Join the Dean Forest Railway Society today

– help preserve over 200 years of railway

history in the Forest for future generations The line began as a tramroad in 1810, and

was retained by British Railways until

1985. Today’s Dean Forest Railway

Society began heritage operations on a

small siding at Parkend in 1971, with the

aim of preserving and operating the last

remaining section of the Severn and Wye

Railway, moving to develop the Norchard

site in 1978, followed by extensions

towards Lydney Junction (1995) and

Parkend (2006).

The Society has been at the forefront of

the growth of the DFR, and today exists

as the membership body for the railway.

It raises funds for specific projects,

recruits volunteers, publishes magazines

and books, promotes the railway at

events and supports the DFR’s ongoing

development.

Receive a colourful, quarterly

magazine, packed full of news

and updates from the railway,

historical articles and much more.

Travel on the railway at a 50%

discount on normal running days

on production of a valid

membership card, plus cafe &

buffet discounts.

Influence the future of the

railway – an opportunity for you

to make and influence decisions

about the future of the railway.

Discount in the railway shop –

open daily at Norchard station and

online with a wide range of railway

books and other items.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Current projects at the DFR include the installation of signal boxes at Parkend

and Whitecroft, together with the continued restoration of the locomotive,

carriage and wagon fleet. The expansion of the Norchard site to include a

stage, together with the push to Speech House Road and Cinderford…… it is an

exciting time to get involved!

volunteer. Volunteering at the DFR provides an

opportunity to meet new people, gain new skills

and help to preserve the past for the benefit of

the present and future.
