ENERGYThe genesis of the group lies in the energy sector. We have successfully developed up to 1500 MW of thermal power projects in the last decade and exited. We continue to explore new energy projects for development in India and Africa. We are also into energy and demand side management.

WIND Malaxmi Wind Power owns 10.50 MW of wind power projects in the states of Rajasthan and Karnataka in India.

8.40 MW of wind power project with four wind turbine generators of 2.1 MW each in Jaisalmer District, Rajasthan were developed by Malaxmi. The project was commissioned in September 2010. The project has executed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Jodhpur Discom and is supplying power to the utility.

2.1 MW of wind power project in Bellary District, Karnataka was developed by Malaxmi. The project was commissioned in March 2011.The project has executed a PPA with Gulbarga Discom and is supplying power to the utility. The project is registered with Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA).

Both the projects are registered with United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

Malaxmi has strong project development and execution capabilities in thermal sector. In the last 10 years the group companies have been involved in development of thermal power projects up to 1500 MW as below:

1050 MW Coal Based Mega Thermal Power Project located in Meeramundali and Kharagprasad Villages, Dhenkanal District, Odisha.

270 MW Coal Based Thermal Power Project near Krishnapatnam Port in Nellore District, Andhra Pradesh. 

200 MW Gas fired power project in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh.

Our group company Virtual Energy Private Limited is involved in the development and supply of energy management products and solutions. Virtual Energy provides products and solutions by taking a holistic view of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficient products and Energy Conservation. The guiding philosophy of the company is every watt of energy saved is equal to at least 2 watts of energy produced.

Malaxmi corporate office in Hyderabad is a Platinum Rated LEED certified IGBC Green Building.

Our farming division operates through our affiliates and associate companies in various countries. Currently, Malaxmi and its affiliates manage over 1800 acres of farming land in India and Uganda. We grow a range of crops starting from seasonal row crops like corn and cotton to perennial fodders like Lucerne to long gestation forestry plantations of Pine. Malaxmi produces over 30 different kinds of agricultural products on its various farms. 

We believe that in order to be an effective farming organization, hands on experience is needed by the professionals who are managing the farms. Successful farmers are expert agronomists, meteorologists, engineers, economists and financial hedgers packed as one unit! Knowledge from each of these disciplines is necessary to maximize farm returns and operate a farm successfully. 

Our team members have been actively farming for over three decades with hands on experience in Asia and Africa and bring the knowledge and skills needed for successful farming. No wonder we have been managing successfully Uganda's largest Pineapple farm spread over 400 acres.

PRODUCTION

Malaxmi is a major shareholder in Tierra Seed Science Pvt. Ltd. Established in Jan 2012, Tierra is an agricultural technology company focused on developing seeds stacked with economically important traits that provide significant yield and cost advantage to farmers. Tierra is India's first exclusive seeds research and technology licensing company.

Tierra is a B2B company, it licenses its products and traits to independent seed companies who in turn market them to the farmers. Tierra has developed several disruptive products and traits in its focus crops of Cotton, Rice, Tomato, Corn and Castor.

Tierra's insect tolerance traits in Rice, disease tolerance traits in Tomato and high yield production system in cotton are set to change the existing production dynamics in the next 3 to 5 years.  

Malaxmi Agri has entered into seed distribution and marketing in 2015. Several new products in cotton, corn, rice, tomato, and other vegetables are being demonstrated to farmers across the country. Appointment of seed distributors and dealers and marketing activities under the brand name “MALAXMI” have been initiated.

Supply Chain Management and Marketing of Agri Products at Malaxmi are anchored in Farmpicks (India) Private Limited. Farmpicks serves over 40 customers including international food chains, modern format retailers, five star hotels, gourmet restaurants etc with supply of several English vegetables such as coloured peppers, coloured cabbages, broccoli, and lettuces etc. Farmpicks sources its produce under contract farming arrangement by providing technical knowhow and assured buyback guarantees with hundreds of farmers in Ooty, Nasik, Hyderabad, Mysore and Pune regions in India.

Considering the seasonality of agricultural produce, which in turn affects quality and price variability, agro processing industries strive for procuring the right raw material. We call them the PQRST Factors of Procurement. Right Price – Quality – Quantity – Source – Relationship – Time. We enable our customers to source the right quality and quantity at the right price and time continuously.  

We offer procurement solutions by facilitating backward integration of processors with farmers for secure and reliable raw material supply. We leverage on our in­depth knowledge of various commodities and the extensive backward linkages we have established with farmers to provide a highly cost­effective procurement system. 

AGRICULTURE INFRASTRUCTURE With the roots of the Malaxmi Group being in Infrastructure 

Development, Agriculture Infrastructure is a natural extension to our 

agribusiness activities.

We believe that a major source of competitiveness in agricultural value 

chains is access to affordable physical infrastructure. This includes 

infrastructure that supports on­farm production (e.g. irrigation, pre­ and 

post­harvest storage), ensures efficient trading and exchange (e.g., 

covered markets), adds value to the domestic economy (e.g. agro­

processing and packaging facilities), and enables produce to move 

rapidly and efficiently from farm­gate to processing facilities and on to 

wholesalers (bulk storage, refrigerated movement)

Malaxmi has started implementation of Mega Food Parks (MFP). MFPs 

are integrated food processing zones with backward and forward 

linkages that provide critical physical infrastructure support for food 

processing companies. MFP will typically provide post­harvest 

infrastructure, agro­processing facilities, quality assurance labs, 

warehousing, cold storages and distribution infrastructure along with 

industrial plots for food processing companies. 

Malaxmi has acquired 200 acres land for setting up a Mega Food Park 

in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh and is likely to start commercial 

operations soon. 

Further, Malaxmi is implementing development of an Agro Trade 

Centre (ATC) in Eluru, West Godavari District in Andhra Pradesh. The 

ATC will create infrastructure and house agriculture related businesses 

and facilities in three acres of land. The project is being developed as a 

PPP project with Government of Andhra Pradesh.

The Malaxmi Group has established The Cultural Centre of Vijayawada (CCV) at Vijayawada, with the objective of promoting art, culture and tradition of India

The CCV consists of three divisions­ Aakriti – The Art Gallery, Sahiti – The Literary Centre and Samskriti – The Cultural Centre

The CCV supports traditional art works like kondapalli toy making and takes pride in gifting kondapalli toys as Malaxmi corporate gifts

The CCV is into restoration of temples with archeological significance.

The CSR activities in Agriculture and Rural Development sectors are implemented through MARRC. It has successfully demonstrated over 40 new technologies to farmers in the past three years. 

At the 190 acre campus in Chintalapadu village near Vijayawada, MARRC trains farmers and demonstrates new farming and rural technologies. On the basis of our experience on demonstration of tools and technologies to farmers, we are setting up a display, training and innovation centre for mechanization tools and technologies. 

The primary objective of MARRC is to identify, collect, catalogue, evaluate, demonstrate and certify farm mechanization tools and technologies. 

Apart from making information on technologies and tools available to various stakeholders, MAARC will strive to provide a platform to innovate and develop new tools and technologies by creative, self­triggered, self­inspired people.
