1. English has fairly fixed word order compared with other languages. 영어는 다른 언어와 비교해서 상당히 고정된 단어순서를 가지고 있다.
2. The basic underlying word order in an English sentence is S-V-O. 영어문장의 바탕이 되는 단어순서는 주어-동사-목적어(S-V-O)이다.
3. This fixed word order operates in conjunction with prepositions. 이 고정된 단어순서는 전치사와 결합한다.
4. Thus, we say that English is an S-V-O language. Perhaps the most ubiquitous constituent that we have introduced in our phrase structures is the prepositional phrases (PrepP).
그래서 영어를 S-V-O언어라고 부른다. 아마도 그 동안 우리가 사용한 말 중에 가장 많이 도처에서 사용한 것은 전치사구 일 것이다.
