dEntal ‘hoW-to’. dental assisting students not only must perfect their chairside skills with patients, but also learn how to make denture trays. last week instructor donna pruItt (above left) taught students like FrancEscka WallacE (inset) how to create and fit a “spacer” into a denture tray (which the students previously made). the result is a custom tray made specifically for patients requiring dentures.

WorkIng smartEr. graphic design, acc’s print center and computer-Integrated machining all contributed a solution to mass produce packaging labels to sell lettuce and other vegetables grown in horticulture’s hydroponic (soil-less) greenhouse. pursuing an idea by horticulture dept. head justin snyder, graphic design students designed the labels (pictured) but instructor denise archuleta’s research revealed that mass-produced labels would cost more than projected if using an outside vendor. that’s when becki paskins, acc’s print center supervisor, found an adhesive, waterproof paper to use for the labels. With the assistance of adam self (left), machining dept. head, archuleta and paskins aligned graphic design’s digital files of the labels with machining’s laser cutter engraver, equipment that normally precision-cuts a design from metal and other alloys, not paper products.
