Greetings from Pastor Doug,

Please take note of the following list showing our liturgical calendar and the parament colors that accompany the church year. We are truly blessed to continue to receive gifts toward updating each set of paraments at OSLC for the coming church year.

Adent — Blue — Blue signifies hope, reflecting an emphasis on waiting in hope for the coming of the Savior, the Lord incarnate. Christmas — White — White signifies joy and celebration. A Savior is born, a King has come. Epiphany — Green — Green signifies growth in mission knowing the Light of the world has come to us in the person of Jesus Christ. Lent — Purple — Purple signifies penitence and self-denial, a time for reflection and repentance as one approaches the passion of the Christ. Easter — White — White signifies the joy of the resurrection of the Savior who has come to save us from our sins. It is the best news this world has ever known. Pentecost — Red — Red signifies the Holy Spirit whose fire rouses our life of faith. The rest of Pentecost season is green as the church grows and develops its mission.

Even though the church year begins with the season of Advent in late November or early December, I would like to call your attention to the Lenten season and the upcoming Easter celebration. We are currently living out our faith journey in the midst of a season of self-examination, reflection and repentance, contemplating the sacrifice Christ has made for each of us on the cross of Calvary. Lent is a time to prepare our hearts and minds for the most important event in all of Christendom, Jesus’ death and resurrection from the dead. As Easter people we are privileged to celebrate God’s saving grace this coming Easter Sunday and every Sunday throughout the year.

Our church year revolves around this victorious event which is the foundation of our Christian faith. Without the Good News of the resurrection of our Lord and Savior we would have nothing to base our faith, hope and future upon, nothing to look forward to after this life on earth.

So then, as we anticipate the Easter celebration this March 27th, I invite you to continue during these 40 days of Lent to worship, pray, fast, meditate and reflect upon how God is transforming you and us in faith. The Lenten schedule is printed in this newsletter. Your participation can be life changing!

May we seek to honor and serve the Lord Jesus, the One who willingly sacrificed His life for our lives!

VBS is one of our biggest outreach ministries to children at OSLC and the community every summer.

Would you consider sponsoring a child to attend VBS? $20 per child (or any amount you would prayerfully considering

donating). $20 provides a t-shirt, material, fun learning the word of Jesus through stories, music, games and craft experiments. We have a goal of sponsoring 100 children to attend VBS this summer. Look for the VBS sponsorship poster by the coat racks, pick up an envelope to provide a financial donation and place it in the drop box to the OSLC

Office Manager’s office. Thank you in advance for your support!

Would you like to sponsor an Easter Lily to adorn our sanctuary on Easter morning? The cost is $12 each and you may take your Lily home after the 9:00 a.m. Easter Sunday Worship service.

There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board above the water fountain. Thank you!

There are several Sundays still available for opportunities to sponsor worship altar flowers. Please check the altar flower poster on the bulletin board above the water fountain or

call the church office for more information.

Wellness Tip—A monthly feature from the OSLC Wellness Ministry Team

Sitting: The New Cancer Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, identified sitting as the ―new cancer‖. Whether this is a marketing ploy or not, the statement has merit. New studies on the ill-effects of prolonged sitting surface weekly

establishing that prolonged sitting can damage overall health. Not only can it add to stress, induce binge-eating promoting obesity, it can damage our metabolism, making one susceptible

to cancer, cardiovascular diseases, bone troubles and much more.

It takes little effort to increase your activity during the day: walk to the mailbox, park the car farther from your destination, get up to talk to a co-worker versus sending an email,

make multiple trips up and down your stairs instead of one major trip, take a walk instead of reading for hours, etc. Get up every hour and move at home and at work. Doing these little

things can greatly enhance your overall being. So avoid the ―new cancer‖ and get moving.

Galatians 6:4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without

comparing himself to somebody else, for each one should carry his own load.

Kids Choir and Confirmation families: please note that youth who stay after choir and confirmation on Wednesdays to play in the gym or outside are unsupervised. Choir directors stay until 3:45 p.m.

to ensure that choir members have been picked up or are on their way. The church doors are usually locked at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.

VBS is one of our biggest outreach ministries to children at OSLC and the community every summer.

Would you consider sponsoring a child to attend VBS? $20 per child (or any amount you would prayerfully considering

Look for the VBS sponsorship poster by the coat racks, pick up an envelope to provide a financial donation and place it in the drop box to the OSLC

Office Manager’s office. Thank you in advance for your support!
