About this book

This is the fifth sourcebook for Macross 2050. It contains information for theMardook Army as presented originally by Palladium Books as !ell as information to use

the Mardook in the Macross canon storyline. This book is purely optional for a Macross

2050 campaign and the "M is neither re#uired nor encouraged to use it.

PrefaceBefore the main book begins I must note that because Macross II !as produced

before Macross Plus Macross +ero Macross - or Macross rontier that it does notfollo! the storyline as outlined in the canon timeline. Thus Macross II has /2 fighters

instead of the standard /%-% or rather /25 !ould be the standard fighter by 2012 if

not something ne!er3. Also there is no mention of spiritia e4en though the Mardookmulators seem to use spiritia to moti4ate their +entraedi 6 Meltrandi forces in battle.

7ith these things said I !ill note no! that I !ill need to 8fudge9 things a little to get

them to fit although ma:or change suggestions !ill be detailed in chapter ,.Another big discrepancy !ith Macross II mecha;ships is they completely lack any

of the technology brought in from Macross Plus Macross - Macross +ero or Macross

rontier. This means there are no / scale PPB systems << acti4e stealth / spacefold boosters =M missiles > suits M? !eapons or the like. Technology that !ould be there by 2012 is simply missing. There@s also no sign of the massi4e earth defense grid

in orbit around the planet sho!n in Macross Plus3.

Macross II has a yet another discrepancy in that Ishtar constantly refers to the<?% Macross as their legendary <hip of Alus. ollo!ing Macross canon storyline !e

already kno! the <?% is a rebuilt Inspection Army gunship of Meltran design pointed

out in both Macross and Macross ?C3 so unless the Mardook are brought into thecanon storyline as another Protoculture offspring race see chapter ,3 there is no !ay the

<?% and Mardook can be related.

Dne more point is that Macross II has no mention of Protoculture or the origins of

the +entraedi. urthermore the origins of the Mardook are not detailed out or e4eneEplained only that they ha4e 8!andered the stars for millennia destroying all cultures

they encountered9. There is little official information about Macross II and its

background story.Macross II follo!s the canon storyline up until the end of the battle against the

Burado fleet in 20)- eEcluding information found in Macross +ero ho!e4er since that

information !as concealed for nearly 50 years it !ouldn@t cause too much trouble toinclude3.

Chapter 1 – Macross IIarth has had a long stretch of relati4ely peaceful eEistence !ith no ma:or !ars

occurring since 20)-. There are still occasional rogue +entraedi or Meltrandi fleets that

attack arth but rarely more than a couple doFen ships at a time. The last note!orthy

attack !as in 20G2 and al!ays the '( <pacy uses their 8Minmei Attack9 to discouragethe enemy through culture shock and then stops their attack.

=umanity has gro!n rather complacent and trusts the '( <pacy !holeheartedly

much like the '< trusting their go4ernment in the late 20th century3. =o!e4er there area fe! indi4iduals !ho belie4e that e4en '( <pacy has gro!n soft and laFy and that the

day !ill come !ith their Minmei strategy !ill no longer be effecti4e. <ome are e4en in

the '( <pacy.

?e4eloped in the late 20-0Ss as a replacement for the older "loria $lass

$ommand ships the =eracles $lass $ommand $ruiser !as designed to be to be a larger

more battle capable fleet lagship. The =eracles $lass !as designed !ith a large Main

"un as its primary for!ard !eapon. It also possesses numerous $on4erging Beam$annons Caser Turrets and Missile Turrets.

The first ship =eracles !as destroyed in 20G1 !hen it defolded in the front line

of the initial skirmish !ith the Mardook. =ea4ier than eEpected combat made the defold

location eEtremely dangerous. The =eracles defolded in the midst of concentrated laserfire and !as unable to erect a defense in time. The second ship Thetaclese !as in the

final phases of construction and !as hurried into ser4ice !ith se4eral systems inacti4e.

The Thetaclese !as destroyed !ith the rest of the BalduFai leet near the Mars ?efensi4e perimeter later in 2012. The third ship named the "ammaclese !as undergoing

construction at Asteroid Base 5. It sur4i4ed the Mardook attack and is currently

operating as a fleet flagship.

+loria Class Comman! Cruiser

The "loria $lass $ommand $ruiser !as designed shortly after the destruction of

the Burado <pace leet in 20)-. As the '.(. <pacy constructed more arth based spacecruisers they !anted ships capable of the fleet command functions that the large

+entraedi lagships contained. 'p until this time the '( <pacy fleets !ere usually

commanded by senior +entraedi $ommanders !hen in large fleets this !as due in part to

the eEcellent tactical skills the +entraedi commanders displayed in large fleetactions. arth constructed ships also did not contain the facilities for coordinating large

formations of ships in the heat of battle.$ommissioned in 20*G the "loria !as the first of a ne! breed of fleet command

ships. #uipped !ith large sensor and communications arrays the "loriaSs mission !as

to pro4ide $ommand and $ontrol capabilities to large fleets. $apable of commanding both arth and +entraedi;Meltrandi ships the "loria class allo!ed the creation of more

numerous arth leets.

Cor)ette

The cor4ette design has been hea4ily influenced by +entraedi ship design. The

cor4ette is not hea4ily armed although it does carry a series of phalanE missile turrets.

Escort Carrier

The escort carrier ser4es as the '( <pacy / carrier !ith most of the internal

space dedicated to hangers and pilots@ #uarters.

Macross Cannon

The Macross $annon is the '( <pacy 4ersion of a gunship being little more than

a hea4y particle beam cannon !ith engines a bridge and a fe! secondary !eapons fordefense. The Macross $annon is incapable of flight !ithin an atmosphere. 'nlike

pre4ious designs for hea4y particle beam cannons the Macross $annon splits the system

among four pylons. ?estruction of one or both 8arm9 pylons decreases the beam damage by half and loss of either shoulder pylons makes the !eapon unable to fire.

discharges from time to time but are no!here near full po!er %00K3. All but the main

Chapter , – The Mar!ook The Mardook stand out from the Protoculture in one ma:or aspect & !hile the both

use the +entraedi series as !eapons the Mardook take this further and implement the useof mind control to further impose their commands on the +entraedi and pre4ent them

from rebelling against their masters. The Mardook as a !hole ha4e a lifestyle based on

military structure.

The Mar!ook People

Cittle is truly kno!n about the Mardook. They make many references to theirhistory being completely filled !ith military campaigns and their lifestyle based on

destroying all other cultures. Based on this it makes sense that there are no Mardook

ci4iliansJ all Mardook are part of the military in some capacity. =o!e4er the Mardook

are not emotionally closed like their +entraedi soldiersJ they are fully capable of feeling

lo4e hate and ha4ing fun.In pre4ious sourcebooks there is indication of a lost city and emulator throne

deep !ithin Ingues@ mobile command base. If this information is accurate it !ouldindicate the Mardook !ere not al!ays as they are no! and once lead a relati4ely

 peaceful eEistence.

Mardook men ser4e as commanders soldiers intelligence officers andtechnicians. Mardook !omen are all emulators. The emulators function as a combination

of priestess historian and bard.

Hudging from the anime the male Mardook appear to outnumber the females byabout %00 to %. This brings up the #uestion of Mardook procreation !hether they

+entraedi soldiers. iguring from the lack of 4ariation in basic build they either usecloning or ha4e strong genofiEed physical traits that pre4ent aberrations in geneticstructure not unlike the +entraedi.

Among the Mardook pastel colors for hair seems to be common and it !as

remarked that such hair colors are not normally found on arth. Black hair !as seen onlyon Cady lensh and may ha4e been dyed as a mark of station. All Mardook ha4e

The destroyer forms the bulk of the Mardook fleet offering a good miE of

!eaponry and infantry.

.rea!nau%ht

The dreadnaught is one of the only ships in the Mardook fleet to ha4e no+entraedi onboard. It possesses upgraded space fold capability for #uickly reaching and

destroying 8contaminated9 4essels in the fleet.

8la%ship

The flagships are the most rare of the fleet !ith no more than one per 200

Mardook ships. lagships carry po!erful !eapons and a huge compliment of mecha.

These 4essels often lead planetary assaults. They possess superior medical facilities and bioscan chambers similar to the +entraedi (upetiet /ergnitFsbis flagship.

In%ues Mobile ase

The Ingues mobile base is similar to the CaplamiF and BodolFa mobile bases andhas all of the same systems and features.

The Ingues base has se4eral technologies not found on pre4ious command baseships. The base itself is a soundsensiti4e silicone based semiorganic ship not unlike

pre4ious models. It possesses a ship production bay of titanic proportions as !ell as the

emulator temple !here all emulators learn their role. 'nlike pre4ious models it has arapid 8healing9 system for #uickly sealing eEterior hull breaches.

cout Cruiser

'nlike other Mardook ships there are as many Mardook onboard a scout cruiseras there are +entran soldiers.

Mar!ook Technolo%#

mulator $hambers

Mardook capital ships house large chambers for their emulators. These chambersha4e special sensors to pick up amplify and transmit their song to all Mardook and

+entraedi ships and mecha !ithin range. The chambers also ha4e se4eral 4ie! screens so

the emulator can follo! the battle and ad:ust her songs as needed. ?ue to the methods of

constructing Mardook ships the emulator chambers are considered part of the basicstructure and ha4e no additional cost.

mulator TempleDnly found on the Ingues mobile base this is the root of the Mardook culture. All

emulator apprentices come here to train their 4oices as !ell as learning the role history

and songs of the Mardook. The temple also stores the collected cultural information ofthe Mardook and ingrains it into the emulators during their apprenticeship as !ell as

absorbing their feelings for their culture. It is so attuned to the emulators that only they

may enter the temple not e4en Ingues can enter safely although he can access the culture

database stored there from his throne room3.

Page 27: Macross 2050 RPG: Sourcebook 5 - Macross II

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/macross-2050-rpg-sourcebook-5-macross-ii 27/35

The temple also pro4ides a po!erful defense for the Ingues baseJ if three or more

emulators sing !ithin the temple it creates a harmonic resonance !ithin the base@s hull

so that any !eapons deri4ed from Protoculture technology !ill 8recogniFe9 the base andinflict only %Q of their normal damage. As seen in the anime the Macross fired it@s main

particle beam cannon 5000K damage3 and only left a minor dent in the hull 50K

damage3. The only !ay to o4ercome this defense is !ith o4er!helming firepo!er suchas the entire Mardook and +entraedi fleet combined3.

This resonance protection has a cost multiplier of E%.5.

Throne oom

The mobile base contains Ingues@ throne room from !hich he can !atch and

control his troops. It is not coincidence his throne room appears like the emulator

chambers. rom here he can feel any part of his ship and control any system he !ishes.=e may also seiFe control of any ship in his fleet from his throne room. The throne room

also contains four technoorganic ser4itors similar to pre4ious mobile bases.

mulator ThroneCong ago the Mardook !ere ruled by a pair of rulers one male and one female3.

The emulator throne likely possesses the same capabilities as Ingues@ throne room. DnlyIngues kno!s of its eEistence and has kept it empty for untold eons.

Cost Mardook $ity?eep in the bo!els of the Ingues mobile base is the lost city of the Mardook

dating back before they became a race of destroyers. The city itself is scherlikeJ the

base can generate gra4ity in any direction it needs to thus the city !as built in a chaotic

fashion !ith stairs in any direction and 4arious buildings being upside do!n to oneanother. Cike the emulator throne only Ingues kno!s the location of the city.

Tentacle <ealing <ystemThe Ingues mobile base possesses a rapid 8regeneration9 system for sealing hull

breaches. Tentacles eEtend out from the sides of the hole and rapidly eEpand into each

other to seal the hole then the regeneration slo!s as the internal structure rebuilds itself.7hen a hull breech is formed the tentacles !ill regenerate %0K per round until

half the damage inflicted is 8healed9 in order to create an eEternal seal o4er the breech.

After this the ship !ill regenerate 2K per hour until the damage is completely fiEed.

This system has a cost multiplier of E0.5.

<hip Production Bay

<hips in this bay start as an o4oid blob of rough siliconebased matter and slo!ly8gro!9 into their normal formation. Throughout their shaping the ships are entangled in

a thick !eb of technoorganic crystalline threads !hich transmit the 4ocal modulations

from the dedicated emulator chambers t!el4e chambers dedicated for this purpose3. Thiscauses any ship built by the base to 8recogniFe9 the base see mulator Temple abo4e3.

This also means that all Mardook ships are technoorganic like +entraedi ships.

Chapter 0 – The entran D MeltranThe +entraedi of Macross II are e4en more dangerous than those of the original

Macross story. In Macross many of the +entraedi !ere affected by Minmei@s song anddefected to the '( military@s side and helped defeat Boddole +er. =o!e4er in MacrossII the +entraedi are completely dominated !ith mind control making them far more

resistant to culture shock. urthermore any +entraedi ships that sho! signs of cultural

contamination are #uickly and efficiently destroyed to curb the spread of culture.Because of the reinforcing mind control it is not recommended that anyone play

+entraedi originating from the Mardook fleet. It is possible that players can ha4e full

blooded +entraedi !ho are Mardook sympathiFers. Also because of the mindcontrol

there is no chance that the +entraedi !ould redisco4er culture !hen !orking togetherand thus each ship contains both +entran and Meltran in miEed amounts.

Chapter 3 – Into MacrossThis entire chapter is mostly information that I ha4e made up as suggestion to get

the contents of this book to !ork !ith the canon storyline. Most of the mecha and capital

ships dra! information from the Macross storyline up to 20),.

Macross II 'pgradesIf the Macross II storyline is brought into the canon storyline the follo!ing

suggestions !ill update the mecha and ships to appropriate le4els.

/2HA and /2<< & Both !ould ha4e a PPB system and the holographiccockpit upgrades. The /HA !ould be used primarily !ith the '( Airforce and '(

(a4y on earth and colony !orlds. The /2<< !ould likely be used as a lo!er cost

fighter for colony !orlds !ith smaller budgets to !ork !ith or designed specifically for

the "alaEy Patrol or one particular colony !orld. Both !ould also likely use the >system.

/>* & The Metal <iren !ould of course ha4e the PPB and holographiccockpit. The M< !ould most likely also incorporate the inertial dampening system andacti4e stealth systems found on the /22 as !ell as the > system and #uite likely ha4e

any of the anti/a:ra M? upgrades. "i4en that this is supposed to be the elite of the

elite fighters it might ha4e the fold #uartF systems found on the 21 ?urandal.7here the /22 is designed for surgical strikes the />* !ould be used as an 8alpha

strike9 fighter.

?estroids & It !ould stand to reason that the upgraded destroid mecha !ould alsoha4e the PPB system and holographic cockpits.

Option 1 & un it mostly as it is. By the mid to late 20G0@s the /2HA and /2<< ha4e

replaced the current model the /%-% ne4er makes it as the mainline fighter3 as thestandard atmosphere and space fighters respecti4ely !ith the />* Metal <iren as the

elite unit. The ne!er models of the ?estroid series could be used mainly on earth as a last

line of ground defense. It could be interesting to see ho! the earth forces !ould hold out against the

Mardook !ith current / models /%-% /%1 /22< /B, /25 /2- /

21 etc3 rather than the ones in Macross II.Option 2 & Instead of attacking arth the Mardook attack one of the colony planets

perhaps den. Instead of the Macross being present '( <pacy sends the main fleet to aid

the colony and the outcome is similar.Option 3 & This is the one I like to use and it takes the most re!riting.

?uring the early stages of research and de4elopment of the 4il series +entraedithe Protoculture !anted to create a stronger 4ersion of their biological mobile fortress

class of +entraedi similar to Boddole +er and CaplamiF3. They created Ingues. Ingues ismore po!erful than the Boddole +er fortress he !as designed after but he is not a

Protode4iln more of a 8bridge9 of technology bet!een the standard +entraedi and the

4il series. It makes sense since the ulbtFsBerrentFs CaplamiF and <piral (ebulamobile bases are ha4e similar components such as the technoorganic construction.

Page 35: Macross 2050 RPG: Sourcebook 5 - Macross II

8/9/2019 Macross 2050 RPG: Sourcebook 5 - Macross II

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/macross-2050-rpg-sourcebook-5-macross-ii 35/35

The Protoculture then genetically altered yet another race early in their e4olution

to make them into the Mardook and left Ingues to !atch o4er them. D4er time Ingues@

genetic programming degraded and he !ent insane belie4ing that the Protocultureabandoned him actually they lost record of him during the !ars !ith the Inspection

Army3. Ingues started bolstering the Mardook people into a race of !arriors bent on

!iping out all other cultures in the galaEy. D4er the millennia Ingues e4entually forgotabout the Protoculture altogether. Ingues had the technology and ability to create the

basic +entraedi soldiers and began building them as an army de4eloping mind control to

keep them further in his control. The Mardook mulators slo!ly de4eloped their spiritia po!ers to influence and

moti4ate the +entraedi ho!e4er the Mardook as a !hole are una!are of the eEistence

spiritia or its full po!ers. (o! as far as the 8ship of the Alus9 it could be eEplained that

some!here in the Mardook@s history they !ere at !ar !ith the Inspection Army or arogue Meltrandi fleet. The Alus could ha4e been the identification of a particular ship

that gained a great amount of fame or infamyJ possibly the identification of the A<<%.

In the first part of Macross II the Mardook refer to arth as ha4ing a dangerous

culture based on the fact they had de4eloped music. This fits in !ell !ith the animaspiritia concept if the anima spiritia of the Protoculture also used song to focus their

spiritia po!ers.or the '( <pacy forces the /%-% remains the main 4ariable fighter or

!hate4er model is instated by the early 2010@s3. The /2HA and /2<< could be

presented as a lo!er cost fighter manufactured on a colony planet or e4en by the '(<pacy as 8filler9 and the />* !ould be a special ops fighter !ith a ne! designation

perhaps the />2G3. The upgraded ?estroids !ould most likely be distributed in much

the same manner and numbers as the original ?estroid series during <pace 7ar I.

EEegran replaces /rlit!hai Kridanik in 20G* as commander of the '( <pacy.Option 4 & Another possibility is that the Mardook are the remnants of the Protoculture

themsel4es. Perhaps Ingues has dominated the last of the Protoculture or originally !as

protecting them but slo!ly !ent insaneJ and the Protoculture;Mardook didn@t realiFe ituntil they !ere too late as if this ne4er happened before3. Ingues made the decision to

use mind control on his +entraedi forces to pre4ent them from rebelling as they did

against the Protoculture.Option 5  & This option is most likely going to be the most useful one. The entire storyline

for Macross II doesn@t need to be used. Perhaps your campaign !ill ne4er see the

Mardook fleet or the characters in this book. It is :ust as easy to ha4e the /2 series and

the ne! ?estroids be de4eloped on arth or one of the colony planets.
