First Reading: Gen.2:4b-9, 15

A reading from the book of Genesis

God took the man and settled him in the garden

of Eden to cultivate and take care of it.

At the time when the Lord God made earth and

heaven there was as yet no wild bush on the

earth nor had any wild plant yet sprung up, for

the Lord God had not sent rain on the earth, nor

was there any man to till the soil. However, a

flood was rising from the earth and watering all

the surface of the soil. The Lord God fashioned

man of dust from the soil. Then he breathed

into his nostrils a breath of life, and thus man

became a living being.

The Lord God planted a garden in Eden which

is in the east, and there he put the man he had

fashioned. The Lord God caused to spring up

from the soil every kind of tree, enticing to

look at and good to eat, with the tree of life and

the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in

the middle of the garden. The Lord God took

the man and settled him in the garden of Eden

to cultivate and take care of it.

I will place my trust in your words.

Jesus was standing one day by the lake of

Gennesaret, with the crowd pressing round him

listening to the word of God, when he caught

sight of two boats close to the bank. The

fishermen had gone out of them and were

washing their nets. He got into one of the boats

it was Simons and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Then he sat down and

taught the crowds from the boat.

When he had finished speaking he said to

Simon Peter, Put out into deep water and pay out your nets for a catch. Master, Simon replied, we worked hard all night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I will pay out

the nets. And when they had done this they netted such a huge number of fish that their

nets began to tear, so they signaled to their

companions in the other boat to come and help

them; when these came, they filled the two

boats to sinking point.

When Simon Peter saw this he fell at the knees

of Jesus saying, Leave me Lord; I am a sinful man. For her and his companions were completely overcome by the catch they had

made; so also were James and John, sons of

Zebedee, who were Simons partners. But Jesus said to Simon, Do not be afraid; from now on it is men you will catch. Then, bringing their boats back to land, they left

everything and follow him.

ask God the Almighty Father to pour forth

grace continually into our hearts.

Spirit may conserve her in unity and reinforce

her in the faith.

The things confiding in you as a friend, a brother, a fatherthat will strike you and that way you will improve your life and enter upon

ways of prayer and of Love

The above words of the author have shown the

objective of The Way the first book of Saint Josemaria: to help the readers to live the filial

love towards God in their daily life.

The strength and the attraction of The Way are

largely due to the fact that it is based on the

real, living experiences of the author. They are

the notes of the young priest Josemaria Escriva

during the pastoral years among the workers

and the students of Madrid University

beginning in 1925 until when the book

appeared in 1934 under the title The Spiritual

Reflections (Consideraciones Espirituales in

Spanish). And when being published for the

2nd time, the book has been expanded and

received its definitive title as today: The Way

(Camino in Spanish).

Being a collection of the ideas to meditate, The

Way consist a deep and human spirituality,

leading the souls into a supernatural life among
