Water helps in carrying nutrientsthrough the blood of the mother tothe baby. Water helps in the prevention ofbladder infections, constipation andbleeding, which are very commonduring pregnancy. The more water one drinks the morewater one retains. Dehydration can trigger contractionand early labour. This should beprevented through adequate waterintake.

Water is life'

Can life exist without water? Water and life are closely linked.This has been recognized throughouthistory by civilizations and religions andis still the case with scientists today.Liquid water is required for life to start and for life to continue. No enzymeswork in the absence of water molecules.No other liquid can replace water.

We are very fortunate, therefore, thatour planet is so well endowed. Water is acommon material in the Universe, beingfound as widely dispersed gaseousmolecules and as amorphous ice in tinygrains and much larger asteroids, cometsand planets, but water needs particularlyprecise conditions to exist as a liquid as itdoes on Earth. It is most likely that thiswater arrived from multiple sources, suchas comets and asteroids, somewhat aftersolid planet Earth was formed. The development of life required thiswater. How exactly this was achieved, is aquestion that has interested many sincewell before the early experimentsproducing amino acids from simplermolecules by electric discharge in aqueoussystems. More recently, various theorieshave been propounded but without aconsensus except for the criticalinvolvement of liquid water.

Dyspeptic Pain A newly recognized emergency thirst signal

of the human body Dyspeptic pain is the most important signal for

the human body. It denotes dehydration. It is a

thirst signal of the body. It can occur in the very

young as well as in older people. Chronic and

persistently increasing dehydration is the root

cause of almost all currently encountered major

diseases of the human body.

Of the dyspeptic pains, those of gastritis,

duodenitis, and heartburn should be treated with an

increase in water intake alone. When there is

associated ulceration, attention to the daily diet to

enhance the rate of repair of the ulcer site becomes

necessary.

According to Professor Howard Spiroof Yale University, it is generallyunderstood that 12% of those withdyspepsia develop ulceration in theirduodenum after 6 yrs, 30% after 10 yrs,and 40% after 27 yrs It is the pain associated with thesedifferently classified conditions thatforces a person to consult a medicalpractitioner. Dr. Batmanghelidj, theauthor of "Your body's many cries forwater" book said he has treated withonly water well over 3,000 persons withdyspeptic pain. They all responded to anincrease in their water intake, and theirclinical problems associated with thepain disappeared. The report of his newway of treating dyspeptic pain withwater was published as the editorialarticle in the Journal of ClinicalGastroenterology in June 1983. At a certain threshold ofdehydration, when the body urgentlycalls for water, nothing else cansubstitute. No medication other than

water is effective. One of the manypatients he treated with water standsout and proves this fact. He was ayoung man in his 20s. He had sufferedfrom peptic ulcer disease for a numberof years before the crisis time when Dr.Batmanghelidj met him. He had had theusual diagnostic procedures performedon him and had received the label of"duodenum ulcer". He had been givenantacids cimetidine medications. Cimetidine is a form of very strongmedication that blocks the action ofhistamine on its "2nd" type receiverpoints, generally known as "receptors" inthe body, and, in this case, known ashistamine 2 or H2 receptor. Some cells inthe stomach that produce acid aresensitive to this medication. However,many, many other cells in the body thatdo not produce acid are also sensitive tothe blocking action of the medication.That is why this medication has manyside effects (including impotence inyoung men) and has proven extremely

dangerous in the chronically dehydratedolder age group. The first time Dr.B set eyes on theyoung man was at 11 p.m. one evening inthe summer of 1980. He was in such painthat he was almost semiconcious. He wasfolded in the fetal position on the floorof his room. He was groaning steadily,unaware of his environment and theworried people around him. When Dr.Btalked to him, he did not respond. He wasnot communicating with those aroundhim. Dr.B had to shake him to get aresponse. Dr.B asked him what the matterwas. He groaned, "My ulcer is killing me".Dr.B asked him how long he had had thepain. He said it had started at 1 p.m.,immediately after lunch. The pain hadincreased in intensity as time passed. Dr.Basked him what he had done to get relief.He replied that he had taken 3 tablets ofcimetidine and one whole bottle ofantacid. He indicated that he had hadabsolutely no relief, even with thisamount of medication, in the 10 hourssince his pain first started. Three Cimetidine tablets of 300 mgeach and one full bottle of antacid couldnot relieve the pain. Often, such caseswould end on the operating table of aknife-happy surgeon. Because of Dr.B'sextensive experience with the pain-relieving property of water in dyspepticpains, Dr.B gave this man two full glassesof water - one pint. After 15 min. later, his pain hadbecome less severe and his groans hadstopped. Dr.B gave him another full glassof water - half a pint. In a few minutes,his pain disappeared completely and hestarted taking notice of the peoplearound him.

For ten hours this man had sufferedfrom pain and had taken the mostpotent and advanced medicines for thetreatment of peptic ulcer disease,without any relief. Now, three glasses ofwater had produced total relief in about20 minutes.
