Lab-13: Linear Antenna Array
I. Theory
1. Array Antenna (배열 안테나)
ㅇ 단일 안테나: 넓은 빔폭 (사방을 송신전력 방사). 수평방향으로 등방성인 패턴 구현시 적용
ㅇ 안테나 배열: 2개 이상의 동일한 안테나를 직선 또는 면 위에 배치하여 첨예한 빔폭 구현
ㅇ 안테나 배열의 용도: 레이더, 점대점 통신, 전파망원경
ㅇ Antenna array = array antenna (배열 안테나)
ㅇ 배열 안테나의 종류: 선형배열, 평면배열, 3차원 배열(곡면배열)
- 선형배열 안테나: 안테나 소자를 일직선 상에 배치
- 평면배열 안테나: 평면에 안테나 소자 배치
- 3차원 배열(곡면배열): 3차원 곡면에 안테나 소자 배치. Conformal antenna = 표면일체형
안테나
ㅇ 위상배열 안테나 (phased array antenna): 안테나 소자간 위상차를 전자적으로 제어하여
특정방향으로 안테나의 빔을 고속 스캔할 수 있는 안테나. 통신(스마트 안테나),
레이더(군용 탐지/추적 레이더)에 사용
- PESA (passive electronically scanned array): 각 소자에 전자적으로 제어되는 위상변위기를
설치하여 고속으로 빔 조향
- AESA (active electronically scanned array): 각 소자에 송수신기를 설치하여 고속 빔 조향,
다중빔 생성/제어
2. Linear Array Antenna (선형 배열 안테나)
ㅇ 일직선 상에 안테나 소자를 배치
ㅇ 선형배열은 배열 축에 수직인 평면 상에서는 등방성(omnidirectional) 방사패턴, 배열축을
포함하는 평면상에서는 첨예한(sharp) 방사패턴을 가진다.
ㅇ 접지판(반사판) 위에 선형배열 안테나를 설치하여 등방성 특성을 지향성(directional)으로
변환할 수 있다.
ㅇ 각 소자의 전류 크기와 위상을 조정하여 특정 방향으로 특정 각도에 따른 특성을 가지는
방사패턴을 구현할 수 있다.
ㅇ 소자전류 크기분포: amplitude taper
- 소자전류의 크기가 모두 같은 경우 부엽크기가 -13.3dB
- 부엽크기를 줄이기 위해 중앙소자의 전류는 크게 테두리 소자 전류는 작게 한다.

ㅇ 소자전류 위상: 소자전류간의 위상차를 균일하게하여 특정방향으로 주엽이 향하게 한다.
예: 1/2파장 간격, 소자간 위상차 (배열축에서 오른쪽으로 이동하면서 소자전류의 위상을 α
씩 증가)

패턴 곱 원리: 배열 안테나의 원거리 방사패턴은 방사소자 1개의 방사패턴에 배열인자
패턴함수를 곱한 것과 같다.

6. Phased Array Antenna (위상배열 안테나)

- 배열 안테나의 주빔을 특정방향으로 회전시키려면 평면파의 경로 차이에 의한 위상 차이
만큼 소자전류의 위상을 보상한다.
- 빔 스캔 위상각 공식

- 두 소자 간 위상차가 없을 경우: 배열축에 수직인 방향으로 방사전력 최대 (주빔)
이러한 배열을 'broadside array'라 한다.
- 두 소자 간 위상차가 있을 경우: 주빔이 배열축에 수직인 방향에서 좌 또는 우로 회전한다.
이러한 배열을 'scanned array'라 한다.
주빔이 배열축 방향인 경우를 'endfire array'라 한다.

7. Grating Lobes (격자엽)
- 배열 안테나에 있어서 소자간 간격이 과다하여 주빔(주엽, main lobe)이 추가적으로
발생하는데 추가적으로 발생하는 원하지 않는 주엽을 격자엽이라 한다.
- 격자엽이 발생하지 않을 조건 (선형배열 안테나)

II. Experiment
1. Array Element Design
Make a dipole and find its resonant frequency.
No PEC ground plane
Dipole center at (x, y, z) = (0, 0, 0) mm
Dipole arm in y direction
Dipole length = one arm's end-to-the other arm's end = L = 142mm
Dipole feed gap = g = 2mm
Dipole wire cross section: square, W x W = 2 x 2 mm
Find the far-field pattern at the resonant frequency.
Report:
1) 3D perspective view of the antenna structure
2) Plot R11 and X11 on a same graph.
3) Find the resonant frequency fr.
4) Gabs(realized) 3D perspective view at the resonant frequency.
2. Broadside Linear Array
A 12-element array uniformly spaced on the x axis.
Array geometry:
No ground plane
Dipole arm: y-directed
Element current amplitude: constant (= same for all the elements)
Frequency = fr obtained in 1.
First element at (x, y, z) = (0, 0, 0) mm
Beam scan angle = main beam at 90° from the positive x axis.
Find the maximum element spacing d for no part of the grating lobe appearing in the visible region.
Find the inter-element phase shift α.
Construct the array using CST Studio Array Module and find the far-field pattern at the resonant frequency
using d and α obtained in the above.
Report:
1) 3D perspective view of the antenna structure. Use the copy function in CST Studio to construct the
array structure.
2) Gabs(realized) 3D perspective view at the resonant frequency.

3. Scanned Linear Array
Repeat 2 for the main beam at 45° from the positive x axis.
4. Endfire Linear Array
Repeat 2 for the main beam at 0° from the positive x axis.
