简单的一句话究竟蕴涵着画家多少的汗水

和辛劳？有多少人能从小就怀抱着这么明确的目

标？又有多少人能在长大后不向现实低头，从一

而终地朝着自己的梦想前进？

小学四年级时，廖彼得偶然看见同学的哥

哥在作画，心中仿佛受到了某种牵引。那是一种

既感动又美妙的感觉，也因此立志要当一名画家。

踏上这场追逐艺术之梦的征途，历经了无数艰苦

的青春岁月，廖彼得不屈不挠和乐观的精神，成

就了今天这名享誉国际的大马知名油画家。

廖彼得出生在霹雳州金马仑山脚下，从

小在大自然的怀抱中成长，培养出对大自然

的浓郁情感，也在大自然中找到自我。那是他

可以尽情抒发内心情感之处，是精神理想的

依归。安静宁谧的大自然，对他是无限和永

恒，他从中真正地受到感动，并且把感动真

诚地描绘，借此传播给他人。他的话语就在

他的画作中尽情流露。

画家的创作艺术是以平面二维的方式尽

可能将三维空间的景物一一呈现。但在廖彼

得的画笔和油刀下，画布上的景色仿佛被赋予

了生命，栩栩如生地反映画家创作时的心境与

当下的氛围。有一位法国评论家曾形容他的画

作是：“由一层层厚的抽象画，而组成一个具

体的作品。”因此，看廖彼得的画，你必须从“

远距离”看过去，才能领悟到画中的醍醐味。

此次的“廖彼得回顾展”是画家展开了

40年的艺术之旅后，首次举办回顾展，可谓

别具意义。届时将展出约55幅画作，沿着时

间线呈现三个主题：自然静物、人文景观及

人物面面观，呈现出画家的人生路线图：他

所到过的、他所留恋的及他所崇敬的。

在这科技日新月异的时代，你是否会偶

忙碌疲惫的日常喧嚣中，你是否有余裕去孕

让我们借由此展，一起走进廖彼得的

艺术世界，透过他挥洒自如的创作，感受大

自然及周遭人、事、物的美，来丰裕及滋润

我们的心灵。

How much sweat and toil has resulted from this simple thought? How many people can possess this kind of clarity from such a tender age? And how many more can actually persevere and pursue their dreams despite the harsh realities as they grow up?

Peter Liew was 10 when he found his heart being pulled in with fascination at the sight of his friend’s brother painting. That moment which moved his entire being and left him with wonder, inspired him to pursue art. This artistic journey was filled with countless days and nights of hardships during his

youth. However, his spirit of perseverance and optimism helped him to endure and overcome them, and eventually making him an internationally renowned oil-painting artist today.

Peter Liew was born in Tapah, Perak, a small town situated at the foot of Cameron Highlands. He grew up embracing the beauty of nature and cultivated a strong sense of affection for the environment. Freely expressing his emotions and his spiritual ideals, he finds his true self in the great mother nature. Deeply touched by her tranquility and peacefulness, he decided to share that feeling through his artistic portrayal. Therefore, his dialogue with nature is revealed in his paintings.

An artist’s work is to present the three-dimensional scenes through two-dimensional plane. But in his paintings, Peter Liew has discovered and rediscovered life, showing life in all its sensorial splendour, vividly reflecting the artist’s emotions, thoughts and atmospheres during the process of creation. A French art critic once described his painting as a

concrete art piece made up of layers of abstract paintings. Therefore, one must view his artworks at a distance to grasp the genuine soul and spirit of the paintings.

Peter Liew has been touring around the world holding numerous exhibitions over the last two decades. This will be the first retrospective exhibition in his 40-year art odyssey. The exhibition will showcase around 55 artworks of Peter Liew, organised chronologically based on three themes: nature, cultural heritage and the faces, presenting the journey of the painter’s life – what he has seen, loved and admired.
