"KENA VO" Jean Yves
On the 14th of August 1991, Jean Yves DIVERRES passed away after ashort and incurable illness. He was 52.
After passing his BTS diploma in electronics, he came to CGG-HMGC in 1966and started as a trainee in Alsace before taking part in numerous hydrologicaland civil engineering surveys in Iran, Morocco, Saudia Arabia, Côte d'Ivoireand Algeria. .
ln 1971, he was put in charge of the logging side of the GERS AR and UNDPsurveys in Libya, a country which he travelled length and breadth during theensuing ten years.1n 1981, he crossed the Eastern border and continued hishydrological investigation work in Egypt (electrical borehole measurementsand logging) unti11987.
After training in seismic reflection that year, he took over on-siteresponsibility for high resolution surveys in Switzerland and France.
From 1988-1989, he was responsible for electrical and seismic refractionsurveys in Morocco and Mauritania where his efficiency was rewarded with aletter of congratulations from the Nouakchott Hydraulics department ln 1990,he was given the task of developing hydrological activity and civilengineering in Kuwait.
Always keen to break new ground, Jean Yves was quick to make a small circleof friends (clients, prospectors, XL), who were charmed by his good humour, efficiency and enthusiasm. W ellliked by Arabs for his frankness, his energyand ... his love of football (he founded a football team in each country hevisited) and tennis (he would squeeze in a match between two trips down a coalmine - Lorraine - or two days of microgravimetry in Kuwait), he was due toretum to Kuwait after the Gu1fWar.
The personnel at LKN and the many who knew him at CGG have lost a goodfriend.

On the 8th of September 1991, Jean Yves LE BERRE died accidentally atthe age of 48.
A trained chemist, he specialized in mineralogy at the BRGM and successfullycompleted JUsdiploma in Mining (1967).
He joined the HMGC department in 1974 and was assigned to electrical andseismic refraction crews in France and Libya. From 1976 to 1982, he took partin numerous mining surveys in France, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Malaysia, interspersed with microgravimetric and logging surveys in France. Between1983 and 1985, he was data man for airbome surveys in France and headed agravimetric crew on oil surveys in Gabon and Saudi Arabia. He was a regularvisitor to these countries from 1986 onwards.
Assigned to high resolution seismic reflection surveys in France, Switzerlandand Spain (potassium), his alertness and small stature were appreciated whenoperating in coal workings 700 meters underground (in-seam seismic). ln1990, he lent his support to acquiring the 30000 microgravimetric points inKuwait and in just one month made good delays caused by others.
Always ready with criticism, he also had the stubbornness of a true Breton. Hewas fond of good food and wine, and his good-naturedness and heart of goldleft nobody indifferent. Honest and extremely stringent in his work - his fielddata sheets stand as a model of clarity - as weIl as careful and responsible withequipment entrusted to him, he expressed his originality in his love forstudying animais: Libya crews can still recall the owl and the 18 jerboas thatlived in the prospectors' trailer.
As one of the true characters on our Hydro and Mine crews, Jean Yves will besadly missed.
