en Past Continuous worden, zo kan dat ook met de Present Perfect

(Simple).

Je kan met de PPC het accent leggen op het feit dat iets al langer

aan de gang is.

Je geeft de factor TIJD meer gewicht.

LET OP! Er zijn twee uitzondering wanneer de PPC de Present Perfect niet kan

vervangen.

- iets wat in het verleden is begonnen en afgelopen is, maar nog wel

effect heeft.

He has fixed my bike. It is no longer broken.

He has been fixing my bike, but it is still broken. (andere betekenis)

- Als iets met intervallen heeft plaats gevonden in het verleden.

We have watched that movie three times.

We have been watching that movie three times. (andere betekenis)


Exercise: Zet onderstaande zinnen om in een Continuous.

Voorbeeld:

I do my homework on Sundays I am doing my homework now.

1 We play the guitar in the weekends. (present simple present continuous)

2 He drives his car to work. (present simple present continuous)

3 I listened to the radio yesterday. (past simple past continuous)

4 She slept all through the night. (past simple past continuous)

5 Thomas has cooked for two hours now. (present perfect PPC)

6 They have played on the computer since 11 AM. (present perfect PPC)


Exercise: Zet onderstaande zinnen om in een Continuous.

Voorbeeld:

I do my homework on Sundays I am doing my homework now.

1 We play the guitar in the weekends. We are playing the guitar now/at the moment.

2 He drives his car to work. He is driving his car to work right now/now.

3 I listened to the radio yesterday. I was listening to the radio yesterday.

4 She slept all through the night. She was sleeping all through the night.

5 Tom has cooked for two hours now. Tom has been cooking for two hours now.

6 They have played on the computer since 11 AM.

They have been playing on the computer since 11 AM.


Exercise: Vertaal onderstaande zinnen naar het Engels.

1 Ik dans in het weekend.

2 Hij zat gisteren met zijn zus te bellen.

3 Ik ken hem sinds de basisschool (=primary school).

4 Zij kocht eergisteren een boek in de stad.

5 Wij lopen nu naar de bibliotheek.
