Workshop 5 Pre-assessment for Goal 3
In groups, plan for a range of play -based activities in the learning
environment based around your new classroom theme or topic.
Look at the example based around the theme of ‘The Sea’
Complete the handout for your new theme giving an example for each of
the 8 play areas
Theme : The Sea
Socio Dramatic Play sailors uniforms, fishing rods, diving gear and large boxes and sheets to construct a
boat
Fantasy Play using blue cellophane and
tissue paper create and under sea world
Exploratory Play water play, investigating
floating and sinking, properties of water, add funnels cups bottles and
jugs
Games with Rules fishing game with fishing rod
and magnets, cut out fish shapes with paper clips
Manipulative Play create and construct
playdough, styro foam and alfoil boats, test out in the
water play area
Physical Play swimming pool or paddling
pool or trip to beach, paddling wading and
splashing in the water
Indoor Play using paper plates, collage materials
and a variety of scrap paper create fish and other sea creatures to decorate
the under water world in fantasy play
Outdoor Play using chalk, create sea creature
drawings on the pavers and then construct a plank, crates and tyre
pathway, so thatchildren can travel across the play area without falling in
the sea
