IPR AND PATENTS

Department of mechanical engineering organized a one day awareness programme on the topic ‘IPR and

Patents’ under TEQUIP – II, S. C. 1.2 on 25th January 2014. Resource person: Ashok Doppalapudi,

Patent Engineering, Ford, India.

Dr. Ashok Doppalapudi, graced the function as Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the

basic procedure to obtain the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and patents in engineering.

The term "Intellectual Property Rights" refers to the legal rights granted with the aim to protect the

creations of the intellect. These rights include Industrial Property Rights (e.g. patents, industrial designs

and trademarks) and Copyright (right of the author or creator) and Related Rights (rights of the

performers, producers and broadcasting organisations).

A patent is an exclusive right granted for an invention. Generally speaking, a patent provides the patent

owner with the right to decide how - or whether - the invention can be used by others. In exchange for this

right, the patent owner makes technical information about the invention publicly available in the

published patent document.

He also spoke about the scope for carrying out patent research and projects in the field of engineering and

science. Delegates from educational institution, industries and research organizations participated in large

number. The workshop was organized by Dr. A. V. Ratna Prasad, Professor, Department of Mechanical

Engineering, V.R. Siddhartha Engineering College, Vijayawada.

MASTERCAM

Department of mechanical engineering organized a three day training Programme on “MASTERCAM”

during 18th & 20

th Feb 2014. Resource person: S. Ramesh Krishnan, SIMTEK Technologies private

limited, Chennai.

During the training period, the resources person highlighted the basic procedures and programming

methods for “MASTERCAM”. He also provided the hands on training on MASTERCAM software to the

participants and presented some example cam programs.

MASTERCAM software is among the most essential breakthroughs in manufacturing technology.

Together with CAD software, they're collectively known as CAD/CAM. CAD/CAM is definitely an

acronym that stands for Computer Aided Design and Personal computer Aided Manufacture. With these

unique programs, engineers, architects and designers can use computers to style goods and structures with

relative ease. Utilizing Mastercam software, engineers and machinists can make use of the digital info

developed using CAD software to manufacture products and elements accurately inside a timely method.

Awareness on schemes of National Funding Agencies

Department of mechanical engineering organized a Guest Lecture on “Awareness on schemes of National

Funding Agencies” under TEQIP-II, S.C.1.2 on 15th March 2014. Resource person: P. R. Hariharan, New

Delhi.

The aim of the workshop is to provide the basic information on different funding agencies like University

Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Council of Scientific

and Industrial Research (CSIR), Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Department

of Science and Technology (DST), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), Ministry of Environment

and Forests (MOEF). Delegates from educational institution, staff and students of V R Siddhartha

engineering college were participated in large number.

Applications of Nano Technology

Department of mechanical engineering organized a one day Faculty Development Program on

“Applications of Nano Technology” under TEQUIP – II, S. C. 1.2, on 21st April 2014.

Dr. K. Veera Brahmam, Scientist ‘E’, Advanced System Laboratory, Defense Research and Development

Organization (DRDO), Hyderabad graced the function as Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion, he

highlighted the basic principals and advantages of Nano Technology.

Dr. K. Ramji, Professor Department of Mechanical Engineering, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam

graced the function and speaking on the occasion, he discussed the challenges faced in the Nano

Technology and stressed upon the remedial measures required to be taken in this respect. He also spoke

about the scope for carrying out research and projects in the field of Nano Technology and science.
