  • Attitudes

    Attitude

    Is an evaluative statement either favorable or unfavorable about objects, people, or events. It reflects how we feel about something. e.g. I like OB course.

    Components of Attitude

    Cognition Component

    Affective Component

    Behavioral Component

    Cognition Component

    this involves a persons belief / knowledge about an attitude object. e.g. May pay is low.

    Affective Component

    this involves a persons feelings / emotions about the attitude object e.g. I am scared of spiders.

    Behavioral Component (conative)

    the way the attitude we have influences how we act or behave. e.g. I am going to look for a job that will pay me better.

    Does Behavior always follow the attitude?

    The attitude people hold determine what they do. e.g. We watch TV Programs that we like, we tend to avoid the assignments we find difficult

    Cognitive Dissonance: It refers to any incompatibility between two or more attitudes or between attitudes and behaviors.

    Job Satisfaction

    A positive feeling about ones job resulting from an evaluation of its characteristics

    Job Involvement

    The degree to which a person identifies with a job, actively participates in it, and considers performance important to self worth.

    Another closely related concept is Psychological Empowerment which refers to employees belief in the degree to which they affect their work environment, their competencies, the meaningfulness of their job, and perceived autonomy in job.

    Organizational Commitment

    The degree to which an employee identifies with a particular organization and its goals, and wishes to maintain membership in the organization.

    It has three components:

    Affective Commitment (Emotional attachment)

    Continuance Commitment (Perceived economic value)

    Normative Commitment (Moral or Ethical)

    Perceived organizational Support

    Employees Engagement and Job Engagement
