by 21st July 2016
• Europe-China: 265 trains in 2015, 28 trains in 2014
• From 16 Chinese cities to 12 European cities
• 39 planned routes, estimated speed ≥ 1300km/day
• Diversified cargo: automobile, machinery, small wares…
• Diversified source of cargo: Japan and South Korea
• Diversified rail freight services: insulated container, reefer
container, open-top container…

II. Problems
• Insufficient rail infrastructure
• Low efficiency of customs clearance
• Imbalanced trade demand: lack of return cargo
• High cost of rail transport
• Lack of proper market-positioning and long-term
planning : competition among different routes
III. Prospects
• Unified brand, integrated planning,
independent operation;
• Facilitate customs clearance procedures;
• Increase return cargo through e-commerce;
• More systematic cooperation among rail, customs and
other authorities, unification of rail-related regulations
