THE INSTITUTE National Institute of Technology (Institution of National Importance), Kurukshetra (erstwhile Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra established in 1963, a joint and cooperative enterprise of the Government of India and the State of Haryana) earned its current status on June 26, 2002. The Institute has the objective of imparting instructions and research facilities in different disciplines of Engineering and Technology for the advancement of learning and dissemination of technical knowledge and to provide continuous industrial interaction. The Institute is financially and administratively controlled by the Govt. of India, MHRD, New Delhi. It is registered under the Societies Act managed and governed by an autonomous Board of Governors vested with full powers for administration and management of affairs of the Institute. At present, it offers courses of study leading to the 4-year B.Tech. degrees in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production & Industrial Engineering and Information Technology; 2-year M.Tech. Degrees in all the above mentioned disciplines (except Information Technology) and also in Instrumentation, Nanotechnology, VLSI Design, Embedded System Design, Renewal Energy Systems, Biomedical Engineering, Material science and Nanotechnology; Ph.D. Degree in all above departments and in the various fields of Applied Sciences and Humanities. The institute also offers master’s program in Computer Application and Business Administration (MCA & MBA). Kurukshetra, steeped in history and mythology, is a place of great spiritual significance where Lord Krishna delivered the divine message of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita, and from where knowledge spread far and wide. The place was aptly chosen as his capital by King Harshawardhana. Kurukshetra is located on the Delhi-Ambala section of Northern Railway, at about 160 km from Delhi. The Institute campus is 6 km from Kurukshetra Rail Junction and about 10 km from Pipli, a well known road junction on National Highway No.1 (Sher Shah Suri Marg).

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. The format of Application Form for admission to a particular course comprises the

ABSTRACT FORM and the relevant APPLICATION FORM for admission. The form is to be filled by those candidates who want to be admitted through direct admission against seats not covered by CCMT-2013 (as given in section 1.2) and also by the candidates seeking admission on vacant seats covered by CCMT-2013 in the spot round.

2. Counselling for admissions will take place as per counselling schedule displayed on

website. No separate interview letters will be issued.

3. A candidate who furnishes particulars which are found to be false or suppresses material information, will not be considered for admission and if he / she is admitted on the basis of such information, not withstanding legal action under the law of the land, his / her admission shall be cancelled and all fees deposited by him / her forfeited.

4. Before accepting the admission, the candidate must also ensure that he / she fulfills the

minimum eligibility conditions. For admission through CCMT-13, the candidate should visit www.ccmt.in for downloading Information Brochure and on-line submission of application.

For direct admission, the Application Form may be downloaded from the Institute website ( www.nitkkr.ac.in). A Bank Draft of Rs.1,000/- in favor of Director, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra payable at SBI, Kurukshetra, must accompany the duly filled in application form.

5. Except for the issue of (provisional) admission letters, if required, the Institute will not enter into any correspondence in regard to selection of candidates for admission. Interim enquiries will not be attended to.

6. The admission to National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra is subject to the

academic regulations for post graduate programmes as laid down by the institute.

7. The decision of the director in all matters related to admission shall be final.

8. General

(i) The admission rules and procedure are subject to alteration at any time without notice.

(ii) Hostel accommodation will be provided subject to availability of the same.

(iii)Any self addressed envelopes or postage stamps sent to the Institute will not be returned.

(iv) Dispute, if any, will be subject to Kurukshetra Jurisdiction.

Note:

Teaching in each academic year is divided into two semesters. The duration of the course is four

semesters for regular students and six semesters for part-time students (for NIT, Kurukshetra

employees only).

All the admitted candidates would be governed by the Academic Regulations for Post-Graduate

Programs, as laid down by the National Institute of Technology (Institution of National

Importance), Kurukshetra.

Procedure and admission rules for M.Tech. Degree Courses (Full-time)

In the academic session 2013-14, the admission to M.Tech. programs will be made mainly through Centralized Counseling for M.Tech. (CCMT-2013). For some seats the admissions will be made directly by the Institute itself through advertisement in newspapers/Institute website (www.nitkkr.ac.in).

1. Seats available for admission

1.1 Through CCMT-2013: The candidates are advised to visit (www.ccmt.in) for detailed information about admission procedure. The GATE qualified candidates shall be eligible for Institute scholarship as per Govt. of India rules. The seats available for admission through CCMT-2013 are given in Table 2.

1.2 Through Direct Admission

The Institute will make admissions directly through Institute level counseling in the academic session

2013-14 on (i) Sponsored seats for all branches and specialization (Table 3) and (ii) New M.Tech.

Programme (Table 4) in (a) Biomedical Engineering (b) Material Science & Nanotechnology. The

Institute scholarship shall be available to GATE qualified candidates only having valid GATE score

taking admission as non-sponsored candidates with score above cut off in respective GATE paper as

given in Table 6.

2. Eligibility for admission through Spot Round ( for CCMT-2013) as well as direct admission

2.1 Academic qualifications: In every program only certain combinations of qualifying degree disciplines and GATE subject are allowed. Details are given in Table 5. GATE qualified candidates should have GATE score above cut off as given in Table 6. A candidate to be eligible for admission to the Master of Technology courses in National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra should have passed B.Sc. (Engg.)/ B.Tech./B.E./ M. Sc. Degree or equivalent examination in the relevant discipline as mentioned below:

University provided the candidates concerned have passed these examinations by pursuing regular courses of studies. 2.2 Minimum Eligibility Qualifications: Minimum eligibility qualification is as given in Table 7 below.

On last date of applying, two years experience after graduation in the organization(s) of the types specified, out of which at least one year continuous experience should be as regular employee in thesponsoring organization

2. 3 Additional Eligibility conditions for admission on Sponsored seats:

In addition to academic qualifications required as mentioned above the applicant for sponsored seats must

(i) be sponsored by government Organisation / Public Sector Undertaking / Companies Regd. under Indian Companies Act 1956 Govt. / Govt. aided / Private Engineering Colleges / Polytechnics and

(ii) have two years experience after graduation in the organization(s) of the types specified on last

date of applying, out of which at least one year continuous experience should be as regular employee in the sponsoring organization.

Note: • NIT, Kurukshetra employees, if sponsored by the Institute, will be allowed to do Part-time

M.Tech. • Sponsored and non-GATE candidates will not be eligible for award of Institute scholarship.

3. Submission of Application

1. The application form can be downloaded from the Institute Website www.nitkkr.ac.in. 2. The Applications in the prescribed form must be completed in all respects, in the candidate’s

own handwriting and must also be accompanied by attested copies (as applicable) of the

following:

(i) University Certificate showing the detailed marks in all the subjects of all the semesters in the qualifying examination on the basis of which admission is being sought. (ii) Certificate of having qualified GATE indicating the score obtained therein.

(iii) Character Certificate from the Head of institution last attended.

(iv) Matriculation/ Higher Secondary Part –I Examination Certificate as a proof of age.

(v) OBC Certificate as per Format (Annexure-I)

(viii) PwD Certificate as per Format (Annexure-IV)

3. Candidates seeking admission in more than one M.Tech. Program/ Type of seat/ category,

should submit separate application complete in all respects, for each M.Tech. program.

4. The application complete in all respects should reach the Dean (Academic), National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra-136119, on or before the dates and time specified in Table 8(b).

IMPORTANT

• A candidate who furnishes particulars which are found to be false or suppresses material information will not be considered for admission. In case he has been admitted on such information, not withstanding legal action under the law of land, his admission shall be cancelled and all fees deposited by him, forfeited.

• Applications received late due to postal/ courier delay or otherwise or those which do not

furnish complete particulars or, do not enclose all the documents indicated in the application form, will not be considered.

4. Selection Procedure

GENERAL: • Admission will be based on merit. • For GATE qualified candidates, merit will be prepared based on valid GATE score. • For non-GATE candidates, merit list will be prepared by converting CGPA of any candidate

into its equivalent percentage Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice-versa given by individual institute/ University will not be considered/ allowed. CGPA will be converted to its equivalent percentage using the equivalence of 6.5 CGPA = 60 % rule for general/OBC category students and 6.0 CGPA = 55 % for SC/ST students.

• Sponsored seats shall be offered to sponsored candidates exclusively.

4.1 Admission through CCMT-2013: The applications should be submitted online through portal (http://www.ccmt.in). The Information Brochure and other details can be downloaded from the same website. For spot round, the schedule is given in Table 8.

4.2 Direct Admission: For the seats detailed in Section 1.2, the candidates should submit their applications directly to Dean (Academic), NIT, Kurukshetra, the last date of submission of which is as per counseling schedule (Table 8).

4.3 Counseling: The procedure for admission to seats available at institute level is given below.

1. . The application form is to be submitted ( see section 3) by

a. those candidates, who want to be admitted through direct admission against seats (in new programs) as given in Table 4, hereinafter referred as TYPE-A seats.

b. those candidates, who want to be admitted through direct admission against sponsored seats (as given in Table 3), hereinafter referred as TYPE-B seats.

c. the candidates, who are interested in getting admission through spot round against seats (of Table 2) remaining vacant after round 4 of CCMT-2013 / internal sliding / cancellations of admission, hereinafter referred as TYPE-C seats.

2. The date and time of receipt of duly filled in application form is given in schedule of counseling

3. Merit list for direct admission will be displayed on the Institute website OR on notice board of Jubilee hall as per counseling schedule. No separate interview/ information letters will be issued.

4. A candidate who furnishes particulars which are found to be false or suppresses material information, will not be considered for admission and if he / she is admitted on the basis of such

NOTE:

(i) The candidates reporting for counseling on July 22nd, 30th and 31st have to submit filled in application form along with all supporting documents, report and mark attendance between 9AM to 11AM on the day of counseling. No application form will be accepted after 11AM. Only those candidates who have reported before 11.00 A.M. will be considered for counseling.

For admission, the Application Form may be downloaded from the Institute website ( www.nitkkr.ac.in). A Bank Draft of Rs.1,000/- in favor of Director, National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra payable at SBI, Kurukshetra, must accompany the duly filled in application form. Applications submitted on any day of counseling as in Table 8(b) will also be considered for subsequent days of counseling provided the candidate is eligible on the day concerned for the Type of seat for which counseling is going to be held on subsequent day and the candidate marks attendance on subsequent day and is physically present during the allotment of seat on that subsequent day.

RULES FOR SEAT ALLOTMENT to GATE QUALIFIED candidates

• Seats will be first allotted to GATE qualified candidates and if seats remain unfilled, non-GATE candidates will be considered for admission.

• Seats will be allotted on the basis of choice preference filled and GATE score obtained by the candidate. The GATE score should be more than GATE cut off.

• To resolve and determine inter se merit of candidates having same GATE score, following criterion will be used in the stated order of preference.

• Candidates having GATE score in 2012 will be given preference over candidate having score of 2013.

• If years of GATE score is same, then the candidate who was born earlier will be given preference as compared to other candidates with tie.

• In highly unlikely event of their birth date being same i.e. same date of birth with same GATE score and year then preference will be given to that candidate who has passed qualifying exam in earlier academic year.

Note: Candidates not having migration certificate will be given provisional admission in M.Tech.; but, they will be required to submit migration certificate by 15th September. Provisional admission is also allowed for those students having valid GATE Score and result upto B.Tech./BE 7th Semester. For those candidates with valid GATE score and coming from Science stream and annual examination system, the results of the previous year will be considered. However, these students will furnish an undertaking to the effect that their admissions will be regularized only after clearance of the final examination and compliance to the academic qualifying requirements by the 15th September, 2013. Candidates applying for “Change in Specialization” need not deposit any application fee with application.

Allotment/ Filling of seats a. Applicants participating in “Change of Specialization” (i.e. internal sliding) will have to submit original allotment letter before allotment of new seat. They will give an undertaking that if new seat is allotted to them, they forfeit all claims to their previously allotted seat and hence on new allotment, the previously allotted seat will be cancelled automatically. Candidates who have been admitted to any institute in round 1-4 of CCMT-2013 are not eligible to participate in spot round until and unless they withdraw the admission during July 23-25, 2013 through CCMT-13 Physical reporting to the allotted institute. b. Non-sponsored seats will be first filled by GATE qualified candidates on the basis of merit as per valid GATE score. c. The remaining vacant seats after allotment as at (b) above will be filled by non-GATE candidates possessing minimum qualification. The merit list for such candidates shall be prepared on the basis of the aggregate % marks / grades (of all years) obtained in the degree course. d. For the remaining vacant seats after allotment as at (c) above, such non-GATE candidates whose result for final semester / year is awaited and have passed all earlier semesters / years, shall be considered for provisional admission. The merit list for such candidates shall be prepared on the basis of the aggregate % marks / grades obtained in all the semesters / years except final semester / year. • For candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from a University other than this Institute i.e. N.I.T. Kurukshetra, a Migration Certificate will have to be submitted ordinarily within one month of admission. In case the Migration Certificate is not submitted by 15th September 2013 the provisional admission of the student is likely to be cancelled as per Institute rules.

5. Duration of Course

(i) The normal duration of M.Tech. Program shall be four semesters for regular students. (ii) The courses are open to part-time candidates also if they are otherwise eligible under Institute’s

rules and the duration of studies for them will be of 6 semesters. The employees of NIT, Kurukshetra only shall be admitted as part-time candidates if sponsored by the Institute. Such part-time candidates shall pay only registration fee and continuation fee.

6. Admission:

Only those candidates who present themselves personally as per the counseling schedule along with the originals of all the documents will be considered for admission. Four Passport size photographs of 5 cm x 7cm will also be required at the time of admission. The admitted candidates will be required to deposit fees, securities as per Table 9 in the

form of bank draft(s) in favor of Director NIT Kurukshetra payable at Kurukshetra on

the spot at the time of admission, failing which admission will stand cancelled and

admission letter will not be issued. The seat will be considered as surrendered/ cancelled if

fee is not deposited up to 5.00 P.M. on the day of counseling. However, on the last day of

counseling (31st July), if any candidate does not deposit fee on the offer of seat, the

candidate loses any claim on the seat and the seat will be offered to the next eligible

candidate immediately.

Room charges may be Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 1800, Rs. 1600, Rs. 650 depending on single, double, triple or four seater room choice. • The merit list of candidates, called for counseling on 16th July and 19th July 2013 will be

available on Institute website www.nitkkr.ac.in. on 12th July and 15th July 2013

respectively. No separate letters will be issued for attending the counseling.

• Candidates who are absent on the date and time specified for counseling shall not be

considered for admission.

• Before accepting the admission, the candidate must also ensure that he/she fulfills the

minimum eligibility conditions as laid down by the Institute for admission to respective

course.

7. Scholarships

Scholarship shall be paid to the GATE qualified students only, as per institute rules. The present

terms and conditions are as follows:

(i) It is obligatory for every postgraduate student to undertake 8 to 10 hours (per week) of

work related to teaching and research activities assigned to him/ her by the Institute. This

could include tutorials, laboratory classes, development and maintenance of laboratories

assistance in research and development activities undertaken by faculty members,

maintenance and operation of computers and other central facilities assistance in library etc.

(ii) As per existing rules, the students must secure a first class (60%) equivalent grade

points during the first, second and third semester examination to become eligible for

continuance of scholarship during the second, third and fourth semester, respectively.

(iii) A student shall be required to give an undertaking to the effect that he/she would not

leave the course midway to appear in any competitive examination etc., not related to

engineering and technology in order to be eligible to receive this scholarship.

(iv) During the course of studies, the student shall not receive any emoluments, salary,

stipend, etc., from any other source.

(v) The student shall be entitled for leave for a maximum period of 30 days per year in

addition to general holidays but is not entitled to vacations, e.g., summer, winter, pooja etc.

(vi) The Government of India/Senate/BOS of the Institute may impose any other condition as

deemed necessary from time to time.

If the conditions mentioned above are not acceptable to a student, he/she will not be entitled to

scholarship.
