    Outline:

    Reasons for Choice of Courses

Communication and analytical skills I have acquired through the study of my A-Level subjects will be greatly beneficialto me at university stage. An important factor in my choice of degree course is that of my career intentions. I hope to use my degree to becomea Speech Therapist. This career path intrigues me greatly as I have a strong interest in linguistics and the humanpsyche. Having seen my grandfather recover from a stroke and the effects it has had on his speech has furtherstrengthened my resolve to become a speech therapist. However, I have also chosen other courses that, whilstsatisfying my interests in language and linguistics, open up other career possibilities to me, such as teaching.

Work Experience-I completed my work experience in my local primary school with a Primary 1 class. This gave me an awareness of ateaching environment and an appreciation of what working life is like.-I also participate in Teaching Practice through my school which enables me to work with Primary 6 pupils.-I currently work, part-time, as a Healthcare Assistant in Boots the Chemist. I am undertaking a specialised trainingcourse for this position in preparation for an examination. My job requires me to interact with members of the publicwho have come to the Pharmacy with health queries. I then have to recommend suitable medication, whilst taking intoaccount many factors such as their age, symptoms and other illnesses. I feel that this is a very responsible position to

have which requires me to be dedicated, attentive and compassionate. Although it is, at times, difficult andchallenging, it is very rewarding.

I am also reading books on the subjects of Philosophy, as this is astrong interest of mine, and Ancient Egypt, as I find this period of history fascinating and presents such a vastlydifferent world to our own.-I listen to various types of music ranging from orchestral to rock.I attend live concerts regularly and I also am teaching myself to play the guitar, which I have found difficult but am

determined to keep trying.-I have been a member of the Guiding Association for 9 years. On joining the Guides I received an award for Best NewRecruit.

Having majored in literary studies (world literature) as an undergraduate, I would now like to concentrate on

    English and American literature.
