    The Story of the Smart Parrot

    A man in Puerto Rico had a wonderful parrot. There was no another parrot like it.

    It was very, very smart. This parrot would say any word-except one. He would not say the name of thetown where he was orn. The name of the town was !atano.

    The man tried to teach the parrot to say !atano. "ut the ird would not say the word. At firstthe man was very nice, ut then he #ot an#ry. $%ou are a stupid ird& 'hy can(t you say the word) *at!Atano, or I will kill you&+ ut the parrot would not say it. Then the man #ot to so an#ry that the shoutedover and over, $*ay !atano, or I(ll kill you&+ ut the ird wouldn(t talk.
