    1 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Our report is related to community development. Basically Community development

encompasses all aspects of helping a community and become a better place for people to

work and live. The report is consisting of two important parts. In first part we have selected

an organization which needs substantial amount of funds for their establishment, progress and

development. In second part we have made a list of organizations that possess ability to

provide funds to those organizations who are working for the sake of that part of community

which is disable, financially paralyze and mostly ignored by rest part of community. From

that list we have selected one organization to present our proposal.

The organization we have selected for donating fund is DEWA (Deaf Education Welfare

Academy) trust which was established in 1997. DEWA Trust is deeply concerned at

providing quality education to deaf and dumb children or people based on modern knowledge

with Islamic values and promoting the social culture harmony. Education is intellectual and

moral training as well as cognitive & spiritual development. By having education these deaf

and dumb people can be enable wholly or partially to earn their own livelihood. Beside some

problems, the trust is in need of funds for the maintenance and purchase of school vans for

    their students.

Doing deed for community development, we prepared a feasibility report to estimate the

funds required. Trust requires 0.28 million fund for repair and maintenance of vans and 3.9

million funds for the purchase of new school vans. We have selected LOA for the purpose of

raising fund as from several years LOA is contributing in various funding organization for the

sake of betterment and improvement of our society. We are hoping that LOA will help us in

    this noble cause.

Through this project and these types of deeds, many changes such as improved accessibility

technology and tools to help in daily living skills can be aided them in showing the world that

these deaf and dumb people can do the same things as anyone else. What was once perceived

as a challenge has become an opportunity to demonstrate how far the visually impaired have

advanced in today's society. Working on this report has made us capable to learn that

development of any organization is development of the whole society.

    2 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

    INTRODUCTION OF CONCERN FIELD

One hundred years ago, being visually impaired meant being condemned to a life of

confinement and institutionalization. It was almost unheard of that visually impaired people

undertake steps to become educated and employed. Often seen as helpless by society and as a

burden by the family, they could only dream of having a family and living an independent

    life.

As the years passed, many people have fought for their rights. They stubbornly stood up for

them so that today people like the deaf and dumb people and they have the chance to live an

independent life as freely as anyone else. The challenges of yesterday become the

    opportunities of today.

In the same way, our project is concern with and related to the field of Education of Special

Children. They are the part of our society. There are some institutions that are serving

special children. They provide educational and industrial training to adults and children with

hearing and sight disabilities .The schools for blind, deaf and dumb children that are working

for the welfare of blind, deaf and dumb by providing them free education. Those institutions

need funds to acquire resources to facilitate special children.

Teaching disabled children needs to create necessary conditions and services for them, supply

them with requisite equipment and make their learning process adequate to their strengths as

much as possible and effective at the same time is one of the primary destinations of special

    education.

All of us have different needs and require attention. Still, each of us deserves the best and we

all want our needs to be met and never overlooked. Disabled children are also an inseparable

part of our society. They are a vulnerable part and are not always ready to protect their

interests or fight for them. For this very reason we should take the responsibility to fight for

    them, to insure their welfare.

Now this is the time to make them enough strong so that they can fight for them for their

survival and for their rights. This can only be done when our society collectively work for

    CONCERN FIELD (EDUCATION)

    3 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

them to make them strong, to make them independent for their welfare, progress and

    development.

Disabled people must have the chances to take part in social life. Living and working

conditions s hould be improved for them. For this purpose large firms and NGOs are working

day and night. We can also play our role in this deed by doing some projects of community

    development.

    REASONS FOR SELECTING THIS FIELD

Our field is related to the education of deaf and dumb children which is the part of our

society. One of the most valuable achievements of humanity in recent years is the promotion

and development of education for disabled children. Disabled children have the chance tolearn in special education schools . Getting a good quality education is no longer a difficulty

or dream for them. But still in our society there is lack of acceptance for these people.

The main reason for choosing this field is that most of the people in our society are

indifferent to this part of population. They need consideration, respect, and equal rights as we

get in our daily life. We as a student, as the future of Pakistan want to change the concept

related to disable people. They all can be beneficial for the society through better education.

They can earn for them-self like other normal individuals of our society.

Through the establishment of institutions which provide benefits and have undoubtedly

accomplished much good organizations in instructing the young, and in teaching them useful

traits whereby they may be enabled wholly or partially to earn their own livelihood; but a

large number of the blind amongst the humbler classes are a burden on the parish or their

    friends.

We have the most inspiring example of HELEN KELLER s life. She was blind and deaf butshe had the power of knowledge .Due to this power she went on to become worlds famous

speaker and author. She had always a place in our mind as an advocate for people with

disabilities amid numerous other causes. She was a frequent contributor to magazines and

newspaper, writing most frequently on the blindness, deafness, socialism, social issues, and

on womens right. Her achievements in life has proven that the blind, deaf, and dumb can be

useful and become achiever like Helen Keller through education. So we want to attain some

attention towards this precious part of our society which is less considerable.

institution / fund / trust and no portion thereof shall be paid or transferred directly or

indirectly by way of profit, dividends bonus or otherwise to any of its members and their

    relatives.

    PROBLEMS OF DEWA TRUST

The common problem for all the social organizations is to do with the governance of

the organizations and the relations between board members and staff . These stemmed

largely from the boards inability or unwillingness to carry out their responsibilities of

governing the organizations. Board members often lacked the time or the expertise to

be able to carry out these responsibilities effectively. As a result, senior staffs are

often left to make policy decisions with little or no support from board members.

  • 8/13/2019 MN Dewa Ff Rubab Bordr

    8/15

    8 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Fund raising activities are often the source of much tension in organizations. The

strategies and images used to raise funds from the public are often felt to compromise

the nature of the work done by other members of staff. These images often depicted

beneficiaries as helpless victims in need of assistance, which other staff feel

inaccurate and lack respect for the beneficiaries.

The most commonly identified weaknesses of this sector include; limited financial

and management expertise, limited institutional capacity, low levels of self-

sustainability, isolation/lack of inter-organizational communication and coordination,

lack of understanding of the broader social or economic situation and scope.

DEWA trust can solve their funding problem by contacting to different trusts, NGOsand other persons who can give donations; but the demand of money is high because

of providing special and different facilities to the individual students of DEWA.

Keeping in view these problems and background of DEWA trust, we have decided to do a

community development project in DEWA trust. For the purpose of ease we have picked

only one problem to be work, so that the work may not lose its effectiveness. So, the problemover which we are going to do work has been discussed in the next part.

    FOCUSED PROBLEM

We have visited DEWA trust and after a detailed discussion with the management we came

to know that the most highlighted issues nowadays DEWA is facing are renovation of

building and maintenance of transportation vans.

As DEWA is providing education for special children so for the sake of their convenient it

provides transportation facilities for the students. Currently they have 8 vans but they want to

make it 10. We have witnessed the condition of vehicles. All the vehicles are outdated and

out of order as well. DEWA is also in need of fuel requirements as well.

After analyzing and comparing both the problems we decided to solve the transportation

problem of DEWA trust. This will definitely need substantial funding which we are trying to

accumulate with the help of well reputed organizations.

    PROPOSAL FOR FUNDS

DEWA has 8 vans that need repair and maintenance and DEWA also wants to purchase 2more vans. So we have decided to purchase a new van and a second hand van for the

Whenever Allah takes something from a person, He

gives something super special to that person

When we see blind, deaf, or dumb people we think that they have deficiency and they are not

capable of doing such things that a normal person can do, but this is not true. They are not

special because they are handicap; they are special because they are super smart. They

deserve to live a normal life like we do. They deserve to be educated like us. They deserve to

    get a job like us.

With reference to this project, our motive is to highlight the importance of education in the

life of special children. The institutes that are serving them deserve the financial and social

assistance of nation. We gave a brief introduction as well as problems faced by DEWA trust

in this report. The trust is in need of Rs 4.2 million funds for the maintenance and purchase of

school vans for their students and we are hoping that DAWLANCE will help us in this noble

    cause.

We all can play a part in the welfare of our society no matter how much we are capable to do.

We would summarize our whole effort in a quotation that is:

I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but
