Kemang 1 Room, Discovery Hotel - Jakarta

Osteoporosis is a degenerative bone disease,

consequence of many factors that affect bone

cellular regulation. Bone degeneration is not

just about aging process but also reection

    of incompetency of piezoelectrohumeral

pathway in bone tissue. Osteoporosis will

lead to further complication and affected the

quality of life. This one day workshop aims to

    provide participants with an evidence-based

clinical reasoning approach to the diagnosis

    and management of osteoporosis.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVES

    • Describe patophysiology and pathomechanic

    of osteoporosis

    • Describe the algorithm of diagnosis of

    osteoporosis

    • Describe indications for performing bone

    densitometry, using DXA.

    • The use of the WHO FRAX algorithm for

fracture risk.• Discuss a strategy for pharmacological

    management of osteoporosis, including

    options for administration and potential

    adverse effects.

    • Advise patients about adherence to

    medications for osteoporosis, guidelines for

taking oral and injection of bisphosphonates.

    pharmacological approaches in the overall

    treatment plan, including the current

    recommendations for exercise and orthoses.

    WORKSHOP 7: DysphagiaFriday, October 9 (8 am - 5 pm)

Asha Rehabilitation Clinic , Jl. Johar No. 1A

    Gondangdia, Menteng - Jakarta

Oropharyngeal Dysphagia (OD) is a very

    frequent condition among stroke, carcinoma

nasopharing, and geriatric patient. There are

several validated methods of screening, and

    clinical assessment. Fiberoptic Endoscopic

Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) has become

a globally recognized gold standard for

    evaluating oropharyngeal dysphagia and for

    assessing swallowing function. OD causes

    malnutrition, dehydration, impaired quality

of life, lower respiratory tract infections,

    aspiration pneumonia, and poor prognosis,

including prolonged hospital stay and enhanced

morbidity and mortality. This workshop will

give systematic review and universal screening,

technique for dysphagia to prevent its severe

    complications.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES• Identify normal versus abnormal swallowing

WORKSHOP 15: The Use of ICF inAssessment of DisabilitiesFriday, October 9 (8 am - 5 pm)

DCC 3 Room, Discovery Hotel - Jakarta

The International Classication of Functioning,Disability and Health (ICF) is a frameworkfor describing and organizing informationon the functioning and disability. It providesa standard language and a conceptual basisfor the denition and measurement of healthand disability. The ICF was approved for use

by the World Health Assembly in 2001, afterextensive testing across the world involvingpeople with disabilities and people from a rangeof relevant disciplines. The ICF integrates themajor models of disability. It recognizes therole of environmental factors in the creation ofdisability, as well as the relevance of associatedhealth conditions and their effects.

This workshop will discuss about the role of usingICF in rehabilitation. Knowing how a diseaseaffects one’s functioning enables better planningof services, treatment, and rehabilitation forpersons with long-term disabilities or chronic

conditions. The current ICF creates a moreintegrated understanding of health forming acomprehensive prole of an individual insteadof focusing on one’s health condition. Theimplications of using the ICF include emphasizingon the strengths of individuals, assistingindividuals in participating more extensivelyin society by the use of interventions aimedat enhancing their abilities, and taking intoconsideration the environmental and personalfactors that might hamper one’s participation.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES• Become familiar with the benet of using ICF• Understand the principles of ICF• Know the ICF component• Apply ICF in clinical practice

    WORKSHOP 16: NeurogenicBladderFriday, October 9 (8 am - 5 pm)

Kecapi Room, Discovery Hotel - Jakarta

Neurogenic bladder is when a person lacks

bladder control due to a brain, spinal cord

or nerve problem. This includes people with

    Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease

and spina bida, and people who have had

stroke or spinal cord injury. Major pelvic

surgery, diabetes and other illnesses can also

damage nerves that control the bladder.

The participant of this workshop will learn

some Urodynamic studies of which are very

important in assessing problems such as

    uncontrolled bladder contractions,urethral

    competence during lling,Bladder function

during voiding ,residual urine after urination.

Those information are crucial in understanding

the pathology of the disease in order to

WORKSHOP GP: UnderstandingImmobilitation Problem and Disabilityof LBP with its Practical PMRManagement for General PractitionersSaturday, October 10 (8 am - 12 pm)

Kemang 2 Room, Discovery Hotel - Jakarta

Low back pain (LBP) is a common reason forpatient calls or visits to a primary care clinician..The history and physical examination usuallyprovide clues to the rare but potentially seriouscauses of LBP, as well as to identify patients at

    risk for prolonged recovery.

This workshop will provide general practitionerswith evidence based education to improvethe assessment & management of LBP for thepatients. It will discuss about causes of low backpain, red ags in LBP, physical examination ingeneral and also examined from rehabilitationviewpoint, activity limitation (disability in lowback pain), management for LBP and referral toPMR specialist if needed.

Physical inactivity and the resultant physicaldeconditioning have been hypothesized tobe associated with both the etiology and the

consequence of chronic LBP. The restorationof function through intensive physicalrehabilitation intervention continues toform the basis of many rehabilitation-guidedtraining program. This approach is in partbased on the hypothesis of the ‘deconditioningsyndrome’ in which deconditioning itself isseen as a factor contributing to the intoleranceto physical activities and subsequent anddisability in patients with chronic LBP.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES• Understand the red ags and identify the

appropriate criteria for evidence-basedinvestigations that is needed for LBP

    • Understand disability in low back pain• Identify the needs for referrals• Familiar with the term deconditioning and

understand what is health risks associatedwith deconditioning
