Virtual VBS 2020 Monday, June 15th-Friday, June 19th, 2020
We are so grateful that we can continue to offer a wonderful week of games, Bible stories, crafts, sci-ence experiments, faith and fun! Although we will not be able to come together as a community in per-son, we are excited to offer a virtual version of VBS so all HT Kids can learn and worship this summer! What is Virtual VBS? We will be hosting live sessions from Holy Trinity daily from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. that will include praise and worship, experiments, and Bible Study. If you are unable to attend, videos will be created for you to view at your leisure. Your $50 per child registration will include a VBS t-shirt, Imagination Station experi-ments, Bible buddies and companion book, instructions for water games and themed snacks, and ac-cess to all VBS videos used during our virtual VBS, and SUPPORT THE PARISH! What if I can’t make the live stream? We understand that it might be difficult to plan our the month of June at the moment. The benefit of virtual VBS is that it can be done at any time! Register for virtual VBS and go through the days and activities when it fits your schedule, even if that is one day or week or later this summer! Who can participate? Children who will be entering preschool (3yrs.) thru 5th grade in the Fall may participate. We will need some help from Middle School and High School volunteers to assist with prepara-tions and filming online content. Please contact Erin Watson at [email protected] for more information. How do I register? All registration will be done online at our website: www.holytrinityladera.org/learn/vbs/Unfortunately we are unable to offer a cost reduction for families. As we are unable to attend Mass in community, this offertory is in need. Thank you for your continued support and generosity during this time! If this is truly a financial hardship and a scholarship is desired, please contact Erin Watson via email and we will do our best to accommodate.
Fifth Sunday of Easter Greater Than Jesus? Of all the promises Jesus made to his disciples, I sometimes find the one at the end of today's Gospel to be the most amazing of all. Jesus tells his disciples that they would do greater works than he did. What could be greater than walk-ing on water, curing a blind man, raising the dead, or feeding five thousand people with only a few loaves of bread? First, we have to ask what Jesus would think is greater. The apostles performed many miracles because of their faith in the Lord. They cured the sick, and Peter even brought a dead woman back to life (Acts 9:40). Paul resuscitates a young man after practically boring him to death (Acts 20:7-12). But even these signs are not greater than what Jesus did. No, Jesus meant greater in the sense of the true work of a disciple. When he sent the disciples out to cure the sick and cast out demons, his main purpose was to have them preach the Good News. Getting people to change their hearts and follow him was more important than impressing them with his miracles or amusing them with his parables. The disciples started right after Pentecost, when they re-ceived the power of the Holy Spirit. Peter went outside and began preaching to the people--not just any crowd, but those who called for Jesus to be crucified (Acts 2:14-41). The story ends with three thousand people getting baptized. I wonder if we have the same kind of trust in Jesus that the apostles had. Would we be able to speak to a large crowd of non-believers and get them to all be baptized? Maybe we have to start like the apostles did. They talked about their experience of finding the empty tomb. They prayed, they discussed what had hap-pened, and they looked for Jesus to appear to them. We can do those same things. We can talk about our faith with our families, in a par-ish discussion group, or helping with the RCIA. We can pray to be filled with the gifts of the Spirit and to see Jesus in other people. And we can look for God to act in our lives so that we can share God's love, which has been given to us, with those who do not know the Lord. Tom Schmidt, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
