Population territory and boders
Population is about 9 millionTerritory is 86,6 thousand square kmBoders are Iran (765 km) , Turkey (15 km) on the south, Russia (390 km) on the north, Georgia (480 km) on the north-west and Armenia (1007 km) on the west
• The world's biggest lake –is in Azerbaijan Caspian Sea (area - 400000 km2; depth – 1025m).
• Flag The national flag of the Azerbaijan Republic consists of three equal strips. The upper strip is of blue color, the middle-of red, the lower is green. The blue strip designates the Turkish origin of the Azerbaijan Republic, the red color-its intention to create a modern state and develop the democracy, the green strip-its relation to the Islam civilization. In the middle of the red strip on both sides of the flag there is a white-color crescent and an eight-point star.
The National Emblem of the Azerbaijan Republic symbolizes the independence of Azerbaijan. The national emblem is the image of an oriental shield and a semicircle formed by the branches of an oak-tree and ears resting on it. The shield contains the image of a fire in the center of an eight-point star against a background of the colors of the National flag of Azerbaijan.

region in Azerbaijan celebrate this holiday on the 4th of November. Because this region is famous for its best pomegranates. They make tasty things from pomegranates.
Sport Sport in Azerbaijan has ancient roots, and even now, both traditional and modern sports are still practiced. Freestyle wrestling has been traditionally regarded as Azerbaijan's national sport, however today, the most popular sports in Azerbaijan are football and chess. Other popular sports are gymnastics, judo, futsal, weightlifting, boxing, and ice hockey. Azerbaijan's mountainous terrain provides great opportunities for the practice of sports like skiing and rock climbing. Water sports are practiced on the Caspian Sea and in inland waters. Competitively, Azerbaijan has been very successful at chess, weightlifting, and wrestling at the international level. Azerbaijan is also an active member of the international sports community
This year Azerbaijan was on the top of sport progress. Our country organized Baku 1st European Games on 12-28 June 2015.
Our Winners on European Games Baki 2015Azerbaijan is on the second place for its 21 gold medals among other countries.We have 15 silver and 20 bronze medals too. We have totally 56 medals on these games.
Music Instruments used in traditional Azeri music include the stringed instruments tar (skin faced lute), the kamancha (skin faced spike fiddle), the oud, originally barbat, and the saz (long necked lute); the double-reed wind instrument balaban, the frame drum ghaval, the cylindrical double faced drum nagara (davul), and the gosha nagara (pair of small kettle drums). Other instruments include thegarmon (small accordion), tutek (whistle flute), and daf (frame drum).
• Due to the cultural crossbreeding prevalent during the Ottoman Empire, the tutek has influenced various cultures in the Caucasus region, e.g. the duduks. The zurna and naghara duo is also popular in rural areas, and played at weddings and other local celebrations.
• Ashiqs are traveling singers who sing and play the saz, a form of lute. Their songs are semi-improvised around a common base. This art is one of the symbols of Azerbaijani culture and considered an emblem of national identity and the guardian ofAzerbaijani language, literature and music.
• Mugham is one of the many folk musical compositions from Azerbaijan,
