MALAYSIA-JAPAN WORKSHOP ON RADIO TECHNOLOGY 2017
Malaysia-Japan Workshop on Radio Technology 2017 (MJWRT2017) was held on January 26-27, 2017 at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur
(UTMKL). This is the second workshop on Radio Technology between Malaysia and Japan. The MJWRT2017
is sponsored and organized by the Technical Committee on Antennas and Propagation of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE/AP), technically co-sponsored by the IEEE
AP/MTT/EMC Malaysia Chapter, and is held in cooperation with the IEEE AP-S Tokyo
Chapter. The workshop is intended to provide an international forum for the
exchange of information on the progress of
research and development in antennas, propagation, RF/microwave and radio
communication systems. It is also an important objective of this workshop to
enhance the friendship between Malaysian
and Japanese researchers.
SEMINAR: THE DEVELOPMENT OF NATURAL DISASTER PREVENTION AND RESPONSE
TECHNOLOGY & SYSTEM IN TAIWAN & JAPAN
A seminar on The Development of Natural Disaster Prevention and Response Technology & System in Taiwan & Japan was held on 20 January
at MOT Seminar Room, UTM Kuala Lumpur. The lecture was delivered by
Professor Chjeng-Lun Shieh, Director of Disaster Prevention Research Centre, National Cheng Kung University and Professor Kuniaki Miyamoto, a

REAL TECH SEED ACCELERATION
PROGRAM TECH PLANTER : CHANCE TO
PITCH YOUR BUSINESS IDEAS TO
JAPANESE CORPORATION
A sharing session on “Real Tech Seed Acceleration Program Tech Planter: Chance To Pitch
Your Business Ideas To Japanese Corporation” was
held on 23 February 2017 at Dewan Seminar, Menara Razak, UTM Kuala Lumpur. The session
organized by Leave A Nest in partner with Universiti of Malaya Center of Innovation & Commercialization
(UMCIC).
Tech Planter is a unique seed acceleration
program for deep technology based research teams or start-ups and they were looking for proposals for
Tech Plan Demo Day in Malaysia 2017. The focus of the project proposed should be on challenging
issues for humanity and related to Hardware,
Robotics, Biotech and Agricultural Technology.
On 28 February 2017, the MDRM students together with Prof. Dr. Masahiro Chigira of the
Disaster Prevention Research Center (DPRI), Kyoto
University and lecturer of MDRM, visited National Slope Hazard and Risk Mapping Center of Minerals
and Geoscience Department Malaysia (JMG) in Ipoh, Perak.
This visit was supported by Datuk Mior
Sallehhuddin bin Mior Jadid, Director General of
Minerals and Geoscience Department Malaysia. The meeting was chaired by Dato’ Mohd Za’im Bin
Abdul Wahab. the students were briefed on the functions of the Center, followed by a presentation on their ongoing project on Slope Hazard and Risk Mapping by Mr. Zamri Ramli and then on the National
Geospatial Terrain and Slope Information System (NaTSIS) by Dr
Mohamad Abd Manap and observed the data center. After the morning meeting, the group visited the Geological Museum
operated by JMG.
The program at JMG was followed by a field visit to the Gunung Pass and Cameron Highlands where actual slope failures and
preventive measures were seen and explained to the students. This
field trip was organized by Dr Khamarrul Azahari Razak, Senior Lecturer and course coordinator of the Geohazard Information for
Disaster Risk Assessment course. - MDRM Website

INTRODUCTION TO ROBOCUP @HOMEEDUCATION
On 25 February 2017, MJIIT Innokai organized Introduction to RoboCup @HomeEducation at MJIIT, UTM Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with The University
of Tokyo, RoboCup@Home, RoboCup Japan, RoboCup Junior International. The
program also supported by IEEE Robotics & Automation Society, Mathworks, NVIDIA and ROBOTIS.
The program is an educational initiative in RoboCup@Home that promotes
educational efforts to boost participation and service robot development. Currently there are 3 projects started in Japan under the initiative:
1. RoboCup@Home Education Challenge in RoboCup Japan Open
2. Development of an Open Source Educational Robot Platform for RoboCup@Home (service robot)
3. Outreach Programs (Domestic Workshops, international academic exchanges, etc).
The introduction delivered by Dr. Jeffrey Too Chuan Tan. The speaker is a Project Assistant Professor at University of Tokyo,
Japan and also a Visiting Associate Professor at Nankai University in China.
