La guerra del Vietnam, nella sua cosiddetta “fase americana”, terminata con la caduta di Saigon nel 1975, è stato un conflitto che ha segnato più generazioni, in America e nel mondo. Seguendo la falsariga della “Cronaca della Seconda Guerra Mondiale 1939-1945”, Alessandro Giorgi non si limita alla puntigliosa e dettagliata elencazione delle migliaia di operazioni militari giorno per giorno sulla terra, per mare e nei cieli, con reparti coinvolti, comandanti e bilancio delle perdite, né alle decisioni politiche delle parti contrapposte. C’è l’inquadramento internazionale del conflitto nel confronto globale USA-URSS, ci sono le notizie più “nascoste” ma significative e sorprendenti nel “melting pot” che era il Vietnam di allora. Da sottolineare il rilievo dato ai teatri di guerra “segreti” in Laos e Cambogia, il ruolo riportato in giusta luce sia dell’esercito sudvietnamita che degli alleati non americani: sudcoreani, australiani, neozelandesi, thailandesi. Parte integrante dell’opera sono le appendici con la massa di dati statistici sulle forze contrapposte e i rispettivi equipaggiamenti, le perdite materiali e umane, l’indice dei nomi, la bibliografi a, e infine un ordine di battaglia che, pur nella necessaria sintesi dovuta alla dimensione del testo, è quanto di più completo e aggiornato sia disponibile ad oggi sul tema, considerato che copre le forze armate di tutti i paesi belligeranti.
