Debemos tratar a cada persona con respecto y amor, comprendiendo que esta persona podría tener otras opiniones, otras formas de vivir y con diferentes valores, pero podemos aprender a amar estas diferencias y utilizarlas simplemente de una forma creativa para crecer y desarrollarnos personalmente. Hip hop superstar Snoop Dogg will be headlining the ‘I Want my MTV’ opening party on Friday, 1st July at Amnesia. Snoop continues to occupy the throne as the world’s most famous rapper. His timeless and groundbreaking debut album ‘Doggystyle’ was an instant classic, selling almost a million copies in the first week of its release. MTV Spain will be promoting the weekly MTV shows at Amnesia across their channels throughout the summer, along with MTV HD, broadcasting to 27 countries worldwide.

Heath – tell us a bit about you, your time as a DJ at Bora Bora, and anything else you’re doing at the moment.Well, I started at Bora Bora in 2005 after doing, I suppose, an apprenticeship in different bars in the port before I got my own residency. I had gotten to know the guys at Bora Bora so one day – about a year and a half after I met them - I decided to give them a demo – and soon after I received the phone call. One of my most recent collaborations is with Sonny Fodera who’s just been voted one of the top young DJs under 25 in the world. He’s very cool – and he’s also from my home town, Adelaide in Australia.

What’s the difference between a good DJ and a bad DJ?Public opinion!! It’s the public who decides that! I love to see a good DJ work hard, using their technical skills as well as good music. The best DJs take you on a musical journey and the innovators for me are people like Steve Lawler and John Digweed in particular who take you on that journey and will take the music as far as they can go.As for bad DJs, well, electronic music isn’t about noise and commercial tracks. I work really hard to try and represent what Ibiza’s about when I play, and I want to give people something they won’t hear anywhere else.

Comparing Ibiza now and six years ago, what’s been the best and worst changes?The worst changes were thanks to the government making strict rules and stopping 24 hour parties – they could have at least left weekends alone! I remember in particular the after parties at Bora Bora, after Matinee at Space, just after I started there. Everyone would come to them. The government also came down hard on the bars in the port by restricting

the music and times – I think the politicians squashed this area with so much control. It’s great to see the regeneration of Playa d’en Bossa this year though and the fact people have much more choice, although the competition now between places is much stronger.

What advice would you give to any aspiring DJs who want to try and survive summer 2011?It’s good to listen to different DJs and in different venues to show you what people expect you to listen to. When I started looking for work in Ibiza I was told my sound was too hard for bars and too soft for clubs. The next year, I managed to make two demo CDs – one for bars and one for clubs – which worked, but only because I had done my research!Your approach to people in the industry is very important – you should never be too pushy. It’s important to be confident and believe in your qualities but don’t be too forward. And remember that the big opportunities don’t come overnight.

What’s your favourite place to hang-out when you’re not at Bora Bora?There are so many great places to eat in Ibiza but I’ll name my favourites – Passion Café in Playa d’en Bossa for good quality, healthy foods. Cap d’es Falco is my favourite place to watch the sunset and Salinas is a great place to go with friends. I also love the Fish Shack in Talamanca – they only serve fresh fish, potatoes and salad – but it’s amazing.

Heath, cuéntanos algo sobre ti, el tiempo que llevas como DJ en Bora Bora y cualquier otra cosa que estés haciendo actualmente.Bueno, comencé en Bora Bora en el 2005 tras realizar, supongo, un aprendizaje por diferentes bares del puerto antes de conseguir mi propia residencia. Había conocido a la gente del Bora Bora, así que un día (más o menos año y medio después de conocerles) decidí darles una demo, y pronto recibí una llamada. Una de mis colaboraciones más recientes es con Sonny Fodera, que acaba de ser votado como uno de los mejores DJs jóvenes de menos de 25 años del mundo. Es un buen tipo, además de ser de mi ciudad natal Adelaida, en Australia.

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre un buen DJ y un mal DJ?¡¡La opinión pública!! ¡Es el público el que decide!! Me encanta ver a un buen DJ trabajar duro, utilizando sus habilidades técnicas además de buena música. El mejor DJ te lleva a un viaje musical y los innovadores para mí son gente como Steve Lawler y John Digweed en particular, que te hacen viajar y llevarán la música tan lejos como puedan. En relación a los DJs malos, bueno, la música electrónica no va sobre ruido y canciones comerciales. Trabajo muy duro para intentar hacer un buen trabajo y representar lo que es Ibiza cuando actúo, y quiero darle a la gente algo que no oirán en ningún otro sitio.

Comparando Ibiza ahora y hace seis años, ¿cuáles han sido los mejores y los peores cambios?Los peores cambios fueron gracias al gobierno, que impuso reglas estrictas y prohibió las fiestas de 24 horas (¡podían haber dejado al menos los fines de semana!). Recuerdo en particular las fiestas “after” en Bora Bora, después de Matinee en Space, precisamente después de empezar allí. Todos podían venir. El gobierno también fue contra los bares del puerto

restringiendo la música y los horarios (creo que los políticos perjudicaron a esta zona con tanto control). No obstante, es genial ver la regeneración de Playa d’en Bossa este año y el hecho de que la gente tiene muchas más alternativas, aunque la competencia entre las distintas zonas es mucho mayor.

¿Qué consejo le darías a un aspirante a DJ que quiere intentarlo y sobrevivir al verano del 2011?Es bueno escuchar a diferentes DJs y en diferentes escenarios para hacerte ver lo que la gente quiere oír. Cuando empecé a buscar trabajo en Ibiza, me dijeron que mi sonido era demasiado duro para los bares y demasiado suave para los clubs. Al año siguiente, me las arreglé para hacer dos CDs de demostración (uno para los bares y otro para los clubs, que funcionaron, ¡pero solo porque había investigado previamente!Tu aproximación a la gente de la industria es muy importante (nunca debes ser demasiado agresivo). Es importante tener confianza y creer en tus posibilidades, pero sin ser demasiado atrevido, y es importante recordar que las grandes oportunidades no aparecen de la noche a la mañana.

¿Cuál es tu lugar favorito para ir cuando no estás en Bora Bora?Hay muchos lugares fantásticos para comer en Ibiza, pero voy a citar mis favoritos: “Passion café” en Playa d´en Bossa para encontrar buena calidad, comida sana. “Cap d´es Falco” es mi favorito para admirar la puesta de sol, y “Salinas” es un sitio fantástico para ir con amigos. También me gusta “Fish Shack” en Talamanca (solo sirven pescado fresco, patatas y ensalada, pero es encantador).

This beautiful restaurant and music lounge, with swimming pool and chill-out area, is located behind the busy bar street of Playa d’en Bossa. However, it’s like stepping into a little part of Sardinia as you experience authentic signature dishes such as spaghetti with sea urchin, the freshest fish dishes, and BBQ, as well as delicious cocktails. After dinner, Shardana becomes a music lounge. Thursday is pre-party for Monza, Friday hosts the weekly event Aperitive in Music with local and surprise DJs, and Sunday will host a collection of events with only vinyl.
