ਸਾਕਤ ਨਰ ਸਹਤਗੁਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਤੇ ਬੇਮੁਖ ਹਹਰ ਭਰਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ਲੋਭ ਲਹਹਰ ਸੁਆਨ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਹਤ ਹਬਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਰੰਹਗ ਲਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥

The Sakat does not submit to the True Guru; the Lord makes the

non-believer wander in confusion.

The waves of greed are like packs of dogs. The poison of Maya sticks to the body-skeleton. ||7|| 1311

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਰਮਾ ॥ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਤੇ ਜਨਮਾ ॥ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮੂੜਾ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਹਖ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਮਨੁ ਰੂੜਾ ॥੩॥

These are the actions of the mind commits and this is the Dharma of the

Mind. This mind is born of the five elements.

This mind is Sakat, perverted and greedy. The Gurmukh chants Naam and the mind becomes beautiful. ||3||

Greed

ਪਰ ਹਰਨਾ ਲੋਭੁ ਝੂਠ ਹਨੰਦ ਇਵ ਹੀ ਕਰਤ ਗੁਦਾਰੀ ॥ਹਮਿਗ ਹਤਿਸਨਾ ਆਸ ਹਮਹਿਆ ਮੀਠੀ ਇਹ ਟੇਕ ਮਨਹਹ ਸਾਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਆਵਰਦਾ ਜਾਇ ਹਬਿਿਾਰੀ ॥ਜੈਸੇ ਕਾਗਦ ਕੇ ਭਾਰ ਮੂਸਾ ਟੂਹਕ ਗਵਾਵਤ ਕਾਹਮ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥Stealing the property of others, acting in greed, lying and slandering - in these ways, he passes his life. He

places his hopes in false mirages, believing them to be

sweet; this is the support he installs in his mind.||1||

The Sakat passes his life uselessly. He is like the mouse, gnawing away at the pile of paper, making it useless to the poor wretch. ||Pause||

SGGS Ang 681

No need for Greed everything is from our Karma.

ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦੀਜੈ ਕਾਹੂ ਲੋਗ ॥ਜੋ ਕਮਾਵਨੁ ਸੋਈ ਭੋਗ ॥ਆਪਨ ਕਰਮ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਬੰਧ ॥ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਵਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਧੰਧ ॥੧॥ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੀ ॥ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥Don't blame others, O people; as you plant, so shall you harvest.

By your actions, you have bound yourself. You come and go, entangled in Maya. ||1||Such is the understanding of the Saintly people. You shall be enlightened, through the Word of the Perfect Guru. ||1||Pause||

Ang 888

ਹਸਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥Siree Raag, First Mehl:

ਏਹੁ ਮਨੋ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਲੋਭੀਆ ਲੋਭੇ ਲਗਾ ਲ ਭਾਨੁ ॥ ਸਬਹਦ ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਕਤਾ ਦੁਰਮਹਤ ਆਵਨੁ ਜਾਨੁ ॥ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਜੇ ਹਮਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਣੀ ਹਨਧਾਨੁ ॥੧॥

This foolish mind is greedy; through greed, it becomes even

more attached to greed. The evil-minded Sakats are not attuned to the Shabad; they come and go in reincarnation. One who meets with the Holy True Guru finds the Treasure of Excellence. ||1||

ਸਾਕਤ ਹਸਉ ਮੁਹਖ ਜੋਹਰਐ ਅਧ ਵੀਚਹੁ ਟੂਟੈ ॥ਹਹਰ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਇਤ ਊਤਹਹ ਛੂਟੈ ॥੪॥॥੫॥੧੪॥੪੪॥

Friendship with the Sakat breaks down mid-way.

But whoever serves the humble servants of the Lord, is

emancipated here and hereafter. ||4||

Ang 811

Lets list the qualities of the Sakat:

ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਐਸੀ ਹੈ ਰੀਹਤ ॥ਜੋ ਹਕਛੁ ਕਰੈ ਸਗਲ ਹਬਪਰੀਹਤ ॥੨॥

Such is the lifestyle of the Sakat; everything they do is evil. ||2||

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੪ ॥ Shalok, Fourth Mehl:

ਸਾਕਤ ਜਾਇ ਹਨਵਹਹ ਗੁਰ ਆਗੈ ਮਹਨ ਖੋਟੇ ਕੂਹੜ ਕੂਹੜਆਰੇ ॥ਜਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਹੈ ਉਠਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ਬਹਹ ਜਾਹਹ ਘੁਸਹਰ ਬਗੁਲਾਰੇ॥ ਗੁਰਹਸਖਾ ਅੰਦਹਰ ਸਹਤਗੁਰੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਚੁਹਣ ਕਢੇ ਲਧੋਵਾਰੇ ॥ਓਇ ਅਗੈ ਹਪਛੈ ਬਹਹ ਮੁਹੁ ਛਪਾਇਹਨ ਨ ਰਲਨੀ ਖੋਟੇਆਰੇ॥ ਓਨਾ ਦਾ ਭਖੁ ਸੁ ਓਿੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਕੂੜੁ ਲਹਹਨ ਭੇਡਾਰੇ ॥ਜੇ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਨਰੁ ਖਾਵਾਈਐ ਲੋਚੀਐ ਹਬਖੁ ਕਢੈ ਮੁਹਖ ਉਗਲਾਰੇ ॥ ਹਹਰ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੇਤੀ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਓਇ ਮਾਰੇ ਹਸਰਜਣਹਾਰੇ ॥ਹਜਸ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਸੋਈ ਕਹਰ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥

The Sakats go and bow before the Guru, but their minds are corrupt and false, totally false. When the Guru says, "Rise up, my Siblings of Destiny", they sit down, crowded in like cranes.

The True Guru prevails among His GurSikhs; they pick out and expel the wanderers.

Sitting here and there, they hide their faces; being counterfeit, they cannot mix with the genuine.

There is no food for them there; the false go into the filth like sheep. If you try to feed the

Sakat, he will spit out poison from his mouth. O Lord, let me not be in the company of

the Sakat, who is cursed by the Creator Lord. This drama belongs to the Lord;

He performs it, and He watches over it. Servant Nanak cherishes the Naam, the

Name of the Lord. ||1||

SGGS Ang 312

ਮਨੁ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ॥

The mind of

the Sakat is

like a crazy

elephant.

ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਐਸਾ ਹੈ ਜੈਸੀ ਲਸਨ ਕੀ ਖਾਹਨ ॥ਕੋਨੇ ਬੈਠੇ ਖਾਈਐ ਪਰਗਟ ਹੋਇ ਹਨਦਾਹਨ ॥੧੭॥

Kabeer, the Sakat is like a piece of garlic. Even if you eat it sitting in a corner, it becomes obvious to everyone. ||17||

ਕਬੀਰ ਬੈਸਨਉ ਕੀ ਕੂਕਹਰ ਭਲੀਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥

Kabeer, even the dog of a devotee is good, while the mother of the Sakat is bad.

ਓਹ ਹਨਤ ਸੁਨੈ ਹਹਰ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਉਹ ਪਾਪ ਹਬਸਾਹਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੫੨॥

The dog hears the Praises of the Lord's Name, while the other is engaged in sin. ||52||

Ang 1367

ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਕਤ ਤੇ ਸੂਕਰ ਭਲਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਛਾ ਗਾਉ ॥ ਉਹੁ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਮਹਰ ਗਇਆ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਲੈਹੈ ਨਾਉ ॥੧੪੩॥

Kabeer, even a pig is better than the Sakat ; at least the pig keeps the village clean.

When the wretched, Sakat dies, no one even mentions his name. ||143||1372

ਹਜਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਹਬਨੁ ਪਾਣੀਐ ਹਤਉ ਸਾਕਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਹਪਆਸ ॥ਹਤਉ ਹਹਰ ਹਬਨੁ ਮਰੀਐ ਰੇ ਮਨਾ ਜੋ ਹਬਰਿਾ ਜਾਵੈ ਸਾਸੁ ॥੧॥ Like a fish without

water is the Sakat,

who dies of thirst.

So shall you die, O

mind, without the

Lord, as your

breath goes in

vain. ||1||

ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:

ਪੰਚ ਮਜਮੀ ਜੋ ਪੰਚਨ ਰਾਖੈ ॥ਹਮਹਿਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਨਤ ਉਹਠ ਭਾਖੈ ॥ਚਕਿ ਬਣਾਇ ਕਰੈ ਪਾਖੰਡ ॥ਝੁਹਰ ਝੁਹਰ ਪਚੈ ਜੈਸੇ ਹਤਿਅ ਰੰਡ ॥੧॥ ਹਹਰ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਹਬਨਾ ਸਭ ਝੂਠੁ ॥ਹਬਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਮੁਕਹਤ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹਹ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂਠੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ਸੋਈ ਕੁਚੀਲੁ ਕੁਦਰਹਤ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥ਲੀਹਪਐ ਿਾਇ ਨ ਸੁਹਚ ਹਹਰ ਮਾਨੈ ॥ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਬਾਹਰੁ ਹਨਤ ਧੋਵੈ ॥ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹਹ ਅਪਨੀ ਪਹਤ ਖੋਵੈ ॥੨॥ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਹਣ ਕਰੈ ਉਪਾਉ ॥ਕਬਹਹ ਨ ਘਾਲੈ ਸੀਧਾ ਪਾਉ ॥ਹਜਹਨ ਕੀਆ ਹਤਸੁ ਚੀਹਤ ਨ ਆਣੈ ॥ਕੂੜੀ ਕੂੜੀ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੩॥ਹਜਸ ਨੋ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥ਸਾਧਸੰਹਗ ਹੋਇ ਹਤਸੁ ਹਬਉਹਾਰੁ ॥ਹਹਰ ਨਾਮ ਭਗਹਤ ਹਸਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਤਸੁ ਜਨ ਨਹੀ ਭੰਗੁ ॥੪॥੪੦॥੫੩॥

One who harbors the five thieves, becomes the embodiment of these five. He gets up each day and tells lies. He applies ceremonial religious marks to his body, but practices hypocrisy. He wastes away in sadness and pain, like a lonely widow. ||1||

Without the Name of the Lord, everything is false. Without the Perfect Guru, liberation is not obtained. In the Court of the True Lord, the Sakat is plundered. ||1||Pause||

One who does not know the Lord's Creative Power is polluted. Ritualistically plastering one's kitchen square does not make it pure in the Eyes of the Lord. If a person is polluted within, he may wash himself everyday on the outside, but in the Court of the True Lord, he forfeits his honor. ||2||

He works for the sake of Maya, but he never places his feet on the right path. He never even remembers the One who created him. He speaks falsehood, only falsehood, with his mouth.||3||

That person, unto whom the Creator Lord shows Mercy, deals with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. One who lovingly worships the Lord's Name, says Nanak - no obstacles ever block his way. ||4||40||53||

Ang 1151

ਕਬੀਰ ਜਗ ਮਹਹ ਚੇਹਤਓ ਜਾਹਨ ਕੈ ਜਗ ਮਹਹ ਰਹਹਓ ਸਮਾਇ ॥ ਹਜਨ ਹਹਰ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਚੇਹਤਓ ਬਾਦਹਹ ਜਨਮੇਂ ਆਇ ॥੯੪॥ ਕਬੀਰ ਆਸਾ ਕਰੀਐ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਅਵਰੈ ਆਸ ਹਨਰਾਸ ॥ ਨਰਹਕ ਪਰਹਹ ਤੇ ਮਾਨਈ ਜੋ ਹਹਰ ਨਾਮ ਉਦਾਸ ॥੯੫॥ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਸਖ ਸਾਖਾ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਕੀਏ ਕੇਸੋ ਕੀਓ ਨ ਮੀਤੁ ॥ ਚਾਲੇ ਿੇ ਹਹਰ ਹਮਲਨ ਕਉ ਬੀਚੈ ਅਟਹਕਓ ਚੀਤੁ ॥੯੬॥ ਕਬੀਰ ਕਾਰਨੁ ਬਪੁਰਾ ਹਕਆ ਕਰੈ ਜਉ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਰੈ ਸਹਾਇ ॥ ਹਜਹ ਹਜਹ ਡਾਲੀ ਪਗੁ ਧਰਉ ਸੋਈ ਮੁਹਰ ਮੁਹਰ ਜਾਇ ॥੯੭॥ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਵਰਹ ਕਉ ਉਪਦੇਸਤੇ ਮੁਖ ਮੈ ਪਹਰ ਹੈ ਰੇਤੁ ॥ ਰਾਹਸ ਹਬਰਾਨੀ ਰਾਖਤੇ ਖਾਯਾ ਘਰ ਕਾ ਖੇਤੁ ॥੯੮॥ ਕਬੀਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਹਤ ਰਹਉ ਜਉ ਕੀ ਭੂਸੀ ਖਾਉ ॥ ਹੋਨਹਾਰੁ ਸੋ ਹੋਇਹੈ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਹਗ ਨ ਜਾਉ ॥੯੯॥ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੰਗਹਤ ਸਾਧ ਕੀ ਹਦਨ ਹਦਨ ਦੂਨਾ ਹੇਤੁ ॥ ਸਾਕਤ ਕਾਰੀ ਕਾਂਬਰੀ ਧੋਏ ਹੋਇ ਨ ਸੇਤੁ ॥੧੦੦॥ Kabeer, I contemplate the Lord in the world; I know that He is permeating the world. Those who do not contemplate the Name of the Lord - their birth into this world is useless. ||94|| Kabeer, place your hopes in the Lord; other hopes lead to despair.

Those who dissociate themselves from the Lord's Name - when they fall into hell, then they will appreciate its value. ||95||

Kabeer has made many students and disciples, but he has not made God his friend. He set out on a journey to meet the Lord, but his consciousness failed him half-way. ||96|| Kabeer, what can the poorcreature do, if the Lord does not give him assistance? Whatever branch he steps on breaks and collapses. ||97|| Kabeer, those who only preach to others - sand falls into their mouths. They keep their eyes on the property of others, while their own farm is being eaten up. ||98|| Kabeer, I will remain in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, even if I have only coarse bread to eat.

Whatever will be, will be. I will not associate with the Sakats. ||99||

Kabeer, in the Saadh Sangat, love for the Lord doubles day by day. The Sakat is like a black blanket, which does not become white by being washed. ||100||

Ang 1369

ਦੇਵਗੰਧਾਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥Dayv-Gandhaaree, Fifth Mehl:ਉਲਟੀ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਉਲਟੀ ਰੇ ॥ਸਾਕਤ ਹਸਉ ਕਹਰ ਉਲਟੀ ਰੇ ॥ਝੂਠੈ ਕੀ ਰੇ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰੀਹਤ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੇ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਹਗ ਨ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ਹਜਉ ਕਾਜਰ ਭਹਰ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਰਾਹਖਓ ਜੋ ਪੈਸੈ ਕਾਲੂਖੀ ਰੇ ॥ਦੂਰਹੁ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਭਾਹਗ ਗਇਓ ਹੈ ਹਜਸੁ ਗੁਰ ਹਮਹਲ ਛੁਟਕੀ ਹਤਿਕੁਟੀ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ਮਾਗਉ ਦਾਨੁ ਹਕਿਪਾਲ ਹਕਿਪਾ ਹਨਹਧ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਸਾਕਤ ਸੰਹਗ ਨ ਜੁਟਸੀ ਰੇ ॥ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਦਾਸ ਕੋ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੂੰ ਡੁ ਸਾਧ ਪਗਾ ਹੇਹਠ ਰੁਲਸੀ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੪॥੩੭॥Turn away, O my mind, turn away. Turn away from the Sakat.

False is the love of the false one; break the ties, O my mind, and your ties shall be broken. Break your ties with the Sakat. ||1||Pause|| One who enters a house filled with soot is blackened. Run far away from such people! One who meets the Guru escapes from the bondage of the three dispositions. ||1||

I beg this blessing of You, O Merciful Lord, ocean of mercy - please, don't bring me face to face with the Sakats. Make servant Nanak the slave of Your slave; let his head roll in the dust under the feet of the Holy. ||2||4||37||SGGS Ang 535
