    Teledyne Paradise Datacom has a rich history in the designand production of Gallium Nitride (GaN) based SSPAs. Ourengineers utilize innovative linearization techniques thatenable GaN amplifiers to produce linear output power with thesame efficiency as tube based amplifier systems. A completefamily of Satcom amplifiers has been developed that coverS-Band through Ku-Band.

    GaN amplifiers have a superior set of mutually beneficial char-acteristics, including:

    These GaN amplifier modules are installed in the popular 3RU(5.25 inch high) Chassis, which features a front panel displayand five fault condition LEDs that reflect some of the SSPAmajor fault states. Local/Remote and Mute/Unmute LEDs showthe current control mode and mute state of the amplifier.

    A full compliment of remote monitor and control of the amplifieris available at the rear panel, including: RS-232/RS-485; Ether-net, with UDP and SNMP control; Web Browser TCP/IP; andDiscrete hardware (parallel port) signals.

    L-Band Operation

    Teledyne Paradise Datacom amplifiers are available with an integrated L-Band Block UpConverter. The L-Band units utilize Teledyne Paradise Datacoms proprietary zBUCtechnology. The addition of a zBUC converter to the SSPA typically increases the gain by2-4 dB. Tha advantages of zBUC technology include: zBUC converter can detect and switch to an extenally supplied reference. Optional internal high stability (10MHz) reference. zBUC converter can lock to an externally supplied reference of 5, 10, 20, 25, or 50 MHz

    without modification. zBUC converter can accept a wide range of external reference power (-10 to +5 dBm) zBUC converter can accept FSK monitor and control signal via the IFL for complete

    amplifer remote control.

    True RMS Output Power Measurement

    Historically, Satcom SSPAs have utilized simple diode peak detectors for the measurement ofRF output power. This results in considerable error depending on the type of modulation andnumber of carriers that are being amplified. The new generation of Teledyne ParadiseDatacom SSPAs include true RMS output power detection. This means that the RF outputpower that is reported over the remote control is very near power meter accuracy.

    1RU N+1 Redundant Power Supply

    The combination of a separate, fully redundant power supply is an excellent means of obtain-ing the ultimate in system reliability.

    The power supply is an N+1 redundant configuration, meaning that there is one more powersupply module available than required to operate the SSPA. A failure of one power supplymodule will not take the amplifier off the air.

    In addition, the power supply modules are removable from the front panel while in operation.There is never a need to remove the power supply chassis from the equipment rack.

    The power supply has a single phase, universal AC input rating from 90-265 VAC, 46-63 Hz.

    It is power factor corrected to 0.99 and is configured with up to four hot-swappable powersupply modules, depending on the power requirements of the SSPA.

    A variety of receive band reject filters are available for S-Band amplifier. On certain models,these filters may be integrated inside the amplifier enclosure, while on others the filter willhave to be externally connected to the amplifier. Consult with the factory for details.

    The filter used for frequency band 2.02 - 2.12 GHz is model L205250-S3-TX.

    The filter used for frequency band 2.20 - 2.30 GHz is model L205250-S4-TX.

    The filter used for frequency band 1.70 - 2.12 GHz is model L205250-S11-TX (400W max.).

    X-Band GaN amplifiers may be ordered with an external receive band reject filter. The filterused for frequency band 7.90 - 8.40 GHZ is model L205250-X6-TX.
