NORTH KOREA BEFORE YOU GO
Under North Korean law, every group of foreign
tourists must have at least two accompanying
local North Korean tour guides at all times. This
is regardless of whether the “group” is made
one or more tourists. Tourists are strongly dis-
couraged to wander out of the hotel without the
guides.
These guides are usually caring, entertaining and
professional. They are there to serve, guide and
keep tourists safe. When tourists break any
laws, they are also putting their guides at risk.
Itineraries may be changed at the last minute
due to events in North Korea or otherwise, even
after the tour has commenced. These changes,
usually implemented by the North Korean gov-
ernment, affect all tourists in North Korea. We
cannot bear any responsibility for such occur-
rences.
An example is that a certain area may suddenly
be declared out of bounds to tourists due to a
political event (eg. meeting between politicians
at the DMZ, border between North and South
Korea).
If there should be such an unfortunate turn of
events, the tour guides will usually make alter-
native plans.

INDEPENDENT TOURS from China Dandong/Beijing
Independent tours are suitable for:
Tourists who prefer not to travel with gen-
eral group tours.
Tourists who prefer to travel either alone or
only with their own friends/family.
Tourists who prefer to customise their own
itineraries/schedules, including length of
stay in North Korea.
Just as for our group tours, independent
tours depart daily.( train from Dandong runs
every day/ flight from Beijing– Pyongyang
according to the schedule of flight )( train
ride tour is more economic than flight from
Beijng).
Upon request, we can suggest some sample
itineraries. Please contact us for suggestions,
giving preferences for places to visit, number
of days of stay, number of tourists, etc.
More information on sample itineraries and
prices can be found on our website
www.explorenorthkorea.com under
“Independent Tours”.
TOUR CODE: IDXA
Kim Il Sung Square Pyongyang
Points to note:
Under North Korean law, there will be a min-
imum of two local Korean tour guides ac-
companying every tour group, regardless of
whether the “group” consists of one person
or more.
With the exception of movement within ho-
tel premises, it is compulsory for all tourists
to be accompanied by these official tour
guides. Truly independent (unguided) tour-
ing in North Korea is not possible.
For customised itineraries, approval from the
relevant North Korean departments must be
obtained. This can take some time, so ad-
vanced planning is recommended.
Just as with group tours, independent tour
itineraries may be changed at the last mi-
nute due to events in North Korea or other-
wise, even after the tour has commenced.
These changes, usually implemented by the
North Korean government, affect all tourists
in North Korea. We cannot bear any respon-
sibility for such occurrences. In the unfortu-
nate event that itineraries need to be
changed, he local guides will usually be able
to make alternative plans.
