FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER Reflection in preparation for next weekend’s Gospel

We all face obstacles in life. Perhaps it' s a lost job, the death of a loved one, a sudden accident that places an unexpected dent in our finances. Sometimes the challenges are of our own making. Perhaps we've developed patterns of sin in our personal lives or our family relationships. We've all felt the jolting shock of, "This is all my fault." How do these things affect our relationship with God? Or, perhaps more poignantly, how do we now view God's relationship to us? In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus' words to us are encouraging ones. " No one can take them out of my hand." Did you catch that? In case you didn't, Jesus reemphasizes the point again a few verses later. "My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father's hand." God's grip of providential care and mercy is so strong that nothing can separate us. We might think things take us out of God's hand - life circumstances, tragedy, our lukewarm attitudes towards faith - but Jesus tells us otherwise. Nothing, no one, can take us out of the Father's hand, and we can't take ourselves out! We can't remove ourselves from Him, not entirely. Even when grievous sin hardens us to grace, His love is still sustaining us in existence. And His mercy is always awaiting our repentance. "My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish." This Sunday, let us heed the voice of the Good Shepherd. Whatever we feel might take us from God's hand, we can turn back to Him. God is always inviting us to follow Him and to trust in His care and be sustained by His hand.

Virgin Mary, on role of women

Mary's maternal heart, opens to all human misfortune, also reminds women that the

development of the feminine personality calls for a commitment to charity. More sensitive to the values of the heart, woman shows a high capacity for personal self-giving.

To all in our age who offer selfish models for affirming the feminine personality, the luminous and holy figure of the Lord's Mother shows how only by self-giving and self-forgetfulness towards others is it possible to attain authentic fulfilment of the divine plan for one's own life.

Mary's presence therefore encourages sentiments of mercy and solidarity in women for situations of human distress and arouses a desire to alleviate the pain of those who suffer: the poor, the sick and all in need of help.

In virtue of her special bond with Mary, woman has often in the course of history represented God's closeness to the expectations of goodness and tenderness of a humanity wounded by hatred and sin, by sowing in the world seeds of a civilization that can respond to violence with love.

de la siguiente semana "Mis ovejas escuchan mi voz; yo las conozco y ellas me siguen. Yo les doy la vida eterna y no perecerán jamás; nadie las arrebatará de mi mano. Me las ha dado mi Padre, y él es superior a todos, y nadie puede arrebatarlas de la mano del Padre. El Padre y yo somos uno." (Juan 10: 27-30). Así se describe el Buen Pastor a sí mismo. Cuida, proteja y acompaña. El escritor español Javier Prat Cambra describe al Buen Pastor de la siguiente forma: "Escuchar al pastor, y viceversa, entender al pastor, y viceversa, dejarse acompañar por el pastor y viceversa?la reciprocidad entre el pastor y su pueblo supone de una comunicación continua." Si, una comunicación continua y un discernimiento adecuado necesitan la sociedad de hoy en día. Vivimos llenos de falsas y engañosas noticias; la mentira se esparce como si fuera verdad. Las personas buscan afanosamente quien les de un consejo, una guía para encontrar la verdad. Pero la realidad es que solo Jesucristo es "...el camino, la verdad y la vida." (Juan 14:6). Nuestro Buen Pastor, nos cuida y protege; confiemos en Él al escuchar su Palabra; resta tan solo la fidelidad de parte de todo bautizado. Existe una urgencia de volver a nuestro Pastor que nos inspira luz, animo, y sobretodo, consuelo en el sufrimiento. ¿Qué respuesta daremos? Sea cual sea la respuesta, nunca olvidemos que en la Eucaristía tocamos la presencia del Pastor que se hace alimento para el camino. ¡Entréguenosle el corazón sin reservas! El corazón materno de María, que se abre a toda desgracia humana, también recuerda a las mujeres que el desarrollo de la personalidad femenina exige un compromiso con la caridad. Más sensible a los valores del corazón, la mujer muestra una alta capacidad de darse a sí misma. A todos en nuestra época, que ofrecen modelos egoístas para afirmar la personalidad femenina, la figura luminosa y sagrada de la madre del Señor demuestra que sólo mediante la autorrealización y el servicio hacia los demás es posible alcanzar el auténtico cumplimiento del designio divino para la propia vida. Por lo tanto, la presencia de María fomenta los sentimientos de misericordia y solidaridad en las mujeres por situaciones de angustia humana y despierta el deseo de aliviar el dolor de los que sufren: los pobres, los enfermos y todos los necesitados de ayuda. En virtud de su vínculo especial con María, la mujer ha representado a menudo en el curso de la historia la cercanía de Dios a las expectativas de bondad y ternura de una humanidad herida por el odio y el pecado, sembrando en el mundo las semillas de una civilización que puede

responder a la violencia con amor.

Religious Education Registration If you are a registered parishioner or live within Parish boundaries and your children attend public school, 2nd to 12th Grade, and Adults, please register them for Religious Education classes on June 3rd 2019. All students must be registered before June 15th, 2019 (until the class is full). If they have been attending this past year, you need to re-register. The Religious Education Office is open from 10:00am to 4:00pm Monday to Thursday.

Two-year program classes are offered for: Chil-dren from 7 to 14 years old. From 2nd grade to 6th grades) in English on Wednesday and in Spanish on Thursday from 4:15pm to 5:45pm or 6:15pm to 7:45pm. From 7th to 8th grades English and Spanish on Sunday from 9:00am to 11:30am.

Families with children in 9th through 12th grade (H-School) and adults who need the Sacraments are offered a 1 year program. (based on attendance).

Documents that you must bring to registration: · Birth certificate · Baptismal certificate · Information of a person in case of an

emergency. Name Phone # · You must be registered for the parish.

Please bring your envelop. · The total cost of the registration is

1 student $ 100.00 2 students $190.00 3 students $ 270.00 (must be brothers to receive the discount)

Note: the parish will not accept registrations if any of these requirements are missing. please remember the classes begin on August. ALL NON-REGISTERED OR RECENTLY REGIS-TERED (less than 2 months) FAMILIES WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RESERVE A SPOT FOR THEIR CHILDREN. THEY WILL BE ON A WAITING LIST.
